Justice League Unlimited

Postby Chairman Kaga on Thu Feb 09, 2006 10:54 am

"New" episodes start airing here in the states this Saturday Feb 11th 10:30 pm eastern so I thought this was as good a time as any to start a thread speculating whether this show has been canned or not.

I have been reading Hercules' JLU posts on the main page and each time Herc mentions that these are likely the last episodes of the show but I can't seem to find any official word about this. I have found some references here and there on the web about the show's possible cancellation plucked from interviews and blogs etc with Dini and Timm and others. Further down the Animation Board (ie the wastelands of the Zone) there is a post about CN passing on another season of Teen Titans which most take as an indication that CN will soon dump JLU. SuperHeroHype's boards have a thread about the usual save this show tactics (letter, phone call, email campaign etc) but not really any solid word. Considering this show was cancelled and then uncancelled about a year ago Cartoon Network seems to be pretty bipolar about it.

Any thoughts, comments, concerns?

Renamed the thread.

Although it is not official, I believe it will be cancelled. I am not happy about it, but it is what it is.

When you put shows on unannounced hiatus and move it all over the schedule, the hand writing is on the wall.

I reluctantly agree.....it seems like a shame really.

I would love to see Avi Arad somehow strike a deal with WB to produce a marvel cartoon using JlU's creative team.

I never understood the lack of support for this show by the network. They'll repeat a dozen other anime and other cartoons all throughout the week, but I'd be lucky to catch JLA once! And usually I wouldn't catch it at all because I never knew when it'd be on. Is the show that low-rated? I guess I'll have to take solace in the DVD sets.

It's weird because I remember a couple of Cn reps coming to my art school (SCAD) right before they premiered Justice League to show us the John Carter/War of the Worlds JL movie. They seemed really excited to be supporting it then.

Well according to Herc it's not Cartoon Network who's the antagonist here, right? Representatives from Warner Bros. are stepping on their toes, or at least that's the way I understand it. So Cartoon Network may have wanted to keep this show on the air but can't.

Thought I may as well use this thread. Potential spolierage below.

Episode 12 - So is it Darkseid who is behind the Secret Society or was his release just an accidental biproduct of Lex's plan to revive Brainiac?[/code]

I read somewhere that CN is going to start showing Marvel cartoons. Like a new Iron Man (either animated movie or series, I foget), and the Utlimate Avengers movie out now and the sequel.

CN will be showing both Marvel and DC cartoons.
The next DC show will be The Legion of Super Heroes!
Andy Milder, voice of Lightning Lad in the upcoming Legion of Super Heroes animated series, told The Continuum he "couldn't think of a way to be more excited" about getting the role.

"I read the Legion books like crazy when I was a kid," Milder told The Continuum. "My older brother is 11 years my senior and collected them, so I started near the very beginning. While I confess to falling out for some years in the 80s and 90s, I keep my eye on them.

"Lightning Lad, however -- this is a true honor. A founding member and, for my money, one of the coolest-powered heroes? Fantastic."

The Legion series is being produced at Warner Bros. Animation, which has not officially announced the show yet. It is expected to premiere on Kids' WB! and eventually also air on Cartoon Network, a la The Batman.

Milder told The Continuum voice recording has already begun on the series, with Kelly Ward as the voice director.

In the series, Lightning Lad is the Legion's field leader. Other prominent members will include Superboy, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, Timber Wolf, Phantom Girl and Bouncing Boy.

An early episode, likely the first, will explain how Superboy winds up in the 31st Century.

Other Legion members will appear, and the Fatal Five will be among the villains.

That is supposed to be a concept drawing for the series.

Ugh. So I guess animation doesn't have to look good anymore. :(

Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

Can't wait until I can grab that on DVD. I somehow missed a number of the old JL and JLU eps that were multiple episode arcs...Like the Joker in Vegas one..

I got this recently, one of the few times I splurge on tv box sets when they come out (I admit it, I'm a cheap bastard). But this was well worth it. The extras are pretty slim, but all in all, it's a great collection, and I can't wait for the 2nd season, and the return of the Legion of Doom........err, the Secret Society.

Favorite episodes:

Panic in the sky: Great fight sequences, tons of cool cameos and appearances.

Cat and the Canary: Dennis Farina voicing Wildcat. Nuff said.

Double Date: Question and Huntress, 2 characters that normally get ZERO love in the comics, own this episode. Very good stuff here.

Clash: Big Red Cheese vs. Big Blue Boyscout. Seen it in the comics, but this is how you do a big superfight. Someone send this to Singer and co. and tell him this is what we need in Superman Returns 2 (or whatever title)

Anyway, your favorite episodes? Voices? Etc. Feel Free
