True Blood (Now w/ 100% More e!)

The greatest TV in history is being made right now. The worst TV in history is being made right now.

I've done a little research about who/what the Admiral Cain character might be, seems she might be a Maenad (look it up on Wiki, if I link with spoiler code it still comes through the black) or possibly a Witch both of which are in the books.

It took me a while to work out - it's her from Cloverfield, Mean Girls and Freaks & Geeks (IMDB says she was in Smallville too). She's already a pretty interesting character, and often quite naked - haven't gotten to this weeks ep yet.

Mod Edit: Book and possible show spoilers. Highlight at your own risk! -Ribbons

It's not Terry. Unless Ball straws pretty far from the books, it is totally not Terry. If he keeps with the books, the next two episodes are going to need a lot more of the killers character shown other wise it's going to be "wait, why was he the killer?..." cause his character's backstory was never explained in the first ten episodes.

The naked lady, with the (assuming it was a boar, as was in the book) was mentioned in a previous post (spoiler tagged). She shows up at the very start of book 2 so it's nice that Ball is setting up the next storyline(s) for season 2 which has already been greenlit.

I'm up to book 3 atm, really love the series and books.

Like fuck. There's something else there. He's like a werewolf that didn't quite make it, that's why he got kicked out.

Poochwolf, doesn't quite cut the mustard.

Now with 100% more spoiler text...

Also try and give spoiler warnings for that kind of stuff in the future, Fanboy. The books aren't really common knowledge so a lot of people here who are fans of the show don't know what's going to happpen or might happen, and don't want to.

my bad, was trying to keep it non-spoilers (names and such). but yea the next two episodes need to reveal a lot for season 1 to end without some huge cliffhanger. i think they will, the pace has picked up quite a bit in the last 2-3 episodes.

I can't believe how much better this show seems to get every episode.

The Iraq vet definitely has "something" about him... and the "coming from an old family" line seemed really odd.

Well Terry is a "Bellefleur" (sp?), as are Arlene and the bald detective guy... when Mr. Vampire (I can't remember anyone's name right now for some reason) gave his Civil War speech he'd somehow "perked up" at hearing the name Bellefleur, so there could be something in store for us there.

But I still think the killer is Rene... never trust *too* nice a guy!

The big quiet mama's boy seems like too much of an obvious choice for the killer, but then again Ana Paquin had already read his mind earlier when the waitress was capped. Terry is #2 in terms of "obvious" choices, which is why I don't think it's him... the poor guy is just too fucked up about killing that he really comes across as a friendly dude. But Rene, with his nice cajun accent, I just don't trust the fucker.

Rene is on top of my list too. I think he first came to mind after the second or third episode where he was protecting Sookie "like a little sister". It also seems the writers always keep him around the fringes of every episode just to remind you he's there. As for a motive I'm not sure yet but I'm sure that'll become clear before the end of the season... I think.

what the fuck? ok they got rid of the Amy character, thank god. but the Maenad turns up to bail out Tara?!?!? That's a twist. They need to really kill of Sam, his character is a lot more anti-vampire in the show than the books, Sookie never recinds Bill's invite to her home, at least not for a long while.

Yeah. but Rene should have taken a big ol' steaming shit on her face before he left.

best episode of the season

a few things differ from what i expected but still good

bill never went out into the sun during the day to save sookie, as the attack from rene happened during the night, and she wound up in the hospital from the wounds

was glad to see them set up season 2's storyline with the last few minutes of this episode.

This was a very satisfying conclusion to True Blood's first season, despite the hokey elements and other warts that I find keep this show from being TRULY awesome. The season finale was surprisingly quite the tearjerker, especially since one of the show's weaknesses was, for lack of a better term, the absence of emotional resonance. They've definitely made up for that here, and I like the fact that the cliffhanger and other developments were not the main events of the episode. There was a lot going on, a lot of set up for the next season, and they took their time doing it throughout the episode, not just the last five minutes as seems to be the trend for many of these types of shows. I look forward to seeing more, summer '09.

