Not true at all. That movie was Lasseter's baby at PIXAR and was not some demographic/focus group designed product. It may be their weakest film to date but it was a story Lasseter wanted to tell.

Oh really? Well there you go. It just felt lke it was make so they can sell toys.

So I felt the need to talk a bit about WALL*E because the footage shown at the Con was just THAT good. In my opinion WALL*E was the best presentation at the Con. The footage far surpassed IRON MAN or anything else shown. Watching Ben Burtt showcase his extensive work on the film was really a treat. Had me smiling the entire time.

The actual clip from the film was excellent. The sheer amount of times that the entire Hall went "awww" was testament to how much emotion is conveyed in the film without using ANY dialogue. Just fantastic. From the footage I have seen...I feel pretty confident saying that WALL*E will be something special. This could be the film that redifines Pixar.

Another bit of information. Andrew Stanton was asked if it was true that this film would be the first Pixar movie to combine live action with animation...much like Happy Feet. He said "we are not Happy Feet. What we are doing is totally different. Thats all i can say about that". So...a live action element to WALL*E? Sounds interesting.

Can I also say that the anomation in the footage we saw was just jaw dropping good. The look of the vacant earth was amazing and it looks as though Pixar went out of their way to make their job harder by filtering everything through this grainy lens...like when you are looking through smog or pollution of some sort. Very textured. About as realistic looking animation as I have ever seen.

Man, I was sold on this when I heard Wall-E saying his name, (I'm a SUCKER for a kick-ass robot voice) but hearing that the footage so far is this good? Whew.

I read that report on the main page about this and meant to post here. It sounds like they are really going all out. I thought for sure that all the talk of this movie being mostly free of dialogue was just talk (ha ha), but to hear it straight from the horse's mouth... man, I am so completely and utterly psyched for this. Please, god, just don't make a fucking video game out of this one. We REALLY don't need the movie tie-in that no one will buy.

Quite how Disney will market a movie with little or no dialog beats me. Ratattouie has just gove over the Blockbuster rating of $200million box office earnings, but places 8th overall in opening weekend takings in the US whereas all the previous Pixar movie placed top five.

Perhaps they coundnt afford voices on this one! Maybe, George Lucas had lots of pathetic twee noises he was going to use for the robots in his re-remake of Star Wars for the next special edition box set and sold them on because he is now going to re-remake the entire Indiana Jones series.

I dunno, it just sounds too....... arty to be a blockbuster

They won't - this idea is internet scuttlebutt that has been contradicted already by Pixar. There's even some links earlier in this thread that you could read...

Any one else slightly creeped out by this? I mean in a good way.

The storyline echoes a lot of really twisted scifi, like Silent Running, the Titan series, and I Have No Mouth Yet I Must Scream. Also, the use of "Brazil" in the trailer makes me wonder what this movie's last shot will be.

Mon Dieu! Quint just recently posted this - New teaser has come a little early?

Apart from the 'custom credits' and the 'roach bit, I think we've already seen this. Looks like Brazil music might be staying too.

Yah, while watching that I was like "Haven't I seen this before? With English subtitles?"

Still loved watching it, even if it was ultra low quality when set to fullscreen. Like I said in the talkbacks, you can REALLY hear R2 in his sounds, specifically during the Pixar logo piece.

I don't speak French that well, but it looks to me like the tagline is more or less the same as it is in English ("after all this time doing what he was built for, he'll discover what he was meant for"), although the play on words sort of gets lost in translation. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

what he was programmed to do

This is one of those times where you can just tell that the movie has everything going for it, and it WILL knock your socks off. I really do hope that they go balls out for this one, and that it absolutely nails it for both adults and children alike. We do need a new E.T., because the old one got neutered.

I just watched that first teaser trailer, and I hate to get all Burl here, but man, I really had to choke back the sick and I really felt my brain kinda diminish in size as tho I'd been out all night, taken 20 pills then crashed in front of the teletubbies as they farted instead of talked - as they make "tubby" custard.

Well, according to a bit in "The Unofficial WDW Guide 2008", Jim Hill reports that the Living Character Initiative of WALL-E will be entertaining people in Tomorrowland next spring. I'll be around there next year, so if I see him, I'll take photos. :)
