SUPERNATURAL -- The Brothers Winchester

Anybody want to get a discussion going on this show?

I have been watching since day one and I am totally hooked. I like the set up of the show with it many layers -- there is the long term arc of hunting the demon that killed their mother and then the weekly entity/bogeyman that they are hunting. I also love the relationship between the brothers -- each having their own approach to hunting and dealing with life. It leaves the show open to be funny, dramatic and overall believable.

Season one took a little time to find it's footing, but I think they have a nice mix of all the things I mentioned now. I love how each brother's character is developing. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are great in the roles. I also love Jeffrey Dean Morgan as their Dad.

I'll keep posting as season 2 moves along. I hope some other people join me.

A new episode airs tonight at 9 on the CW -- episode title:
"Crossroad Blues" - Sam and Dean try to help a musician who has sold his soul to the devil to become the greatest guitar player in the world. While doing this, Dean is seduced by a demon, who tries to convince him to trade his soul, for that of his father, who she claims did the same to save Dean, and is now suffering in hell for it.

It looks like a good one.

There's a supernatural thread here

i watch it from time to time, it's ok. i saw the one a week or two back with linda blair. kinda like x-files without the hot redhead... they even made a joke about which one was mulder and which one was scully.

Saw the first thread and it was old and included a now cancelled show, so I just started this one -- new season and all.

Checked out your other two threads and... I think we may have some differing opinions on who's who in the hot redhead dept. (although the second redhead has always had a special place in my heart -- via my stomach).

hope you guys check out the show tonight. I saw the Linda Blair one, too. I liked it, Linda did OK. I also liked the pea soup nod by Dean (Ackles) at the end of the show.

I just caught a comment on the essence of this show, I've never seen it before... but this comment made me think it might be watchable.

press junket wrote:because at the end of the day, the whole concept of the show is two brothers on the road with chainsaws in their trunk, battling things that go bump in the night.

Anyone been watching season 3?

I've enjoyed this show mostly since it started (In a guilty Pleasure kinda way) but this season seems to be a lot more adult than the previous two (okay thats only after two episodes). One thing the show has always lacked is proper gore/violence, its made me jump once or twice and a couple of times i've found things a little creepy but never have I enjoyed the gore before.

Suddenly we've got a girl possesed with Envy smashing someones face into a windscreen, a Demon Buffy girl stabbing Demons (and the poor people possessed by them) in the head through the bottom of the jaw no less and then in the second episode I got to witness one of the best Death by Circular Saw scenes I've ever seen.

Anyone else noticed the rise in quality?

Read an article that they are going to use Jason Voorhees this season. I believe it's supposed to pop up in the 10th episode.

So is it true that the actors who play the main brother on the show want out? What's the deal?

Did you only read the headline in EW? :-P The lead actors and the creator want next season to be the last because they feel they're shooting their wad now and to go beyond next season would risk the lameness of The X-Files's last few seasons. They want to go out on top. And the creator said he is definitely leaving after next season so if the show continues that's a very real risk.

Damn, it wasn't on last week either.

I fuckng love this show, started watching it last year and caught up with everything from season 1's finale onwards,it's a great fucking show and now that BSG has wrapped up it's possibly my second favourite program on air.

Bah!

What the hell is going on with the scheduling for this show? Are they trying to lose viewers?

As to the show ending next season, with the way events are building up in the current season, that seems about right, and it's always nice when the folks involved have the sense to go out while the show is still good.

Not that I wouldn't miss the show. The two main actors have really good chemistry with each other. Also, at the moment, I cannot think of a TV show that had a better soundtrack over the course of it's seasons.

I used my mojo to make the network air a repeat just to piss you off.

Fuck, I dunno! Why does 24 totally suck ass this season?

Supernatural is one of the most consistently good shows on air. I think there's only been one episode that I just thought was "okay."
It's always a lot of fun and can be creepier than any show on network television has any right to be when it wants to.

Aaaah. Nope. Nothing special is happening tonight. They just decided to show a rerun. I expect they want the finale to air on a specific date, so they're sprinking reruns in to hit the finale target date.

It'll be for the May Sweeps when advertising revenue is calculated for local businesses based on ratings. Pretty much every network show does something wilder or larger than usual in the months November, February and May so they time the reruns to let season finales and the like hit those months.

My monkey-flying DVR wasn't smart enough to twig onto the fact that my cable company moved the CW from channel 22 to channel 3, so last week's new episode didn't record. I managed to see it, though, and it was downright awesome. Dean's resentment was great, as was Sam's understanding and acceptance of what his father did and why. It's cool how their feelings towards their father have flip flopped.

Ixnay the anhammerbay talk.

Herc's working with us to get people over here, and even stated "remind me when the finale arrives and I will direct readers to
The Zone's Supernatural Sauna while I disable the talkback in my own."

That's certainly better than nothing.

