This thread might be a spectacular failure, but I figured I'd at least give it a whirl. Feel free to discuss all things Nicktoon below, and if I missed yours or your kid's favorite show let me know.

I watched Doug more then anything else, so I picked that.

But old school live action Nick > *

Are You Afraid of the Dark, Pete and Pete, Saluter Your Shorts, etc etc all rocked.

As much as I like Fairly Oddparents and Jimmy Neutron, Spongebob Squarepants is so where it's at. That show rocks my pants.

The old school stuff -- Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy -- were all pretty good. Doug wasn't very good when it came back on ABC, and Rugrats was especially lousy when they started producing new episodes in 1997. That was a bummer for me, because it was my favorite Nicktoon, I think.

Invader ZIM!!!!!
It's like an acid trip for 5 year olds.

Does Teenage Robot also qualify as a nicktoon or is it just on Nick here in Germany?

Because that would be my choise.

I'd say Doug or Are you Afraid of the Dark.

I totaly forgot about this thread.

During the year Invader Zim enormously grew on me for some reason. I must be far less sane then I always thought.

I never saw this thread first time round - but another vote for Spongebob Squarepants from me!
I watched it with my Godson a few times, he loves it and there's definitely enough to keep the adults amused.

My neigbour's kid calls him "Funbob" - a habit I've picked up. It's actually been several months since I last called him Spongebob...

My Life As A Teenage Robot is my favorite, also.

and not just because Bruce Campbell was the voice of Himcules in one episode....

my top three favs are Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron, and Fairly Odd Parents. i voted for Jimmy Neutron, but really it is a toss up between Jimmy and Spongebob. both have funnier, more witty writing than most, prime time sit-coms. we should have a "favorite cartoon episode" thread. :D "ruby madness! ruby madness!"

It's my favorite hands down. Yeah, Invader Zim was brilliant and all, but I honestly think it had no place on Nickelodeon. I'm going to try and get FOP on DVD to watch with my class, the show is just so crazy and fun while still being kid oriented at the same time.

I remember Salute Your Shorts. I feel bad for Donkeylips, because that motherfucker could cure cancer and the headline would read Donkeylips Cures Cancer.

Also, the Angry Beavers is one of the greatest cartoons ever, if you get that Nicktoon channel, check it out sometime. One of the beavers is voiced by the guy who went on to do Zim's voice. Wonderful show..

My favorite was The Angry Beavers. I still have no idea how Ren and Stimpy made it onto a kids network.

Anyone remember Hey dude or Dude Ranch or whatever it was called?

Thanks to the television tyranny of my five year old, I am forced to view Nic's offerings.

And they scare the shit out of me.

Voted for Square Pants.

Heeeeey Dude!

As for "Angry Beavers," I could never stand that show. Maybe I should try to re-watch it now and see if I feel any differently about it, but whenever the two beavers would do those weird shouty voices, it was like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

I have to say that Avatar is pretty damn good. Jap ideas mixed with western animation. Nice... anyone else seem much of this? It seems so be Nick's big hitter at the moment, so much bloody advertisments and publisity....

They were all pretty good in their own way- or, at least better than most of The Disney Channels offerings- and I'm finding it hard to pick a favourite. For me NOW it'd be Invader Zim, but the one I watched the most must have been Doug. Doug and Skeeter's garage band kicked ass and took names. "Banging on a trashcan, drumming on a streetlight".

It's a shame about that vociferously lame Doug Movie.

One thing I can't stand on retrospect, though, are some of Nick's terrible live-action programs like Sister, Sister, Drake and Josh and a couple of others. They had quite a few gems like Clarissa Explains it All and Pete&Pete tucked in between the turds though.

I dont think it was the beavers as much as everything else. Those black and white movies? So funnnny.

I kinda liked that show, but mostly because the Beavers were doing pretty good impressions of Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber

This thread needs some Danny Phantom love (aside from the poll).

C'mon guys, it's a superhero show! With ghosts! On top of that there are some clever villains, a likeable protagonist, and a few funny gags sprinkled throughout. What's not to like?

Favorite Nicktoon?

Invader Zim was the greatest thing that Channel ever did.

And they pissed it away for more Rugrats shit.

"Invader ZIM"...hilarious.

"The lazer weasel experiment must be ripe by now...COMPUTER! TAKE ME TO THE WEEE-SELS!"

Also, "Angry Beavers" is classic, both of these in part to Richard Horowitz.

But I miss the live-action stuff...the good stuff like "Pete and Pete". Though I do admit I find the bizarre Canadian puppet show "Mr. Meaty" to be funny.

It does seem like a lot of funny shows come from up North...back in the day, I loved "You Can't Do That on Television" and KITH.

Was it not a the Ren anna the Stimpy who paved a the way for alla the other Nick Toons? Holy crappa, dinna they practically DEFINE a the goddamn Cartoon Network as it stands a today?

Now poo comes out of your mouth? What?

Listen, Nicktoons is the reason Ren & Stimpy lost its teeth, due in no short part to MTV (another Viacom property) firing John K. from his own goddamnn show.

Of course, the man was nefarious already at that time for the 'Might Mouse snorting coke' fiasco, and for keeping company with the rat-bastard of all animation, Bakshi.

But still, Viacom fires the man from his creation, because they can't find a way to edit his stuff down enough for kids TV - so for the sake of John K., don't thank Ren & Stimpy for anything to do with Nicktoons

You raise a the good points, paisan, but a perhaps a the Dino, he should have a gone onna further... The Nickelodeon, they rape a the Ren anna Stimpy of alla things good anna clever, anna dance onna the corpse of a the John K. alla the while trying to bring a the "Ren anna Stimpy" feeling to alla their other animated properties, no?

It's a sort of a like when a the Beatles, they kick outta the Clarence Walker from a the band anna iffa you play back a the "Love a Me Do" back-a-wards you can a hear a the John Lennon say "Hey, Paul! Let's alla get rid of a the Clarence anna steal alla his good ideas, eh?"
