I remember watching a couple episodes of this a few summers ago on adult swim and really digging it, but them some slut saw it and thought it was unsuitable for cable and bitched about it until it was canceled. shes gonna get it.

In search for a captive pirate, an alien girl riding a Vespa uses a 12-year-old boy's head as a multidimensional channel.

WTF?

You like this sick sounding crap?

Not to sound judgemental (sp) or nothing.

FLCL was an OVA (original video animation.. think Direct-to-Video) series which is why the shorter episode count (but also why it looks prettier) than the standard 13/26 format of the tv series.. plus the story was wrapped up pretty nicely after all

And yeah, it probably is up there as one of the best anime series about if you're able to accept head popping robots and the what not as a metaphor for a kid's coming-of-age :P

(brilliant soundtrack by The Pillows too)

There was official talk in 2001 of a movie coming out (so far that a trailer was ready to be announced) but I got no idea what happened to it.

While I won't try, I won't continue knocking you for it. Se la vie or something.

That sounds similar to MTV's The HEAD.
God I loved that show.

i've been curious about this show, but i haven't seen it yet. wasn't it made by the Hideki Anno? the guy who brought us EVANGELION?

It was made by the same studio, but Anno wasn't controlling it like he did with Evangelion.

Gainax, the studio behind Evangelion, produced the FLCL direct to video OAV/OVA along with Production IG, but it wasn't a Hikeaki Anno project. I think the extent of the Evangelion creator/directors involvement was that he did the voice for a cat.

Great series, highly reccomended if anyone hasn't seen it. I've never bought into the whole argument that it was indecypherable or "on crack/acid/ect". Production IG did some pretty crazy stuff in the anime, and it is definately wild, but its all rather overtly Freudian.

FLCL is an exceptional series. I'm not really into Anime, save for the Miyazaki flicks. But I was surprised by the depth in this series. It's not just decent animation, big robots etc. I think I first heard of it on this site actually. Maybe a report from Fantasia by Moriarty a couple years back.
