Ronald D Moore's 17th PRECINCT! (Now Cancelled)

The greatest TV in history is being made right now. The worst TV in history is being made right now.

Yes! Ron Moore's 'grown-up Harry Potter' pilot ordered by NBC

NBC just picked up his pilot, which could be described as “Harry Potter for grown-ups.”

The Sony Pictures TV project takes place in world ruled by magic instead of science. The working title is 17th Precinct and it’s basically an ensemble police drama set in the fictional town of Excelsior.

Precinct is not the only ambitious Moore project in the pipeline at NBC. The writer-producer also has The McCulloch, about the men and women of a fictional Coast Guard cutter as they travel around the world (that project, we’re told, is still kicking despite the Precinct pickup…).

From AICN:
NBC Orders Ronald D. Moore’s Magic-Cops Drama To Pilot!!

New information regarding casting has hit and I couldn't be more excited!

Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, and Stockard Channing have all joined the cast. It is a veritable BSG reunion!

Notes on the casting can be found here.

The pedigree of those involved is enough to generate excitement, but I just hope this doesn't end up going the route of Ronald Moore's last TV effort, the failed virtual reality thing.

Color me intrigued! I hope they don't play everyone true to prior type (Bamber as the earnest magic cop (auror?), Callis as the bad guy, Helfer as the seductress......actually, never mind, I'd be cool with all of that).

Looking forward to seeing what this turns into.

One thing that I really hope is that Callis gets to speak with his British accent. Watching him on Eureka became distracting at times with him trying to get that 1940's American accent straight.

Bamber doesn't really have the same problem.

Love, love, love the casting and I'm pretty pumped for this series, despite the fact that it's totally stepping on the toes of "Powers." Still, if Ron Moore can do for magic what "Battlestar" did for sci-fi--and with network dollars to spend!--I'm there.

I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to see your pilot.

Possibilities here.

'Battlestar' Alumna Tricia Helfer Joins Ron Moore's NBC Pilot '17th Precinct'
Nellie Andreeva wrote:EXCLUSIVE: The more, the merrier. Battlestar Galactica developer/ executive producer Ron Moore has tapped a third co-star from the hit Syfy series, Tricia Helfer, to join his new sci-fi project, NBC's pilot 17th Precinct. The Sony TV-produced drama is set in the fictional town of Excelsior where magic and supernatural elements rule over science and revolves around the cops at the local 17th Precinct. Helfer will play Morgana, a necromancer, the magical equivalent of a coroner, who is an expert at manipulating the potions, tools, herbs and spells of her trade.

In the pilot, Helfer joins fellow Battlestar alumni James Callis and Jamie Bamber.

This sounds like it's shaping up to be a pretty interesting project. I can't wait for it to be cancelled after the pilot.

Apparently my guess was a little too optimistic. :(

Anyone think the Sci-Fi channel could be induced to pick this up? Sure Caprica bombed,
but it was just a stupid sci-fi soap opera. This is a more promising premise.

Apparently, this is why Fables didn't get the okay for a pilot, once the script was purchased. Give us the fables, damn it! As for SyFy, they are too busy giving us Asylum-level "premiere" movies and wrestling. Another decent original series may be beyond their means.

I kind of wanted to see 17th Precinct and Fables for that matter.
I have very little interest in watching anything on Syfy, which is a bit of a shame because Warehouse 13 was kind of fun. The new BSG spinoff might lure me back in, but after the crap they pulled with BSG and Caprica's scheduling, I'm getting apprehensive.
