From THR:
Cartoon Network reviving 'ThunderCats'
James Hibberd wrote:Cartoon Network has commissioned a new version of 1980s animated series "ThunderCats" from Warner Bros. Animation.

The update will combine swords and science with high-stakes battles as good and evil clash for the Stones of Power. The announcement comes on the heels of Cartoon Net announcing the development of another iconic action title, "Green Lantern."

WBA will partner on the project with Studio 4C, a Japanese animation studio whose credits include "The Animatrix" and "Gotham Knights."

"In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation's first anime series, 'ThunderCats' marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy," said Sam Register, executive vp creative affairs at WBA. "The realism and dynamic visual style we've achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience."

"ThunderCats" will mark the latest WBA series on Cartoon Network, joining "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" and the upcoming "The Looney Tunes Show," "MAD," "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated" and "Young Justice."

From Variety:
Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. revive 80s toon "ThunderCats"
Michael Schneider wrote:Children of the 1980s, Warner Bros. Animation is reviving a key piece of your cartoon past: "ThunderCats" is making a return, this time on Cartoon Network.

"ThunderCats" is part of a big animated revival taking place at Warner Bros. Animation, which is also behind “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” as well as the upcoming “The Looney Tunes Show,” “MAD,” “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and “Young Justice.”

This time around, "ThunderCats" will sport a heavy anime look, thanks to Warner Bros. Animation's collaboration with Japan's Studio4°C ("The Animatrix").

“In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation’s first anime series, ‘ThunderCats’ marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy,” said Sam Register, exec VP of creative affairs at Warner Bros. Animation. “The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience.”

Here's what Warner Bros. Animation has to say about the revival:
Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.

Register is exec producer, while Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) will produce.

Panthro is bigger and rockin' the chops, but Lion-O's design seems to hint at a probable divergence from the original story.
Wherein the classic series Lion-O was an adolescent in a man's body thanks to a malfunctioning sleep cell, here he appears to simply be a young cat-person thing.
Cheetara also looks younger so I'm guessing she'll be more love interest than mentor.

How's that for lame over-analysis?

Pretty good. Cheetara looks like she needs to eat a few burgers, and let out about 20cc of saline from each breast. And the makeup around her eyes makes her look like a bulemic Emo cutter chick.

I'll give it a go, however, as a former Thundercats cartoon watcher, I owe it that much. And WHERE IS SNARF????

Cyriaque Lamar wrote:Test footage from the upcoming Thundercats series has leaked. Check out a less than regal Lion-O messing around with the Sword of Omens and an ambush from the villainous Slithe. Between this footage and the series' Pokémony take on the once loquacious Snarf, how are you feeling about this? I had already liked what we'd seen from the early promo images, but seeing some of the animation everything looks pretty great. While I still prefer the original Lion-O design, every other visual aspect of this version looks like an improvement over the original. Also it seems like the story takes place on a larger scale, I'm even getting a sense of feudal Japan from the tone of that trailer. A neat cultural connection, or just "Dat's Racist!" on my part?

Sweet Merciful Jesus!

What a fucking show!

Do yourself a favor, find anyway right now to watch this first episode and do it now. This new Thundercats is the blueprint of how to update classic shows of the 80's. Everything about the pilot episode reeked of epic win. The voice acting, the animation, the story! Cats get fucking shank'd in this shit! Seriously, not since Avatar the Last Airbender have I been blown away by a animated series. If the story keeps up this way, Thundercats the relaunch will go down as hands down one of the greatest CN shows and possibly one of the best animated series of all time.

Fuck! I'm Jazzed. I feel like I could punch an killer whale right now!

Whole heartedly agree.

I was literally going to come here and just post EPIC WIN because it's just brilliant.

Anyone notice how Lion-O's dad is actually the original Lion-o?

Everything about the reboot is pretty faultless. There's more depth to the characters and they did good build more levels of story into each seperate person.

Fucking mega!

Is it just me, or did it seem at times like they were hinting at these thundercats being descendants of the 80's thundercats? A few things in the plot seemed to negate that, but then something else would be said that seemed to lean back in that direction.

The easter eggs were glorious as well. The Ro-Bear Berbil hand in the junk shop, Lion-O's dad voiced by the original Lion-O... Just a whole lot of fun. And rumor is the Silverhawks will be making a cameo or somehow joining the show.
