Not a bad idea considering they've ruined tha Daleks and the Cybermen by religiously returning them at the end of every season.

Sea Devils will be a welcome return.

How about we see Kroll return...or more of the autons again.

I don't think they're ruined the Daleks. And the Cybermen have only been used in 2 stories so far. They will return for this Christmas' special though, in Victorian England. Looks excellent fun.

Sea Devils are going to be awesome.

Autons...it's looking likely, if my source is correct.

Kroll...don't hold your breath :-P

In the end, all we really want is the return of Sil, right?

I heard it on various Doctor Who forums first...several weeks ago.

If my source is correct...ie if some guy's rumour I read on a forum is correct:

Xmas 2008 - Cybermen and new companion
Easter 2009 - new companion + silurians or sea devils
Xmas 2009 - The return of the time lords, Galifrey, Daleks, Master, SLitheen

Actually, I quite liked that he gave who's in the possible future eps.

I'm liking the sound of the third one.

I really, REALLY hope that John Simm plays the Master again. As camp as he was, he was awesome, this time perhaps we can have him a little darker and set him up to be the puppeteer through season 5.

Papa, the only thing he got right about the Xmas 2009 special is the return of The Master...possibly. And as much as I'd love to see Simm return, I don't know how they'd be able to explain away his death.

Plus, there will be 4 specials, not 3.

Did I dream this, or didn't, at the end of Simm's last episode, a ladies hand with red nail polish pick up a ring or something with the faint sound of Simms laughing in the background? If true and not just another bloody 60s flashback for me, then they already laid the groundwork for Simm's return.

( When they advertised the episode with Rose and Donna the voice over referred to them as "the Doctor's greatest companions". Frankly, I call bullshit. But what do you think? Adric? McCrimmon? Jo ( my pick) Grant? )

Which brings me to an irritating point about the whole of Dr Who.
He wins battles against his enemies, but never the war. Thwart the Sontarans here, they wreck Havoc elsewhere and eventually return. Like the Daleks. The Cybermen. The Master. And each time these foes resurface, more people die. Then the Doctor fights them off ( but does not destroy them), rinse and repeat.

I believe it was greatly implied that the hand picking up the ring was Mrs Saxon. (it may have even been stated as such in the audio commentary) Meaning either the ring was like one of those fobwatches, or The Master transferred his conciousness in some way before he "died".

Which brings me to an irritating point about the whole of Dr Who.

It's woven into the fabric of Doctor Who that The Doctor never wants to wipe out entire races - he will stand up against enemies when they pose a threat, but won't ever go genocidal....even going as far as trying to save some of his enemies.

However...it does appear that the supposed end of "The Great Time War" involved him wiping out entire races & their planets, but that appeared to backfire on somewhat....but it is in his capacity when he's without a companion to reign him in.

I don't want to give the impression that I'm kvetching.
It just seems like teh Doctor's work load would be somewhat lighter if he won more wars than battles.
Of course The Doctor wouldn't ( regularly) indulge in the elimination of whole races,
which is not always a prerequisite for victory.
Just once i'd like to see the Doctor stroll into the Tardis, wiping his hands and saying
"that's the last we'll see of those toilet bugs.....and I'm not really, really very sorry about it".

I agree, it'd be advantageous if he followed through with his enemies a bit more.

But the apparent reason he doesn't is because he doesn't want to have to take part in wars....even though his life is really just one giant war...

Plus I think there were a couple of stories in the 70s which set up that winning wars and destroying races doesn't always have the desired consequences - like erasing the Daleks from history ends up causing more trouble than letting them live.

If you're going to fight, fight to win.
Not to tie.

He fights,
but to draws.

Meanwhile, people die.

Well, how quickly one forgets about the Family of Blood. I doubt, unless Moffat wants to bring them back for some odd reason, we'll see them again thanks to the Doctor "winning the war" with them.

It wasn't much of a war though, and the Doctor ended up giving them the immortality they sought....although with a twist.

And there's no guarentee they WONT be back.
The master was supposed to be completely out of regenerations back in the 70s.

Okay, fair enough, but that's once in four decades.
Statistically insignificant.
Today we've also got a Doctor who's using to Tardis to shag birds and a sonic screwdriver to help him take a piss.
Brave new world.

The BadAstronomer - Phil Plait - is going to attempt to stream his interview opportunity with the Who team from ComicCon.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2008/07/23/interview-with-steven-moffat-live/

I think it should happen, if he can get everything to work, in about eight hours time.

We can all cross fingers!

It'll probably be James Nesbitt *groans*

Naveen Andrews would make a cool timelord too.

Yeah, but he'd never be stupid enough to give up his Lost gig for Dr. Who

I hate to say it, but you're probably right about Nesbitt. Can't stand the guy either but Moff seems to like him.
