Really, I'd probably put it in my 10 if I hadn't given up on lists because I never put down what I want to (despite starting about 10 list threads in my time, including this one).

So many favourite scenes. I once visited my ex's family and it made Sid's visit seem easy-going by comparison.

EDIT: Also, don't listen to Peven, he started this thread, so what does he know?

haha but Peven has a point! punk, like pretty much any rock movement that aims to be a "movement", has all kinds of pretensions attached to it. i read a very insightful book about the place of the artist in music, and they had one essay in particular on John Lydon, Sid Vicious, and the Sex Pistols- all about the raison d'etre of punk and each Pistols' member's take on it- for Sid, it was a very literal anarchy for the sake of anarchy sort of ethos with all the theatrical self destruction that it implied, whereas for john lydon it was more of an ironic kind of statement with a strong political undercurrent.
of course all that is completely irrelevant to me when i watch the movie. that's just a fucking good piece of cinema right there. (the scene when sid and nancy kiss in the alley with garbage raining down on them in slow mo? ooooooorrrrgasssmmmmmm!!!!)

I always thought it was all so typical when Sid phones nancy up to express his undying eternal love for her by saying 'I wanna give you a BUNK UUUUPP!!!!!' Terrible! In a totally brilliant way!

You all have made me wanna see Sid and Nancy again.

It's been ages since I've seen this flick. Same with Harold and Maude - another great film.

Hmm...really? Eeeenteresteeeng. Well I can't speak for females as a group, but for me personally there was just something so lyrical about that shot- the way Sid stands on his toes kissing Nancy who leans casually against the garbage, holding both her hands...their posture recalls the innocence of schoolchildren kissing in some dark corner of the playground, while their surroundings are so strikingly, well...shitty. I guess I've always felt it sort of implies that love can be found anywhere. I'm a sucker for romance, I guess

[Just don't tell anyone...]

i have this poster hanging on my bedroom wall actually...

Liberals kill the cow to reduce methane emissions. Commies kill the cow to divide it amongst the starving masses for food. Hippies....smoke the cow.

Thanks Maui! For some reason I've developed a habit of channelling Bill O'Reilly since I left. I'm getting a little concerned.

Yes, I can see how that would be rather troublesome.

Muthafucka.
The last time I smoked a muthafuckin' cow I woke up and was starring in Destiny Turns on the Radio.

It means they want to generate discussion and perhaps controversy, resulting in higher sales of whatever the fuck they are selling.

Which is fine to do. I don't generally care about these polls because of my limited knowledge of film, especially foreign or just plain old (I'm looking at you, The Passion of Joan of Arc). And I definetly don't care about any film poll that leaves The Godfather I/II out of the top ten.

They aren't counted together as a property this time so I imagine a split between the votes for each is responsible.

In 20 years all the "top critics" will be comic con fanboys with internet blogs and so SCOTT PILGRIM VERSUS THE WORLD will top the list as greatest film of all time.
