Blah blah blaaah Aliens are invading humans are panicking there's a token CGI wide angle shot of a spaceship which a kid could do with a ZX81 computer even slapping a Spielberg name all over it don't change the fact that it looks shit just reinforces his decline into unexceptionability these days.

In spite of alien invasions being beaten into the ground, I'll check it out. I guess it helps that I haven't seen anything involving aliens since District 9. No V, no Skyline, nothing. No time to watch anything, I tells ya' . . .

And does anybody really get excited when Speilberg's name gets slapped on something anymore ?

couple of posters/key art

I have no strong feelings one way or the other for this. Noah Wyle will always and forever be Dr Carter to me, so seeing him as a resistance fighter/bad ass doesn't compute.
I might give this a look when it airs.

that and the shoddy composites on the poster art are really hurting this thing's cred.

Just like THE WALKING DEAD, this show will premier on German Pay TV only 5 days after its US premiere. Which is cool. I hope this becomes a standard.

This just screams cheese to me... like TNT's OTHER Spielberg-produced alien drama, "Taken," only that one had the good sense to put more emphasis on the story than the not-very-special effects. I see they took a couple of pages out of Spielberg's own War of the Worlds, threw a couple shakycam shots and some color desaturation in there, but a bunch of guys with fingerless gloves running around throwing grenades at stuntmen in rubber alien suits does not sound like a good time at this juncture.

I watched parts of it. Somewhat annoying. At one point, the humans are discussing where to hide out, and they reject a building because it has "too many windows", as if they're concerned about the aliens finding them. They're having this conversation while standing around in a big group in broad daylight in a suburban area. If these people are worried about being found by aliens, why are they always parading around like they want to be noticed?

And there's the tired old Puppet Masters thing, where alien things attach themselves to human backs and control the humans from there. And there are walking mechathings that will bore anybody who's seen a Star Wars movie.

I found it pretty yawnworthy.

So the first episode was nothing special, but it was pretty well done. I love that they don't try to fake "gritty realism" with an amateurish shaky cam. At times the show got surprisingly suspenseful. I blame the spider looking aliens. But I totally agree with everybody who critisizes the show's lack or originality. Maybe it gets better, maybe not, but if not, it should at least stay on that level.

P.S.: When Noah Wyle found that dead kid in the grass, am I the only one who thought that that it looked like Michael Cera?

Two episodes in and I can't think of a single reason to continue watching. Now they're copping the "wall of photos" schtick from Battlestar Galactica. Is there a single original or inventive idea in this thing? Nope. I had high hopes for this, but they've fallen woefully short. Anyone got the numbers on this show? I'd be interested to see how much the viewership has fallen off from the premiere.

Keep in mind that the wall of photos thing was also used in Spielberg's War of the Worlds, which is probably where Falling Skies takes most of its cues from. Whether Spielberg first ripped off BSG I'm not sure because they both came out around the same time, and they were both products of a post-9/11 world (War of the Worlds pretty blatantly, but I also know that BSG worked the terrorism angle pretty hard for a couple story arcs).

But Falling Skies is 75% less groan inducing then BSG and all in all at least 80% more entertaining.

Ironically enough, the new series has turned all BSG, almost exactly like when they met up with the Pegasus.

It is entertaining, it's an improvement over the first series but it still feels like the 90's World of the World series with Connor McLeod - 'cept he's not in it.

Just did a major catch up with season 2 (The last 6 episodes in one day) and I think the show has improved (thanks to a deeper look into the alien hirarchy), but it's still nothing groundbreaking or cutting edge (except that it's maybe the show with the most dead children right now). That said: It's still a lot better than most of the last season of THE WALKING DEAD.

anyone watching this anymore? There was a fair amount that I actually liked last season. I'm not so into this season so far. The "one of my boys is missing I must drop everything and find him" is growing pretty thin. But the part that bugs me the most at this point is the subplot with the daughter. It reeks far too much of the "Star Child" from V to me.

This show "borrows" so so so much from what has come before. Occasionally it does those things ok. Usually it's pretty painful. The characters and storylines are hackneyed cliches. But it's summer, so fuck it, i'll keep watching. It's better than Master Chefs or So You Think You Can Dance. Besides, I want to see someone shoot that bitch Lourdes in the face. Can't stand her character. I'm sure the actress is a lovely woman.
