Triplettes de Belleville, Les (2003)

Postby Maui on Thu May 17, 2007 12:38 pm

I didn't find any mention of this flick on this thread, so here ya go.

This is really just an incredible movie, unique, breathtaking animation (like the ole days) done by French filmmaker Sylvain Chomet. It has hardly any dialogue but doesn't require any.

Check it out, if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed.

Great great flick, thanks for bringing it up. Go Canada!

Indeeds.

Good call, Maui.

I think it got a fair amount of publicity when it came out, at least in certain circles over here in the UK,it got an Oscar for the soundtrack even, yet these things can always shine brightly and then fall by the way side, it seems.

To illucidate the image some and give a lil' hint to those who may not had the pleasure...

Should have won the Oscar that year, IMO. Brilliant, emotive piece of animation with wonderful characters. A bit too much French knee-jerk anti-Americanism, but hey, that's to be expected.

Spirited Away diserved to win that Oscar, it's still one of the best Miyazaki films out there IMHO.

I have no complaints at all with their choice in 2003 (well other then Chicago )

Yeah, das Trio von Bellville!

I really liked it. Not so much the story - but the animation is great. The atmosphere too's good, in kind of a eerie, slightly depressing kind of way.

And I felt really sorry for the dog - so much weight, such thin paws...

I loved this movie, just watched it the other night. Superlative storytelling, but I must admit that the anti-americanism towards the end even rankled with me, and I oft' have trouble with that nation.

The music is wicked. Haven't seen it in years though - was it really only made in 2003? It was on TV around Christmas time in the UK, at least 2 years ago - I taped it then subsequently lent the tape to someone, never to be seen again!

It looked like one of those movies that seemed interesting but probably would be a huge letdown. You know, like damn near anything by Bakshi.

What an odd but enjoyable movie.

I found it to be pretty uneven, I was starting to lose patience several times throughout the movie but as soon as that happened it won me over with an idea, scene or single image of sheer brilliance.

From the positive reactions I remembered I had hoped for more consistence, but the movie still good, just not that good
Note to myself: Fix this image shit!

I loved the animation and music. Story was just ok.

What the hell is Chomet doing? I expected something new by now.
