Hiro vs. Bauer

Postby TheBaxter on Mon Jan 22, 2007 2:32 pm

so, the tv networks, in their infinite wisdom, always want to schedule the most popular shows against each other. tonight 24 and Heroes are going head-to-head for the first time.

will sylar be able to suck away jack's Punky Power like all the other powers he's stolen? or will jack torture horned-rimmed glasses guy until he breaks and admits he's helping the terrorists?

will future hiro jump back in time to slice up a bunch of CTU agents with his katana sword and his captured T-Rex? or will Kim Bauer arrive in the nick of time with her trained cougar to save the day?

will chloe open a socket in the firewall and upload a new CTU protocol into mohinder's daddy's computer that will make all the heroes brains explode instantaneously? or will the multiple-personality web-porn chick's son use his techno-powers to infiltrate CTU's mainframe TRON-style and wreak havoc?

and which one will you be watching tonight?

There is nothing . . . NOTHING that keeps me from Jack Bauer.

Nothing sort of Armageddon will keep me from watching 24 every Monday.

just watched the first two episodes of the new season of 24 last night, i thought they were very good... Apparently heroes starts over here quite soon, i'll be keen to take a look... although it would have to go some way to make me choose it over 24...

Pevs, even if you're correct, nobody ever leaves a show right at the moment it jumps the shark. Being in denial is (sadly) America's national pastime! Wising up at the moment of truth is impossible! It has never been done in the history of television viewing. I'm sure the Happy Days episode after the Fonz did that waterski gag was just as high if not higher than the week before.

No! I refuse to leave Bauer behind! If he's jumped the shark, then I'm jumping that shark with him!

24 jumped the shark in Season Three, once the 83rd CTU mole was revealed and Nina showed up AGAIN.

Definetly 24, followed by watching Hiro's on DVR afterwards.

I've devoted 5 seasons to Jack Bauer as opposed to only 12 episodes to the Monster Squad over at Heroes, so you know where my loyalties lie.

I CAN'T LET JACK DOWN. Not after what he's done for me!

Bring on the JACK SACK!

I was thinking the same thing sort of... you can't condemn 24 for Jumping the Shark (an expression used way to liberally these days btw) THIS season... its a pretty formulaic show, and has been for about 3-4 seasons.

yeah, i agree that the whole "jumping the shark" has become overused, but what other term does one use to get across the same point??? and with a show as formulaic as 24 it was just a matter of time before they were going to have to resort to the shark.

Dang. I read the title wrong.

I thought this series was about Jack Bauer going back in time and fighting Emperor Hirohito.

I'd watch that though

It sucks for me. I picked the "DVR" option in the poll. But that begs the question, what do I do? Buffer both shows, watch one at 10, the other at 11 and then Studio 60 at Midnight? Cuz S60 definitely comes third. And I can't stand commercials, there's no way I'm watching either 24 or Heroes live.

Hmm... Terrorism followed by Comic Book Action followed by high-brow comedy? That sounds like the best way to do it.

Fuck, MOVE HEROES TO 8pm ALREADY!!!

DVR's are fancy and all but nothing beats the gamble that is a VCR. Thanks to this showdown, I will be using my tape recorder for the first time in almost 7 years! I'm taping over a copy of Star Trek: Generations to commemorate this occasion.

he'll be too busy moving the rabbit ears to get the best reception.

(as a side note, I recorded all 6 LOST episodes on my DVR with the full intent on rewatching them {once a week} during the hiatus. Long story short, I had some trouble with my cable reception, and Comcast "reset" my box, which deleted EVERYTHING! LOST, my series recording settings etc!)

looks like Bauer's Punky Power held off Hiro's samura sword last night... but they both got PWN3D by... Duckie and Lt. Topper Harley?

IMDb wrote:Fox's 24 took on NBC's new hit Heroes Monday night in the 9:00 p.m. hour and 24 came out ahead in the overnight ratings with a 9.9 rating and a 14 share. But Heroes was close behind with a 9.2/13, and the final figures could see a reversal in the standings. Moreover, Heroes appeared likely to edge out 24 among adults 18-49, the key demographic group so far as advertisers are concerned. In any event, the top-rated show at 9:00 Monday was neither Heroes nor 24 but CBS's Two and a Half Men, which posted a 10.2/14 in the first half of the hour. (It was followed at 9:30 by The New Adventures of Old Christine, which placed third with an 8.4/12.) The top-rated show of the night continued to be CBS's CSI:Miami, with a 12.5/20, well over twice the numbers for the returning Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on NBC, which placed second with a 5.3/8.

After three seasons I burnt out on 24, though I've peeked at every season until this one. It should have been a short-run series; now it's moved from the barely plausible into the utterly ridiculous. Also, I'm getting a little tired of it being a 44-minute weekly commercial for Bushism.

Heroes has some serious weaknesses, but it's trying harder. It probably will burn out as well.

WTF! Proof that old people and idiots shouldn't even be allowed to have TVs.

There is a large portion of our populace that likes to eat shit. Hence, you have Two and a Half Men.

YAY! IT'S MONDAY! FINALLY A REASON TO LIKE MONDAYS (besides Monday Night Football which is now over)!

24 + Heroes = Cow Love

With a little Studio 60 sprinkled for good measure!