Good to have more fans here. Loving it so far but not caught the latest episode yet. I think the Angels angle is a really ballsy move and I love how they've played it so far. The prophet episode was almost as good as Lost for "Holy shit, awesome!" value.

Hey everyone.

Not a great fan of the Zone, but not a great fan of the ban-hammer either. Biggest reason?
I only got into the show thanks the frequent talkbackers mentioning the show.

If the discussion can only be about the shit that Herc chooses to post, the show can't get a reputation by word of mouth.
And that fucking sucks.

No, he's just banning those who talk about Supernatural.

People have mentioned shows like Chuck or Breaking Bad or Mad Men, and haven't been banned.

Turk's case was pretty fucking bad, because he was talking about Heroes, had contributed many well thought out posts to the discussion, then mentioned Supernatural once and was banned for it.

I don't know if you can say it here, but Herc is a fucking giant c*** who has let power go to his head.

(I just found out that when you use the word c*** properly spelled out, the forum displays "gentleman". How messed up is that?)

We probably need a new one. Herc = Bruce "hammer-happy" Banner

Criticise Joss Whedon? That's a paddlin'.
Mentioning a show that Herc hates? That's a paddlin'.
Proving that Moriarty is a liar? Oh you better believe that's a paddlin'.

Thanks V'Shael, I'm glad someone else saw that I wasn't just trolling and was actually contributing to the discussion.

Anyway, moving on.

I'm guessing this week's episode is going to be a barn burner, as we're getting close to the season finale (how many eps are left in the season? Anyone know?). I never see the previews for the next week's episode, which is kind of a good thing I guess.

I'm kind of thinking that there will be something that will come out of all the blood that was spilled from Sam... it was weird how they kept focusing on it in the scene last week. I could be wrong though, and it will just mean that he has to do something to "recharge".

btw, anyone ever visited the Chud television forum's Supernatural discussion thread? It's got some cool people in there, one of the guys that contributes to the thread works on the show. No spoilers in there either (and if any light ones are posted, they are spoiler texted).

Three episodes left, new the next two weeks, off on the 14th (Smallville may have a two hour finale since it's airing that night.), and the finale's May 21. This week's episode is involving Castiel and from the preview something big is supposed to go down. I just hope whatever does go down doesn't jeopardize his return next year. I'm a little tired of them having to jettison supporting actors for budget reasons (Katie Cassidy) or kill characters off because Kripke wasn't happy with them (Bella). I think Jim Beaver (Bobby) is probably the only safe one. If Sam does fall to the "darkside" in season five, I imagine if Cas isn't partnering up with Dean in the Impala, Bobby will...which would be alright with me.

Oh, and turk, email Herc if you haven't already, I'm sure you could get your handle reinstated if you talk it out with him. If you're down with following the new push in moderation, I'm sure he'll be understanding. This is a win-win situation for the talkbacks and the zone. We have somewhere to discuss the shows that aren't spotlighted over there, while the zone gets some new blood and a bit more activity. We gotta get more to follow our lead, it'd be easier keeping the talkback community intact by moving to another section of the site than trying to regroup somewhere else. We just need make sure our peeps don't come over with bad attitudes.

The Zone's pretty swell from what I've seen, and once people see all that it has to offer, and the cool cats the frequent this corner of AICN, I'm sure they'll warm up to it quickly. I've got some stuff going down this week, but when I get a little more time, I'm gonna delve into this place a bit more myself, and it's good to know we've finally got an official place to talk some Supernatural each week. We probably should've came over earlier in the season though, heh.....we would've avoided some trouble.

So, despite the oddness of seemingly being relegated to a back room - (though, oftentimes the best stuff goes on in the back rooms) - I hope there can be some active Supernatural discussion here. Mainly because I only know about fangirl discussion forums, for the most part, and this show's fans are so weirdly divided into men and women...I'd like to hear some different perspectives. And I just like to talk about the show.

Cas probably is the only safe one as Misha is contracted to return as a series regular next year. Jim Beaver's also made some comments recently that lead us to think maybe he's going to get hit by the Supernatural's ever-vigilant guest star reaper.

So is there a spoiler policy here? They just have to be marked?

So...hi y'all.

Dang it, now I know why someone asked me if I was worried about Bobby. I usually stay away from spoilers and most interviews til after the season's up, and hadn't heard. It's definitely expected, but highly disappointing given he's such a great asset to the show. I would've liked a little more backstory to the character before he goes....if he does go. And if he does go, it'd be cool if they gave him one more ep next year where the boys find records of one of his old hunts where he teams up with Pamela.

Also welcome!

I like Bobby a lot, but feel his character has kind of been neglected as the show has gone on. He was much more proactive in the beginning, but now it seems like he's just a supernatural 411 service for whenever the brothers don't know what kind of creature they're up against.

Having said that, I really loved the scene from a few eps back where he spoke to the FBI agent while cooking some bacon.
