I remember when George Lopez was complaining that Carlos Mencia had stolen his jokes. I could only think to myself: "Why in the world would you take credit for originating jokes that bad?"

But, I guess there is a pride of ownership even when it comes to pure shit.

Lopez was vaguely funny in his first sitcom, AKA Pablo. Of course, it's easier to be funny when all the jokes are the highlights of your stand-up act.

did anyone see where leno tried to "spin" the whole thing and make it sound like he was going back to the tonight show because he had 175 people working for him and wanted to help them keep their jobs? yeah, right... the guy who wouldn't even pay his staff during the writer's strike until pressured into it by bad publicity cares SO MUCH for his staff that he'll sacrifice himself by going back to the job he didn't want to leave in the first place, JUST FOR THEM.

leno is chin-deep in bullshit... and considering the size of his chin, that's pretty damn deep.

I may be missing something (especially as I'm only following these Gawker recap pages) but...why didn't they simply move Leno to 11pm, in the half hour before Conan?

NBC affiliates air their local news at that time, and those newscasts are big revenue generators for the stations.

Yes. And traditionally the networks have programmed strong dramas at that time to ensure that viewership will carry over to the affiliate's late evening newscast. It's been an important part of the somewhat symbiotic nature between the networks & the affiliates. So that 11PM timeslot will always be relegated for late local news on the Big Three networks; if Conan does indeed get a new show on FOX, it may very well start at 11PM.

i'm glad conan was able to get a good severance package not just for himself but his staff as well. because conan really DOES care about the people who work for him, unlike some former-and-future-once-again late night hosts.

Here's hoping Conan does indeed go to FOX and wipes the floor with Leno. It'd also be great if Letterman was Conan's final guest, and then in early February (when he comes back with new episodes), Letterman has Conan on as his first guest.

And a "non-disparagment clause"? Really? To paraphrase David Cross, are Jeff Zucker and his mouthbreathing cohorts six year olds? Answer: yes. I surmise there are ways around that insipid "clause".

Well, with this stupid "clause", I assume the brain trust (insert sarcasm here) at NBC are hoping to stave off him badmouthing them in the press after he leaves NBC.

Now that this has been set in stone...I wonder what Conan will do until September?

I assume FOX would make him an offer, but if that isn't forthcoming maybe one of the cable networks would step in? Or how about some Internet broadcasts? Is he barred from THAT until September or only from network TV?

I would love a daily web broadcast from Conan until he gets his own show back!

Is Conan able to premiere a new show in September, or does he have to wait until September before he can even accept offers? If the latter is true, then of course he can still have off-the-record meetings with executives and plan stuff in secret (just like Letterman did before jumping ship, according to "The Late Shift") but if he can come out of the gate running as of Sept. 1, then he'd need to set ink to paper with Fox ASAP and spend the intervening months in development.

I've decided to quit watching 30 ROCK as a gesture of retribution for what NBC has done to Conan. I didn't watch last night's episode and I've removed it from the series recordings on my DVR. It hurts me more than it does them, but they need to learn that their actions carry consequences. Is it unfair that Tina Fey and her team should be punished for the wrongdoing of their superiors? Too bad. Vengeance isn't clean. The network has to pay a penance, and I've come to collect. I'll start watching again when Jeff Zucker is willing to sacrifice a thumb or an ear to atone for his crimes. And I believe that Dick Ebersol should forfeit his wicked tongue.

From the massive ovation at the beginning of the show....
To Tom Hanks......
To Neil Young (I'm not a fan, but he was good)...
To Conan's humble words of thanks that were classier and more heartfelt than anything Leno could have had written for himself.....

To the All-Star Freebird (Ben Harper, Beck, Billy Gibbons, Will Ferrell, and pregnant chick??) featuring Conan jamming out, too.....

Best Fucking Finale, Ever!!!

Conan could have said ANYTHING during his end speech, but the guy took the high road to the point that he left Earth's gravity.

See you in September, Coco.

Conan could have said ANYTHING during his end speech, but the guy took the high road to the point that he left Earth's gravity.

See you in September, Coco.

I was slightly teary eyed during the last show and also a little bit disappointed that Conan's Tonight Show ended with a music number, instead of a big explosion or something like that, but it was a great show.

Very sad show... I've watched Conan since he first started ( I use to stay up WAY fucking late on the weekends when I was a wee lad to catch MST3K syndicated runs at 3 am..) I would marvel at his original bits like The Streaker. I was there when Triumph debut to call Pauly Shore a Walking Pee Pee flap and offered Pauly to "hump his leg" Later on when Conan would do bits like "NEW STAMPS" (my favoirte 2 that stand out were Back Stabbing Seseme Street Charecter and Flightless Birds Taking Other Means of Transportation), Pimpbot 5000 and The Masturbating Bear, I would be on the floor laughing. When it was announced he would be moving to the Tonight Show.. I had my doubts. And while a good chunk of those doubts were qulled, others came to pass. Yes, the Conan I so dearly loved was toned down. Yes he did his best to get the Tonight Show to be his, and to gain acclaim, but it smelt horribly of network interferance. Honestly, I would of rather had him stay at 1230 and be who he was than do a watered down show. Thats why, even after all of this bull shit, Leno should of never have left the tonight show. Yeah, a lot of people think he's unfunny, yet somehow, for 15 years he was beating the supposed "BETTER MAN" in Letterman (who I NEVER found funny, and just to be some hackneyd Struggling Background Artist) and did the job he was suppose to do everynight. I liked Leno as a kid and enjoyed Leno to a degree as an adult. But with the advent of Cable TV taking a stranglehold the precious 18-36 male market (thank you Adult Swim) Late night TV isnt what it use to be.

I have a feeling than in another 15 years, Guys like Leno and Letterman will be obsolete. Conan getting out while the gettin's good is probably the best for him. My biggest wish for Conan is to either do a sketch show or write a half hour to hour fully scripted comedy non talk show. The man and his team have more potential than a constant Talk Show format. Yet, he'll probably go to Fox or FX and continue on. Good and all, but like I said, he's better than that.

A toast to you Mr O'Brian for an entertaining 17 years.

Thirded.

And I hadn't known that Conan could wail on the guitar! He's pretty good!

I replayed Conan's exit speech & Freebird for my wife today. I struggled to not get choked up even more the second time watching it.
His exit speech is just gut-wrenching. They way he takes the high road with NBC, the way he gets choked up talking about the fans, and then the way he demands the same fans to not be cynical about it.
And then he ends it with the shit-eating grin of an 8 year old boy on Christmas as he gets to play Freebird with his friends and some amazing musicians*.

I knew Conan played guitar as he's done it on the show in the past, but to my recollection he'd only strum chords. He really did surprise me with his soloing ability!! I don't think he'll be recording or touring anytime soon, but still I was impressed.

*Billy Gibbons seemed mildly annoyed that he had to cut his solo short for Will Ferrell's cowbell antics (I think he just forgot to break there with the rest of the band). Beck seemed lost most of the time, but that was amusing enough. Ben Harper fucking rocks. If you don't know this, find his material (live stuff is the best).

And the pregnant woman? She's Will Ferrell's real-life, really pregnant wife!!!

My wife looked at her during the performance, rolled her eyes and said "that's fake!" Hahahahaa!!

I have seen Ben Harper perform live, and yes he is a sort of god. I turned totally g@y for him after his performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
