Star Wars TV Series (w/ 104% More Boba Fett! Confirmed!)

The greatest TV in history is being made right now. The worst TV in history is being made right now.

I'd guess the Fetts before the Hutts or the Solos.

I am loving the thought of this being on HBO though.

I love to think of this as an HBO Deadwood meets Sopranos but somehow I can't link that back to PG13.

I thought it was being sold as a sort of anthology series - each week has a new sexy and exciting adventure with a different character from the EU that only twelve people know about.

There is no Fett family anymore. It's just one guy.

I don't think people would tune in every week to relate to a bunch of disgusting slug-blobs. And, if I remember my SW novels correctly (they're not canon, I know), the Solos are basically a family of smugglers.

See, I remember the Solo tale to be that he was part of a respectable business family, he joined the Imperial Navy, and when he saw the treatment of Chewbacca, he went renegade, saved Chewie, got the fuck out of Dodge and was forever AWOL from the Empire.

Maybe I dreamed that one up.

Solo's history conflicts with itself in about 50 different ways in the EU.

They didn't address it in the movies. Nothing else is "canon", thus they can do whatever they want.

That's true, but I'm not gonna lie... Han Solo as the Space Prince of Crime just seems weak. Besides, the Solo clan as a story idea is just off to me... you'd never see Han, and everyone'd want to see him, so... meh. If they create a good show, great, if not, whatever. But the enthusiasm behind this newest bit of info is pretty cool.

Jabba the Hutt: Hoohoo mroonga Hands So Low, HOHOHO!

Therapist: This Han character seems to always be on your mind. You seem to be holding in a lot of rage, that could be a possible cause of your blackouts.

Jabba the Hutt: Himo himo slave outfit, HOHOHO.

Therapist: Your projection of me in a slave outfit speaks volumes about your repressed frustrations regarding women, particularly women in positions of power over you, that you'd want to see them finally subjected to your power.

Jabba the Hutt: Wanna wanna get laid, HOHOHO.

Sounds great!! :D

I've been seeing a lot of Shaak Ti in the images and trailers, I was assuming she was going to be in it a fair bit.

Lucas talks Clone Wars at ShoWest

I'm a little surprised this hasn't been reported on the mothersite...

Lucas offered a glimpse into the latest creation in his sci-fi universe at the theater-owners convention ShoWest on Thursday, showing a sequence from "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a computer-animated movie due in theaters August 15.

The computer-animated thingie has its own thread: http://zone.aintitcool.com/viewtopic.php?t=52718

That article talks about both projects though... and yes, extremely strange that AICN has not spoken of the preview footage. They're either lazy/careless or have been sworn to secrecy.

I'm opting for lazy/careless...

My guess is that the AICN 'staff' wasn't invited to ShoWest. But I'm still shocked that even the story of preview footage got no play on AICN.

Well Capone's at ShoWest at least, but it's very possible that AICN was excluded from that preview screening.

Quint DEFINITELY did not like ShoWest last year.

Here's the first part of the story for you.

Quint wrote:Ahoy, squirts! Quint here, having narrowly gained access to the opening remarks at ShoWest, featuring Jerry Bruckheimer and Brad Bird.

The ShoWest people (read Rogers & Cowen) told me I could definitely not attend, but I went to the door anyway, hoping maybe they were wrong. They weren't. I was turned away, but I luckily bumped into a mysterious beauty who gave me a blue slip to gain entrance, something that should have been more than enough to get in just by itself. Once again, I went to the door and once again I was told I couldn't go in.

I ended up standing with Robert Sanchez of IESB and we talked about how much we dislike ShoWest. I will not come back next year.

The footage is always good, but they don't want us here, plain and simple. Which is fine. This is for theater owners. I get that, but when the studios ask people like Robert and myself to come out and cover their presentations and ShoWest has a press center, but they deny us access to anything... what's the point? The studio people are always nice, but helpless and the ShoWest people are always rude and unhelpful. Needless to say, it gets a little frustrating and I'm quickly learning it's not worth the hassle.

Looking at the pictures of Daniel Logan here, he's really growing up to look like both the actor that played the young adult clones and Temuera Morrison.

Could be a good fit for the television show if they go that route.

Casting Has Begun

They set the bar pretty high with the animated series which reminded some people of how cool Star Wars can be.

That MTV link seems to be suggesting it's about the Rebel Alliance.

Yet everyone from Lucasfilm who've spoken about it so far have implied it'll be more about standalone adventures with new, or lesser known, characters.

Surely a show about the formation of the Rebel Alliance isn't much of an interesting concept - people get together, form alliance, rebel against Empire: as we've already seen in the OT.

Yeah and the alternative, next to watching the whole SW universe taking a dump is to make the show about the Jedi, and not as this article says, about it not even showing them!

But that again would be... Jedis hide, Jedis get caught, Jedis get killed. As we've already seen in the OT/Ben Kenobi story from SW4 timecode, 22:52:18

George can I ask you something? Don't your kids ever get bored of you telling the same ol' bedtime story over again and again? Oh I forgot, they stopped listening - 'cos you're a CUπT!!!!!!

Stories about life under the Empire could be interesting. Tales of ordinary people dealing with living under the oppression of a totalitarian galactic ruler...but with laser-guns and spaceships.

Dude, I'd rather go and watch the sci-fi porn TV series that i was thinking of writing. Lots of Alien rape. Seriously. Pour the money, time and effort into something new, guys. If it's about the money earned - George - you have ENOUGH MONEY!!!! We'll give you a farking fiver if you do something NEW!! Don't do SW again. Make something as EQUIVALENTLY exciting as SW was when it first came out!

The last official report was they were looking for writers. I would guess that there won't be anything else to report until they have scripts and start casting. Lucas said he wants the whole season written before they start shooting so it may be a while.

I think the crawl is a totally wrong idea. it'll take too long for a start an would be rather boring after a time and it's unnecessary anyway, as the WW2 style news speak is faster and gets to the point and I reckon a lot of the intro stories can be done in a rather short amount of explanation.

I think this crawl that you are all saying is a case of 'you think you want it but you don't'.

There'll be no words on screen mark my words.

They should have opening credits that show a montage of the planet they'll feature in that episode, and set it to some modern urban jazz.

I think they should keep the jazz music, but interpret the opening credits through the power of dance.

It would also cause several thousand "hardcore" Star Wars and Star Trek fans to spontaneously haemorrhage and collapse.

It may be worth doing after all!

A more constricted budget hopefully meaning less CG effects or reliance on them.

It actually does give me a bit of hope. I know it's a cliche to say it, but the further away this will be than the prequels, the more I see the magic of Star Wars coming back.

What gave me the most despair in ever wanting another SW film was that no matter how good everything else might be, the animated 2D feeling to everything would always reduce the films from feeling physically and live action real, so I'd be watching just an advanced cartoon or animation, CG or otherwise.

If a small budget with the series means more practical, fuck it, more REAL stuff, then I may just be waking up to this for once.

Talk of more dialogue or more personal dramas going on as well of course as more Fetty stuff, then all the joy of what made Star Wars great is all coming back to life again for me. I already sense that feeling of the original film, the vintage charm, coming back.

--- I still however think it's got that 'Let's make a new Star Trek!!' feel to it though... a rehash idea that we don't really need to see or information we don't really need to know being swamped at us. Jedis and many good guys - die. Rebels are formed. OK. Don't NEED to see it. Spend the money on something more original or revelationary on something we don't already know or have seen about.
