Dollhouse

HOLY SHIT!

Joss Whedon is writing a new series for Fox starring Elisha Dushku. It is called Dollhouse and Fox has ordered seven episodes.

Read about it here.

Holy hell am I excited.

"Dollhouse" follows a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission.

After each assignment -- which can be physical, romantic or even illegal -- the characters have their memories wiped clean, and are sent back to a lab (dubbed the "Dollhouse").

The show centers on Dushku's character, Echo, as she slowly begins to develop some self-awareness, which impacts her missions.

Whedon has already hammered out the basic outline for all seven episodes. Barring a strike, Fox hopes to have the show in production by spring, giving the network an opportunity to be so far ahead of schedule by fall that it could potentially air a full season uninterrupted by breaks.

Beyond Dushku's character, the show will also revolve around the people who run the mysterious "dollhouse" and two other "dolls," a man and woman who are friendly with Echo. Then there's the federal agent who has heard an urban myth about the dolls, and is trying to investigate their existence.

Whedon admitted there's a little dose of "The Matrix" in the plot -- "I do have that entire movie tattooed on my brain" -- and said "Dollhouse" will enable him and Dushku to explore some political and social issues.

Great news - seems like he likes a challenge, as the premise to me doesn't sound that great. But then, neither did 'Buffy, the Vampire Slayer'.

Awesome news. I'm well up for any Whedon.

I am really hoping that Whedon gets himself a crack writing staff like he has had on Buffy/Angel/Firely. Maybe some familiar faces will stop by to write an ep or two?

EDIT: HOLY SHIT GEEKASM GOING NUTS! Main site says Tim Minear is on board as well. Gosh this simply cant get here fast enough. I am so bloody happy its near impossible to contain.

I misread this title thread, and thought it referred to Will Wheaton...I just woke up. I am sitting here thinking, so fucking what?

Joss Whedon.

Not Will Wheaton.

Good. All is right in unikrunk's world again, except the sky is a troubling shade of beige.

It took a long time to build this world; I should have installed an escape hatch, but no, I was too busy fucking around with the wildlife...although, the monkey crested centaurs are pretty cool. Especially when I dress them up in Planet of the Apes jumpers.

Have I mentioned how sweet this is? Elisha told Kristin at E! that they are bringing in some Buffy writers.

All 7 episodes were pitched and accepted...if, for some reason, the strike didnt happen they would go into production in feb. But since the strike is happening (and Whedon 100 percet supports it) he has said that the moment the strike is over...production will begin 2-3 months after that.

At least I know the faults of JMS's stuff.

It's not as if everything Joss Whedon writes is perfection.

Apart from looking above-par, what's the big deal about Eliza Dushku? She is the same in everything. The supporting role in Buffy/Angel was fine as she wasn't around all the time. Give her a full role and you get Tru Calling.

Well Joss is 3 for 3 when it comes to creating quality TV shows...so I would say his track record is pretty, you know, perfect in that regard...so he gets the benefit of the doubt from me. And Tru Calling had shitty writing and a lame premise which is why it was awful. Dushku can hardly be blamed for that. I dont worship her or anything, but I liked her a lot as Faith and Joss seems to adore her. So, lets see what she does with a wide variety of moods/roles to play.

Is this just a mini-series, or is it 7-episodes with the possibility for more? What does this mean for Goners, Cabin in the Woods, etc?

Its a new series. Instead of just ordered a Pilot like with most series, Fox made an upfront commitment of 7 episodes to show Joss how much faith they had in the idea and in him.

Joss said in an interview that this all happened really fast and he just kind of went for it. He briefly mentioned that his dabbling in movies hasnt really gone as he would have liked and being back in TV was a good feeling.

check out E! Onlines Gossip with Kristin for a mini Q&A with the man himself.

i have no strong opinion on whedon. i liked firefly, didn't love it but liked it, and never watched an episode of buffy or any of its spinoffs. but this sounds like a pretty interesting idea, and something i'd give a watch.

oops,, i thought it was elisha cuthbert, not eliza dushku. can't keep them straight. my interest level has dropped approximately 0.7%
