SOUTH PARK

Postby John-Locke on Wed Oct 19, 2005 3:18 pm

South Park starts again tonight, looks like some kind of parody of what happened in NO with everyone blaming the President.

Can't wait.

The only thing that could've made that episode better would have been an appearance by Kanye West.

i thought it was terrible. probably the worst, most politically ignorant episode they ever made.

nobody ever blamed Bush for the hurricane. they blamed him for the poor response and poor planning; in addition to appointing unqualified and incompetant cronies that botched the rescue effort and didn't show up until a week after thousands were already dead.

in addition, nobody blamed global warming as the cause. all i heard about global warming during the disaster is that clearly it was a contributing factor in the increased strength and frequency of these storms of late. which is true; or at least, the most most likely given the mountains of empirical and theoretical evidence supplied by scientists to support the theory. out of the countless hours of coverage i was compelled to watch, i heard global warming mentioned maybe once or twice tops; and it wasn't by shrill over-the-top econuts, it was by calm scientists and weather experts.

it would have been alot funnier if they directed their satire at FEMA and Bush, not the victims. in addition it would have been alot funnier if they took a look at class issues and issues of race (clearly N.O. was not a priority for the Bushies because it was filled with poor black people). but instead they did exactly what the Bush administration did -- admonish people playing the so called "blame game." (ironic seeing as how the people who don't want to "play the blame game" are usually the ones to blame.)

terrible. perhaps Trey and Matt should either stay away from politics entirely and stick to what they know -- the antics of kids. cause right now, it looks like Karl Rove must be their new contributing writer...

Ha. Good grab. Stan looks like Michael Myers as a child. Such cold evil calculating eyes...

Dr. Loomis :I met him, fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the *devil's* eyes! I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... *evil*!

Poor Stan!

South Park News 4 UK Viewers...

Postby thomasgaffney on Fri Jan 20, 2006 11:38 am

Cruise 'South Park' Show Censored

Tom Cruise has reportedly stopped an episode of South Park that mocks
him from being aired in Britain. The show, in which Nicole Kidman and
Cruise's fellow Scientologist John Travolta are depicted attempting to
coax an animated version of the actor out of a closet caused
controversy when broadcast in the US. The cartoon Kidman tells Cruise,
"Don't you think this has gone on long enough? It's time for you to
come out of the closet. You're not fooling anyone." - referring to
allegations about Cruise's sexuality. According to TheRegister.co.uk,
Paramount has agreed not to show the episode again, after Cruise
complained. A source tells the site, "Tom is famously very litigious
and will go to great lengths to protect his reputation. Tom was said
not to like the episode and Paramount just didn't dare risk showing it
again. It's a shame that UK audiences will never see it because it's
very funny."

You're a jerk! He came over to do an interview and this is how he was thanked? Jerky jerk jerk jerkwad! ;)

Cruise was possibly one Hugh Grant/Eddie Murphy/Paul Reubens type incident away from 2005 being the WORST year of his life.

The bastard was still in one of the best movies of the year though, he at least has that.

And anyway, it's not that Tom Cruise the South Park episode was lampooning, it was the other locked-in-the-closet, scientologist midget (Mel Gibson...come on Passion of the Christ was just a ploy to get you to join the rankings of Xenu).

I actually really like Cruise, I joined his official fan-club and got a Cruiseteer badge, Born on the Fourth of July is one of my favourite films, it's just pretty easy to jump on the anti-Cruise bandwagon.

Yeah, in terms of the anti-cruise bandwagon, I think its high time people learnt more about stars and their publicists. Its truly crazy, whole lives made up and manipulated by a handful of people... Sinister, nah, but it sure makes the people who gossip about stars (in the most part) mundane.

Well it's not really suprising considering he's a scientologist.

Oh just read the article and

Matt Stone wrote:"This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem — and he's cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians."

I actually thought this might happen back when they aired the infamous episode.

Yeah, this is really disappointing. Who would ever think Scientologists would have less humor than Christians?

It's really becoming the new "persecuted" minority, isn't it?

Yet if they'd like to seem less nuts, they could chill out a bit.

I think that's a really great point, and it points to the hypocrisy of the situation. South Park has been about satirizing everyone from word one. You can't play along for years and then get pissed when they look back in your direction.

Here's another bit from Stone's statement:
Matt Stone wrote:"In ten years and over 150 episodes of South Park, Isaac never had a problem with the show making fun of Christians, Muslim, Mormons or Jews," Stone said in the statement that Hayes "got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show."

Those are some nice, harsh, true words. Man, Scientology freaks me out. How did they get to ulta cool Isaac Hayes? Its just sad.

That said, can't wait for the "Slam Isaac Hayes" episode.
