Yeah.

BTW, how come the kid in Merlin looks waaaay too much like the guy playing Sherlock?
WTF is Moffet doing, running his own cloning lab?

Just rewatched Silence in the Library. It has a heavier impact now, after having spent so much time in Series 5-6 with River and The Doctor. I wonder if we will, in time, see the moment River speaks about, how The Doctor shows up at her door, and they go cruising and all that jazz. And he cries.
I hope so.

Here's an interesting development - Helen Mirren has expressed an interest in playing The Doctor.
Thoughts?

To be honest, I was waiting for the Doctor to turn into Pitt the younger, Pitt the EVEN younger, Pitt the glit in the Milkmans eye.

The fact that Helen Mirren COULD play the Doctor is brilliant news. Typically always played by a gent, the fact that the Doc could be a woman is enough to make me laugh right now, but even more so, to be played by a stalwart of film and TV - a Bard, if you will!!!!

Helen would be brilliant as a quirky Doctor, not to mention dealing with a female figure. Id' always assumed they would go for a black Doctor soon (Idris Elba please?) but a female Doctor makes me quite giddy with glee.

The excitement factor just grew exponentially (or at least by 3  )

For those that aren't sure what the Vicar is talking about....THIS!!!!

And those who don't like the Huffington post...This!!!

Both papers, I wouldn't trust but still, if there's a glimmer of truth, that's awesome!!!

@ Papa

Just sent Helen Mirren an email, asking if these rumors from "not too reliable sources" about her wanting to be The Doctor were true. I'll let you all know what, if anything, is the reply. If she gets the gig, I SO want to be one of the new Doctor's companions. Helen is da bomb. Nuclear.

After a while I couldn't stand Rose, and the badly manufactured "romance" between her and The Doctor. It always felt forced and un-natural.
I hope they don't repeat that mistake.

I think Moffatt shares your aversion to a Doctor / Companion romance. He has squarely set that boundary between the Doctor and River. He was pretty quick to squash Amy's crush on the Doctor and really drive home Rory.

What I am really hoping for is to get a smart, almost nerdy companion. Maybe a scientist or something. Someone who is used to being the smartest person around and then the Doctor shows up. I mean, Martha was a medial doctor, but she never really filled that role as I envision it.

Anyway, I have learned not to judge. I mean, when they announced Matt and Karen people had the EXACT same concerns. "Too young of a Doctor and companion, this is going to turn into Twilight" and so on and so forth. And that isn't what we got. Personally, I have been a fan of most every change they have made, so they get my faith. Moreover, the new companion looks adorable so...

Other than Catherine Tate, has there been a female companion who wasn't at least cute? Why the fuck not? Who cares what the companion looks like? Give me someone interesting, and I don't care how attractive he/she is.

I'm of the mind that most of them have been cute AND interesting, more or less. But, to be fair, it is really difficult to make any character seem interesting when they stand so near to the Doctor. River was interesting because of her secrets, which seems to have backfired now that most of the secrets have been revealed. Captain Jack was interesting because of his bravado, which meant he had to spin-off to his own show in order to give him enough room to shine. All that said, I do believe they try and have, for the most part, succeeded in making me care about each companion.

Not that I'm massive Emmerdale fan, but I always thought she looked a bit like Christina Ricci.

That teaser thingy reminds me a lot of the Red Dwarf episode that parodied TNG's Holodeck.

But I can't imagine that is something we will see. Moffet has firmly established River has the love interest for the Doctor. And my guess he did that just to preemptively nix any potential Doctor/Companion nonsense.
