I decided to read the first book because a friend of mine has them all anyway. It was a really quick read, a little over 200 pages so small and fairly easy. Tara ins't in the first book at all. In fact it has Arlene as Sookie's best friend. No one is selling "v" and Lafayette is the one who is murdered and left in the police car.Other than that, it is fairly similar. There is still lots of sex but it is mostly implied... mostly.

BTW, I enjoyed the latest episode... The whole year absence of Sookie gave this season a lot of content to catch up with. I hear parts of it are supposed to be back on track with the book.

What a great ending. I like this Eric.
Bad ass Pam is back too, and I quote, "I will eat, fuck and kill every one of you." CLASSIC!

I'm a "late watcher" as I just stared watching this season becasue of all the hype it gets. It reminds me so much of the Larurell K Hamilton stuff out there. I used to dig her books with all the bloody and porny moments until the wereleopards and wererats and stuff started coming around. I guess this show isn't much different LOL

I'll give it a go, though. Not much else on in the summer.

Love the new Eric. His smile at the very last moment before the credits hit was possibly one of the best moments of this show for me.

Also loved Sookie reading a Charlaine Harris book while she waited for Eric to return home.....
Gotta assume it wasn't one of the series books...?

This season is very entertaining so far.

Yeah, when he's like, "sorry." LOL that was such a pure moment and made me laugh.

You know what creeped me out on the last episode? That chick raping the tied-up guy (Sookie's brother?) and the other chicks all licking their lips watching. Ewwww

Must have creeped me out even more. I was under the impression the ladies were waiting in line for their turn!

Also, VERY intrigued to see where the baby & doll storyline are going . . .

OK, so I've watched this show from the start, and at times I've enjoyed it a great deal, but at this point I'm on the precipice, nearly ready to give up, cut my losses and move on. If it were the Pam and Lafayette show guest starring Eric, I might stay, but really, what's to keep a faithful viewer on track at this point? Baby Vamp Jessica's blog probably isn't going to cut it. It better make a change for the better, like, in the next couple of episodes, or I'm gone. There's not even much skin anymore...

I agree with you Tapes.

It's just all got a bit too silly. All these other interested turning up make this show just ludicrous. They've made stories idiotic and the character have just got too comical.

I swear Bills got more colour in his face now than he ever did. Eric is a shadow of his former self and the whole faerie thing just sucks.

I'm teetering on the edge too as to whether to throw myself into True Blood ignorance or pulling back just to see where it goes.

I just went on vacation to the beach so I decided to read these books just to see how close the stories are. Well, the show has a lot of characters that the books don't even have, however, there are some story line similarities. There are also some big differences that will make some of the later books' plots not possible. For instance having Bill as King changes probably two or three plots from the later books. Some of them have a lot of sex, some of them don't BUT!!! There is a great Sookie and Eric shower scene in book 4 during his memory loss so let's just hope that they keep that part in the show.

It's getting good.

Wouldn't silver jail cells alone (w/ silver floors and no glamorable guards) have sufficed?

So Jessica is tempted by Jason just because he's ripped and USED to be a high school football star? Team Hoyt must be fuming. Assuming there's a team Hoyt somewhere . . .

Sookie and Eric aside, I thought this episode was an extremely powerful return to form. This season I've constantly had the same words in my head that Pam said in the Cemetery

"THIS IS SO FUCKING LAME!"

Sure a little more perseverance than previous seasons has been required but right now I like the look of where this could be heading.

I agree - but it's taken half a season or more for some payoff on these lame story lines, It's only just now shaping up and getting interesting. I like a 'slow burner' as much as anyone but in the case of True Blood, some of the melodramatic pacing and glacier-like pace has been mucho mucho lamero... and yet I still watch it. I think I just don't like the way the show is written.

Well, I can tell you guys that although the episodes don't follow the books exactly, each season has basically been similar to each book in the series. The pacing is somewhat the same. The first half of the book is storyline that builds, the second half has most of the action and conflict. Only difference is the book will not leave a cliffhanger, the season will.

Yeah. Serious bummer there.

- I didn't get the ending bit in the parking garage. Do we know who is in the ground there?
- Is Jason a werepanther now or not? If he is, the whole lack of him changing this season was weak.
- The wacky reverend is now a vampire. Great. Where's his wife?
- The almost anti-Authority revolution was over rather quickly!
