Batman: The Brave and The Bold

Postby Fried Gold on Fri Apr 04, 2008 12:42 pm

The new animated series is to be "Batman: The Brave and The Bold ". I think it's premiering sometime in the autumn, and has twenty-six half hour episodes greenlit.

From Cartoon Network's press conference:

It was the key announcement for the network, which...finally confirmed the rumored series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which teams the Caped Crusader with a variety of DC Comics superheroes.

....the new Batman series, whose guest stars include Green Arrow, Blue Beetle, Green Lantern and Aquaman. No clip was shown, but Rob Sorcher, Cartoon Net's chief content officer, says The Brave and the Bold will be "equal doses of comedy and high stakes."

I don't know. The fact that it looks and sounds bad might be to it's advantage. I mean, we already have some really good serious Batman stuff, so if we really hate it, don't watch it. On the other hand, if it actually is pretty funny (think Sealab 2021 meets Super Friends) there might be some good laughs at Batmans expense. Just playing devil's advocate here - I'm pretty much in the same boat as the rest of you in thinking it seems dumb.
I won't judge it until I've seen an episode.

It looks like the new Hispanic Teen Blue Beetle, rather than the Ted Kord version.

Reminds me of Hasbro's Marvel Super Hero Squad figures. The ones for, like, 2 to 5 year olds.

Either that, or that godawful new Transformers series on Cartoon Network.

It turned out to be a load of pants. Steer clear of it...watch Justice League instead, it's quality.

the only full episode I"ve seen is the Plasticman/Gorilla Grodd ep, which was really disjointed

it's like they want a goofy look/animation style with elments of humor (Plasticman) but with more TAS elements (Plasticman's origan)

according to the wiki entry on it, two Green Latern's (Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner) will be featured, along with Jonah Hex, which disappoints me a little if they are going to continue in this vien, I don't want a goofy ass Hal Jordan or Jonah Hex

however Booster gold and skeets (another teamup) will fit this tone

Bader though actually isn't bad as Bats

Batman: The Brave and the Bold

Wondering if anyone else had seen this. I went in hoping for something pretty good, but this is obviously written for 8-10 year olds. The greatness of Timm's series is long past.

Just watched Friday's team-up with Red Tornado and feel pretty confident in saying that I never need to see this show again. I don't mind the Adam West-era design scheme and realize that the show is aimed at a younger audience but the show lost with me the robot trying to get some Christmas spirit and Batman opening a gift of a coffee mug with "World's Greatest Detective" emblazoned on it.

From CA:
'Bat-Manga' Comics Created for 'Batman: The Brave and the Bold' Are the Best Thing
Chris Sims wrote:
Chip Kidd's collection of Jiro Kuwata's Japanese Batman stories from the '60s was one of my favorite collections in recent memory, so it goes without saying that I was pretty excited about a Bat-Manga-inspired segment featured on an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. But one of the things I barely noticed about the episode was a transition that involved pages of Kuwata's comics flipping by before the animation started. Or at least, that's what I thought it was.

As it turns out, that wasn't the case: The Bat-Manga pages that went by so fast on TV were actually recreations drawn by BATB director Ben Jones, and they're pretty fantastic.

In a post at his blog about how animation can often be "a lot of work for very little reward," Jones talks about why he created his pages, modeled after the incredible story of Lord Death Man:
By way of example, lets consider a sequence from Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases! As a transition from Bat-Mite's lair to the manga section of the show, we had to come up with a few fake pages of a Japanese Batman comic, based on the old comics by Jiro Kuwata. Legal wouldn't let us just use scans from the originals, so we had to cobble together some fakes, made to look enough like Jiro Kuwata's art to be recognizable, but not enough to exact duplicates of the original.

To solve his problem, Jones spent the next few weeks penciling and inking a six-page sequence that was then colored by Craig Cuqro, "aged" by Bill Dunn, and wrapped up in a similarly Kuwata-esque "cover" by Lynell Forestall, plus dialogue translated by Toshi Hiruma.
