A Ren and Stimpy movie would be pretty funny. Like with real animals a la Garfield. But filled with vulgar language and the wierd stuff.

By "weird stuff" do you mean the early subtle homoeroticism or the later not so subtle homoeroticism?

Have you ever seen a show called "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century"? It's not too bad, considering that the show is intended for the young 'uns. Episodes tend to be based on Doyle's Holmes stories.

Could make for an interesting live action thing, except that Holmes seems to be just a little too "at-home" in the future. I would think that 500 years worth of time travel would be a massive shock to the system, even for the super-brainy Sherlock Holmes.

For that reason, I would propose that Holmes be portrayed by Gary Busey.

I second Thundarr and Pole Position. You can never have enough post-apocalyptic barbarians or talking cars. I'd also like to see Mighty Orbots. On the giant robot tip there's also Tranzor Z. Battle of the Planets/G-Force/Gatchaman would be cool too, as long as it wasn't patterned after the version Turner mangled and aired. I'd say Turbo Teen but I couldn't keep a straight face.

Speed Racer. . . . oh, wait . . .

the seven cities of gold would be kickarse.

although it was a cartoon, i never really liked that iteration, but the tintin comics, proposed to be adapted by spielberg: awesome.

as a trilogy (which is proposed) i would think (and this would be topical):
The Land of Back Gold, The Crab With the Golden Claws, and The Red Sea Sharks

or possibly;

The Seven Crystal Balls, Prisoners of the Sun

but i think Spielberg would really knock out of the park;

Flight 714, The Calculus Affair, Tintin and the Picaros

Jamie and the magic torch would be fookin' ace. That would be some seriously trippy shit...

I have a theory that the slide under his bed that took him to that 'magical world' was symbolic of the uses of Heroin.

It worked too, as i haven't ever had even dabbled with the H.

Thundarr all the way, so long as it's a heavy pg-13/R...would have Joe Landsale wright the script, John Carpenter direct and set it 20 years after the show...grittier, darker, bloodier...with cannibals...preistesses...and Ookla with dreads, scars and tattoos.

It breaks down like this:

Thundarr the Barbarian lived on Earth, but it was a post-apocolyptic, 2000-years-in-the-future Earth.

The ThunderCats lived on the planet Thundera before they fled to "Third Earth" (presumably, Third Earth is Future Earth too, but they never really say) when Thundera is invaded by the Mutants.

The Mutants (from planet Plun-Darr) followed the ThunderCats to Third Earth and end up becoming Mumm-Ra's henchmen.

bump from a locked thread:

LaDracul wrote:Forgive me if there's already a topic, and I know how a lot of people gripe about movie studios not doing original ideas...

Now, what would you like to see as a movie?

I'm thinking a live-action "Captain Caveman" would be pretty fun, with Rosario Dawson, Eliza Dushuku and Jessica Simpson as the Teen Angels. I think for Cavey to work, he'd have to be CGI and voiced by Noel Blanc, son of Mel Blanc.

And a longshot from the Krofft library, "Bigfoot and Wildboy" with Ed Speleers as Wildboy, Vanessa Hudgens as the girl, and Shaq as Bigfoot. Hell, it'll still make more money than "Steel" and "Kazaam!" combined.

Your ideas?

I'm really enjoying this love fest for Thundarr :) That was the greatest cartoon. Of course, He-Man stole it's thunder (pun not intended). That show had a GREAT premise, sort of... if you remove all of the "Earth would NOT survive that sort of disaster" elements.

Regardless, I always loved the post-apocalyptic story they had going. Crazy alien domed strongholds towering above the swamplands that were once farmland outside of a nuked-looking city. SO fuckin sick! I want those cartoons on DVD now so I can get going on the script :D

By the way, I haven't been able to scan through this entire thread yet. Any love for the Spiral Zone out there? No one ever remembers that. Shit, more people remember Thundarr than Spiral Zone.

Oh, and Danger Mouse as a live action/CGI hybrid would pwn the planet. It really could be absolutely AMAZING. Look at Stewart Little. It's obvious that it can be done. But it would be even better if they just completely avoid the outside world, like everything out there in human-land is completely peripheral. You see people in the background walking around while DM and Penfold are flying around in the car, but no one really notices them. That would be good stuff.

And come on... a CGI version of Stilletto and Baron Sylus Greenback would be the shit. You could even throw a Count Duckula cameo in there!

Well, as it's been previously mentioned in a thread that was locked prematurely...

"Captain Caveman"-Rosario Dawson, Jessica Simpson and Elisha Dushuku as the Teen Angels, three hot detectives that join a thawed out caveman (CGI, with voice by Noel Blanc, Mel's son) to solve crime. That's begging to be made.

Danger Mouse could totally look like this in a live-action/CGI hybrid or fully animated (2d or CG) film:
Image

Cartoons I'd like to see as movies:

Batman TAS... by which I mean a Batman movie series that is largely influenced by the cartoon, as opposed to Nolan's stuff which seems not all influenced by it.

Batman Beyond.

Samurai Jack. And my crazy directer choice for that is George Lucas, who would have absolutely nothing to do with writing the script.

I have one, I have one!

It's called 'Hey, why not make something original and stop robbing people's childhoods, you talentless, ghoulish hacks!'

I know the title's a bit long, but it's fixable.

I figure you take a show like, 'Battle of the Planets'. But instead of using the 5 main characters from that show, all of the villians, and the entire plot, you make up something totally different with a different name, characters, and a different plot!

It's BRILLIANT!!

Even more brilliant would be, when complaining about originality, to have an original argument. I know you probably think you're the first to bring this up, but really the only difference I see between the people remaking stuff and the people complaining about it is that at least the movie studios can see when they're being unoriginal...

Ok, how about complaining about a thread that's promoting un-originality? I'm sure if you looked around enough, you'd find a Best TV Show to Movie, Best Toy to Movie, Best Cereal to Movie. I'm hoping to discourage this trend. And BTW, I may not have been the first to think it, but I was the first to say it here in this thread, and just because its been said before, doesn't make it untrue, and I disagree that studios can see they're being unoriginal. They probably think they're brilliant, like you.

BTW, it's $.25 everytime I'm quoted, make checks payable to 'Biscut LLC'.

kthx.
