Art and Cartoons

Postby LaDracul on Mon Nov 05, 2007 11:24 am

It's obvious that I love the works of Alphonse Mucha. And when I saw the animation and tie-ins for "Enchanted", I went nuts because they're basing it on his style. So, last night, I was looking at photos of his works online and found this-

A champagne label and Princess Giselle

Of course, this is nothing new as "Snow White" was based on Maxfield Parrish's work (As was "Jim Henson's Mother Goose Stories") as well as many European storybooks.

Anyone else think of any others?

I just remembered another one-

Jean Fragonard influencing Disney's "Rapunzel". This is from when the project was going to be CGI, but I'm guessing they'll still keep it in 2D.

Hee hee...let's not forget Lisa and a random kid mocking the cover of "Life" magazine with the V-Day kiss.

On the same subject, I also had found some concept art for "The Princess and the Frog" last night with the Miyazaki-like design for Tiana and her outfits...only I can't find the site. Dammit.

Yes, but I think that a these "parodies," iffa you will, they are a not really onna the original "charter" of a your topic, no? Which, iffa the Dino, he understands a correctly, is a that of a the animation which is a based onna the style of a the certain artists who dinna actually conna'tribute to a the production itself, no?

Like a for example, you canna count a Disney's Atlantis, a 'cos a while it is based onna the style of a the Mike Mignola, it was a the Mignola who was actually a the production designer, no?

That's amazing. I wish we had insight into all the little things like this that happen in cartoons and film that we never know about. I enjoy watching the commentaries on DVDs when they share these neat little tid-bits with us.

This is so genious. Love this thread already. I believe I've read a while ago on cartoonbrew that Lasseter was all for keeping Rapunzel CGI because Keane used the technique to realy tell a story and explore the creative possibilities of the medium to visualise it. Unlike some other CG disney projects that where only CGI because of the popular culture marketing behind it. It's gonna be very unique in execution.

3D yet not 3Dish

Been a while since I read it so perhaps they are back in full 2d with this one as well. Nonetheless, can't wait for this film!
