Favourite Simpsons Movie Parody

Postby Seppuku on Wed May 14, 2008 12:57 pm

From the Movie Gods thread:

TonyWilson wrote:Rear Window burns in hell, I'm afraid, if only because without it we wouldn't have had to suffer Disturbia.

....

Ah, but then I've just thought - no Rear Window = no awesome Simpsons parody.

This one is tougher than it first looked.

I know Matt Groening has said that The Simpsons could probably stage a shot-for-shot remake of both Citizen Kane and The Godfather Part II with all the "references" they've made to them over the years.

Me, I'll go with The Shinning!

I enjoyed the Mad Mad Mad MAd World parody in the episode featuring Sam Neill as the elderly cat burgular thought the Godfather tollbooth scene with Cletus etc was hilarious.

There was a brief and funny one based on "The Muppets Take Manhattan" where the townspeople skate on butter pats to grease up a giant skillet. Much like the rats who work at Pete's Diner.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing at the end of the episode where Bart and Nelson become best friends. Bart opens his closet door and there's his shirt wrapped in Nelson's vest, hanging on the back of the door. Then that damn guitar riff plays. I couldn't believe it.

I like the really random ones that most people probably aren't even aware are parodies at all:- like the parody of the Roy Scheider film, Sorcerer, in Mr Plow, when Homer goes across that icy mountain to rescue Barney, and he has to cross a seriously rickety bridge in his giant plowmobile. What makes it so good is the awesome Tangerine Dream-style soundtrack they've got playing in the background.

crikey, too damn many to even begin listing 'em...

Terror at 5 1/2 Feet does a nifty take on both the Shatner/Lithgow freakout on the plane from the Twilight Zone eppy and the film.

The Birds homage in the Oh, Streetcar eppy is hilarious...ditto The Great Escape homage from that very same episode.

here is a subject I'll just sit back and watch, 'cuz I can list a boatload of fucktons of them...
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

The one with the water balloon attack on Nelson? Masterful.

I second the Cape Fear and Raiders of the Lost Ark parodies. The latter is short, but it absolutely nails every great aspect of the original scene.

Would Bart making Sideshow Bob sing the soundtrack to 'HMS Pinafore' on the deck of his boat count?

I love how Bart strokes his chin right before he takes the jar. It's all in the details.

I was gonna mention that too...
It is quite spot on...

I only wish they could've found some way to work in the "switching the items" moment when he grabs the chain jar...otherwise...brilliant...

I was gonna mention that. "The De-Bart-ed" (haw haw), it was called. I didn't really like the episode because even in the flexible cartoon logic that "The Simpsons" inhabits, the analogy (Skinner sending a "good student" into crime lord Bart's "gang" to "bring him down") didn't make much sense. Although there were a couple moments in there that made me laugh, like at the end where Ralph points at the rat crossing the screen and says "The rat's a metaphor!"

I'll always love the Pulp Fiction parody.
I almost passed out from laughing so hard when it debuted ('97?).
Good stuff.
