Really, I'd probably put it in my 10 if I hadn't given up on lists because I never put down what I want to (despite starting about 10 list threads in my time, including this one).
So many favourite scenes. I once visited my ex's family and it made Sid's visit seem easy-going by comparison.
EDIT: Also, don't listen to Peven, he started this thread, so what does he know?
haha but Peven has a point! punk, like pretty much any rock movement that aims to be a "movement", has all kinds of pretensions attached to it. i read a very insightful book about the place of the artist in music, and they had one essay in particular on John Lydon, Sid Vicious, and the Sex Pistols- all about the raison d'etre of punk and each Pistols' member's take on it- for Sid, it was a very literal anarchy for the sake of anarchy sort of ethos with all the theatrical self destruction that it implied, whereas for john lydon it was more of an ironic kind of statement with a strong political undercurrent.
of course all that is completely irrelevant to me when i watch the movie. that's just a fucking good piece of cinema right there. (the scene when sid and nancy kiss in the alley with garbage raining down on them in slow mo? ooooooorrrrgasssmmmmmm!!!!)
