Prof. Challenger touched on it briefly in his coverage, but I thought I'd point directly to the Wizard World article describing the Ultimate Avengers scene shown at Wizard World Texas.

While the beardless Thor thing is a lame, unnecessary change, it doesn't look too horrible:

Personally, I'd like to hear more about the voices, sound effects, overall quality of the scene. Anyone happen to visit WWT and care to fill me in?

Does anyone know if this just covers the first part of the Ultimates Vol 1? You know, the gathering and then their trial by fiar against the Hulk? Sure this isn't going to cover the alien invasion story too.

I would guess they're done with all of the voices.
About 12 months ago they had an open audition for voice talent posted on Marvel.com, wherein one could download sides and submit a taped reading; I considered auditioning but never got around to it. I still have most of the sides if you want 'em, they're pretty interesting even if most of the dialogue is straight from the comics.

You know, it's seriously frustrating trying to find information about this movie. I've only been able to find one of the voice actors and 3 pieces of promo art - there's nary a still or snippet of footage to be had. For crying out loud, this movie comes out in February for a direct-to-DVD release, which is enough of an uphill battle as is. Their marketing department is really fucking this one up.

On the plus side, the first teaser should be on the FF DVD next week, so maybe they'll pull their heads out and put the damn thing on the interweb.

I just watched the Ultimate Avengers trailer on the F4 DVD and it was... somewhat disappointing.
First, it's very short. Second, the animation is not great, and some of the designs are pretty sketchy. Captain America has undergone a (competely unnecessary) costume change - it only shows the waist up, but it appears he's all blue except for a large star on his chest, two stars on his shoulders, and the "A" on his forehead. Both the 616 and Ultimate versions are superior, imo.

There are some screencaps at Toon Zone, but be warned: it looks better in stills than in moving animation.

Oh, and to answer burl's question from way back: yes, it looks like the story spans the entire first volume of the Ultimates (there are flashes of the alien invasion, in other words), but it may be spread over both movies.

A little more info about the voice cast:

Toon Zone Forum wrote:In addition to the previously reported Grey DeLisle as Wasp and Olivia D'Abo as Black Widow, the voice cast of the direct-to-DVD Ultimate Avengers animated movie will include Justin Gross as Captain America, Marc Worden as Iron Man, Dave Boat as Thor, Fred Tatsciore as Hulk, Michael Massee as Bruce Banner, Nolan North as Giant-Man and Andre Ware as Nick Fury.

And here's an early mock-up of the cover art from davisdvd.com:

Adam Balm wrote:Damn. Hulk's still grey.

He's grey in Ultimates.

And his design (as well as Cap's) in the promo art differs from that in the movie, despite the fact that all promo art was based off of the movie's character designs, so either they keep messing up or he may yet change color.

Andre Ware as Nick Fury?

Surely not the same Andre Ware who was the first Black quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy?

Or is it?

'Cuz that's pretty cool if it is...Heisman AND voicing Nick Fury. Wow.

Marvel's site may eventually get around to posting the thing, too, if they get around to it.

New pics at Comics Continuum, scroll down about half-way to see 'em.

It looks a little more... low-budget than I was hoping.

Edit: The official site has slightly higher-res versions in their gallery.

Damn.

Oh well, Marvel doesn't have the greatest track record with the quality of their animation anyway. Iron Man looks fine, Hulk actually looks even lower-tech than Lou Ferrigno in green make up, if you can believe that....

The only reason I'm disappointed is that it was built up so high in interviews. "We're going DVD so we don't have to worry about focus groups and the mass market, we can push the edge...yada yada..."

i'm guessing the animation will be on par with G.I. Joe.

I'm looking forward to it.

If it does well, it will encourage more straight to DVD releases, and I'm guessing the animation will improve with each release.

And it is too early to judge, really. Still, this combined with the 'room full of writers' that this thing had on it, I dunno. I'm still a little cautious about it retaining the original vision of Millar and Hitch...

Meh dont know how good it will be if they didnt have the balls to call it the Ultimates.
All comic fans know who the Ultimates are.
Very few non-comic fans know who the AVENGERS are. So by this name change maybe they are trying to bring back fans who have long ago stopped reading comics or fans of John Steed and Emma Peel. (hey it worked in reverse for me, i ended up looking for something based on the comics whenever i saw AVENGERS in the tv guide)

Also i read the article that said this would be a comic brought to the screen panel by panel.

I doubt they will have the balls to make Hulk a sex craved pervert. Captain America the asshole he is in the Ultimates, Giant Man a wife beater, and so on.

Plus i dare them to put in two of the greatest comics scenes EVER that were in the first volume of the Ultimates.
One - Hulk going berserk because Captain America just told him that the Skrulls called him Dumbledore. Hulk jumps out of a moving flying contraption yelling "HULK STRAAAIGHT!" wrecking havoc eventually chomping a guys head off.

and Two - Super skrull has damn near beat Captain America to death. And he tells him Oh why don't you give up captain. The situation is hopeless, you might as well surrender.
Captain wakes up out of his near coma, beats the living crap out of the Super Skrull guy and says
"Surrender!? Do you think this "A" on my forehead stands for France, boy!?!"

19 days left.

The full trailer, which has been up in Flash format on the official site for awhile, is available in Quicktime and WM at IGN.
It definitely looks much better than the teaser, and any trailer that ends with Hulk choking the shit out of someone is OK in my book.
Some of the voices are disappointing, however, especially Captain America.

Considering JLU is now all but cancelled I would love to see WB's animation department take on a Marvel property....Imagine a Bruce Timm styled Spidey cartoon helmed by Altieri, Murakami and the rest of those fine folks. Of course WB animation being a sub company of Time Warner which also owns DC would make it pretty nearly impossible.

I'd be more excited except that it's not only the worst comic in the Ultimate Universe, it's a heavyweight challenger for the worst comic in Marvel's current stable. I like my heroes to actually be heroes, not macho jerks, in it for the fame, or self-righteous hippies. I just don't believe a single member of that team has even a glimmer of a noble motivation.

I got the clip to work (but only in the smallest size - damn you streaming video!) and it looked pretty good.

The movie got an A+ review in this month's GIANT magazine. According to writer Alison Prato, "Marvel fans will appreciate the frenzied action, the incredible animation and the varied plot twists. It's probably not meant to be funny, but seeing the Hulk freak out on his peeps is kind of hilarious."

Who says these people are supposed to be heros? They're members of a special-abilities task force paid for and run by a very nasty bunch of CIA-type spooks. These are not the Avengers and not meant to be. That they come off as heros to their public is in large part the result of aggressive marketing.

The thing about the Ultimates is that they're as much heroes as you'll find in the real world. Some like Tony and Thor and Captain America, try to do the right thing, in the way they see it. Others like Banner and Pym are out for their share of glory. Maybe in the Ultimates, like the real world, there are no heroes..but there is heroism.
