When your Cable provider lets you down

Some serious bad news in my neck of the woods. My cable provider Mediacom is losing access to Fox as of December 1st. That means no 24, Family Guy, Bones, House, Prison Break, Simpsons, the OC, and Sunday afternoon football (+ playoffs) for me

Seems the whole thing hinges what Sinclair Broadcasting wants to charge Mediacom for some stations. The thing is I have my high speed internet and phone service wrapped up with Mediacom too. And I do like the price and service I get from Mediacom, but no Fox...

I could switch to satalite TV, which I have never been to impressed with. Argh! What's a guy to do... :?

That sucks man... you'll have to watch VHS's now or Lazer discs maybe. Even Beta max could burn some of your time.

Does DSM have a secondary cable provider? Some cities do, now, even Fort Collins if you are outside the city limits. Worth a look.

It's all well and nice if you can have a dish on a south-facing surface. I live in a first-floor, north-facing apartment.

I imagine this will work itself out. I hope it does by the playoffs anyways.

I have satellite. Beats hell out of Time Warner cable. DirecTV is actually terrific.

Move to a south-facing apartment!

No doubt there, when I lived in WI the only cable co. in my area was Time Warner, and I hated those fuckers!

G4 is on channel 366 and I have no problem anymore. The switched a ton of channels. 54 is now TLC, 73 doesn't exist, 105 is now Discovery Health, and some other channels changed too.

Considering they changed some regular cable channels to digital, I think they're preparing to take out regular cable, which has been discussed by Cox openly for a while now.

One thing I'm not understanding with the new Shaw Cable line up with the five or six HD-CTVs and four or five HD-Globals for different time zones, is how come I can't just watch them with a frigging HD ready cable box?? I refuse to believe that they're actually going to require an extra subscription payment to take advantage of the technology inherent in the more expensive box. We get free HD-CBC, HD-TSN and the American channels, so wtf?
