Wilfred on FX

The greatest TV in history is being made right now. The worst TV in history is being made right now.

If there's another post on this can we merge it? (I tried searching for one but came up empty).

BUT my god I love this freaking show! (it's based on an Aussie hit with the same writers). You can tell the writers are most definately dog-people because the subtle nuances and humor are just so damned silly and true!

It's also nice seeing Elijah Wood not be so Hobbity for once :)

You guys definately gotta catch this show, there's only 3 episodes so far.

I've caught the first two episodes and am loving the sheer absurdity of it all.

i've been catching up on this show and it's pretty damn funny. last week's episode was pretty warped. any show that features bestiality and man-on-stuffed-giraffe cuckolding can't go wrong.

so, what's the general opinion on wilfred. is he a dog who can really talk and do those things and elijah wood is the only one who can understand him? or is elijah wood just projecting onto the dog all the things his subconscious thinks the dog is thinking and doing?

I always favor the subconscious projection theory (like 6 on Battlestar Galactica), so I'll go with that one! But it might be one of those things that they never come down on either way. Plus I like the idea of a stoner having imaginary conversations with his neighbor's dog.

yeah, i'm thinking it's all in his head too. especially the way the dog is always getting him into trouble and forcing him to do things he thinks he doesn't want to do, but deep down he probably really does wnat to do, and so by projecting those desires and impulses on the dog he doesn't have to face the fact that those thoughts and feelings and desires really come from inside his own head.

or i'm just thinking too much about this show.

For those who like the show, Jason Gann (the Dog) made two series of it with an Australian cast before going to the US and hooking up with Elijah Wood. The premise is the same, but the tone is a little bit different - just slightly less psychotic and more ironic.

I think he's self-projecting but the constant questioning of it is what makes it so much fun.

here, I made a pretty picture inspired by Wilfred. I'm wondering if it will spawn Wilfred fan-fic erotica?

I really have tried to give this show a chance. I mean, the potential for humor is there, and I tried an episode or two but couldn't get into it. I mean, to me it felt like another of those shows or movies where a guy has an invisible friend only he can see and hear. Which leads of course to a thousand awkward "Who are you talking to?" and "What are you doing?" questions from confused people. If I was to try a show like this, I'd have done it the other way around, where everybody sees a certain person but one individual.