Postby TheBaxter on Tue Nov 25, 2008 12:16 pm

i guess i'm in the minority here, but i for one found the finale underwhelming. i was surprised that the climax of the episode happened half way through. it seemed kind of like they rushed through it once we found out at the end of last episode that rene was the killer. and after that, the episode just lost momentum and meandered the rest of the way. to me it felt like they shot their load too soon and then made awkward pillow talk til the rest of the hour was up.

and i didn't care for a lot of the 2nd half precisely because of how obvious it was they were setting up season 2. it was hard to really get interested in all these new plot and character threads being introduced at the very end, knowing they won't go anywhere til next season. just made the end of the episode very tedious. and ending on the cliffhanger was lame. one of the things that always annoyed me at the beginning of the season was how every episode seemed to end with sookie finding a new dead person and screaming. thankfully they got away with that, but then they ended the season with, guess what? sookie finding another new dead person and screaming.

overall i liked the show, i liked the season, and i'll watch next season, but this finale didn't do it for me.

If anyones interested, the bit of swedish the head vamp threw out as he left Bills place was "Free at last."

A nice touch considering how effing annoying the new vamp seems. I hope she is annoying only to the characters, while entertaining to the viewers, or it could get pretty lame pretty quickly....

Bill killed LaFayette no? He said he had to feed to regain his strength and the way he moved towards Sookie's house was exactly like what we saw moving towards LaFayette, unless it was a different vampire.

Why would he 2 weeks later put the body in Andy's car then?

i have a feeling this is a bit of misdirection on their part. bill said he had to feed, but he can feed without killing, and it would be out of character for him to kill. i'm guessing it's a different vamp, maybe it's the girl he turned, maybe it's a new vamp we haven't met yet, or maybe it was admiral-ensign ro-cain in pig form. or maybe it's a vamp who found out about his V dealing.

also, not sure the body in the car is him either. that seems like the obvious choice, but it wouldn't be much of a cliffhanger if it was obvious. i'm thinking maybe it's whatzername's mom, the one who got the exorcism.

I'm thinking Lafeyette was attacked by some sort of an animal. He seemed to be looking down on whatever was about to attack him.

I could see lafayette being taken by the vamps, and probably interoggated about the V sales, but for the sake of the show, I dont think hes dead.
The toenail polish at the end could be a bit of misdirection, and it could be Tera's mother, via admiral Cain. Some fiendish development to further turn Tera to the dark side....

So im generally in agreement with Baxters surmising.

Highlight at your own risk:

Bill never did the sunlight stagger in book 1. So he didn't need to feed to heal so dramatically. Layfayette dies at the very beginning of book 2, found dead in Andy's car. There was no lead up to it, he's just found dead. No taking out the garbage behind the bar scene or anything (his character is actually very minor in the books). It's not Tara's mom (another incredibly minor character they put to the forefront of the show)

I won't say who kills Layfayette, but I will say the what/why; apparently there is an underbelly secret sex orgy club in Bon Temps and obviously, he's a member. Past that really reveals the rest of season 2.

Wow... I am a huge fan of this show. It's probably the best new genre show I've seen on TV since Lost. (No, I haven't watched BSG yet, and I'm waiting til the fucking show ends. I need to avoid every spoiler I can, and seeing commercials on SciFi is getting me annoyed!) And yes, that includes Fringe. While I like Fringe, I've managed to miss the last 4 episodes and not be too upset. This... this I devoured in two nights with the wife. We both love it, and can't wait for S2. I'm buying her all the novels for Christmas, but I'm worried we're going to ruin it for ourselves. I'm hoping the series spins off into its own world, much like Dexter did. I want to read the books and enjoy them, but I don't want to ruin the surprise of the show! Gah! PREDICAMENT!!!

Oh shoot! I shouldn't have read that spoiler.

Lafayette is one of the funnier characters on the show. They can't kill him. Who will make the g@y hamburgers at the bar then? They should kill Tara instead. She annoys me to no end.

New gallery of shots for the new season. Cant fecking wait.

Having seen these, I think I may have to revisit season 1 (at least before June when the new season airs, as Deadwood yet again is soaking up all of my free time which is almost nil at the moment).
...and so forth.

There was a True Blood panel at the Paley Center yesterday. Anyone know if there's any news on the web about what went down? I haven't been able to find anything on the interwebs yet and I'm dying to know!
