Wasn't there supposed to be a "Pride and Predator" combining Predators with Jane Austen?

And yes, Neil Marshall is (potentially) cool, assuming he can keep his quirks in check.

If it's The Descent and bits of Dog Soldiers Neil Marshall - good.

If it's Doomsday and bits of Dog Soldiers Neil Marshall - not good.

Kontroll is a great film. I cannot explain the logic behind Nimrod's choices of scripts during his Hollywood sell-out phase, but I know he is a great filmmaker because I have seen Kontroll and it is Oleg perfection.

Nimrod Antal would be a very interesting choice. This movie would go from me not wanting to see it all to probably about 80% wanting to see. Kontroll is indeed awesome, and even though Vacancy was kind of generic slasher fare, he squeezed every last drop of tension out of that thing. I'd really love to see what he could do with a big-budget movie like this.

Here is a preliminary discussiong with Rob Rod on Predators:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41590

He seems to believe deeply in this project and in Nimrod and they are going in the right direction by focussing on developing good human characters.

I would love a totally grab-bag cast of people you wouldn't always see together in a movie. I'd love to see Vin Diesel in this and would like it if he brought along Michelle Rodriguez. I like seeing them together in the Fast & Furious movies. I'd love it if the cast then went with one older more established guy like Snipes and then some wonky choices like Daniel Radcliffe and maybe through in Tom Sizemore on steroids or something.

In the interview Rob Rod hints at the group of humans not exactly getting along and resulting in some Romero style infighting, so he'll probably want a group of strong characters to bring up conflicts with.

I would cast Nicole Sullivan, Mos Def, Dwayne Johnson, Diedrich Bader, Michelle Rodriguez, Martin Sheen and David Duchovny.

Yes, I'm pretty much only throwing names into the ring without thinking , but I would cast them. (Which is one of the main reasons why I will never produce a Predator movie)

I think Michelle Rodriguez is the closest thing we have these days to a true lady badass. Which is kind of sad really. I like Michelle but for me she doesn't quite compare to people like Sigourney, Linda Hamilton, or Jeanette Goldstein. But she'd still be good.

Maybe it's because I've been inspired by the Hurt Locker but I wouldn't at all mind seeing David Morse, Guy Pearce, and this Jeremy Renner guy. All men on a mission but each with a completely distinct personality.

Elektra aside, I still think Jennifer Garner has the physical prowess to pull off action-lady roles.

From HitFix:
Drew McWeeny wrote:Latino Review broke the news that Nimrod Antal will be directing "Predators," and AICN just interviewed Robert Rodriguez about the choice.
Devin Faraci... he's not so sure.

Confession time: I actually met with Robert during the "hire a writer" part of the "Predators" process, and my partner and I wrote a treatment for how we'd do it. Alex Litvak ended up getting the gig, but just from the conversations we had with Robert, I'd say his enthusiasm for the film is everything you could ever ask of a producer. Does that mean this absolutely will reinvent the franchise? No. But it won't be for lack of trying, and I honestly do think there's a chance this will escape some of the manhandling that usually occurs with Fox franchise pictures.

I'm rather ashamed to say I had to imdb Cynthia Rothrock and I don't think I've seen any of her films. It's a situation I will rectify soon, I hope

And Jennifer Garner definitely has the physicality to pull off that kind of role but I don't think she has the attitude. Even as Sydney Bristow her natural sweetness verges on dopey-ness for me. Or, at the least, dorkiness. Which is why I like her, but I don't think she's a real badass.

Michelle Yeoh is always good for a little asskicking. She is badass, if she wants to be.
I like the Jeremy Renner idea, I liked his gigs in 28 weeks later and in SWAT. I hope Hurt Locker does well enough for people to take notice...

I disagree with you guys saying Michelle Rodriguez is not up to the standard of 80s action women like Linda Hamilton or Sig Weaver. Michelle has not had the benefit of working with anybody as talented as James Cameron or Ridley Scott yet or in a movie on that level. I'm probably the biggest fan of the Fast & Furious movies there is, but I'll admit that they aren't action epics. They're cool mid-budget car movies. And they're all about Diesel, she's a supporting a character.

But if you watch GIRLFIGHT she can really act. I feel she's an actor very much like Stallone. She'll always be limited by her voice and face to playing macho working class types. She's done a pretty good job seeking out roles she can handle but just hasn't found those roles in a project that would really let her break through to the next level.

But if GIRLFIGHT was her ROCKY, she has yet to find her RAMBO. I could very easily see her doing all the same kinds of movies Stallone did. Fuck, if they want to remake COBRA with her in the title role I'd see it right now.

They wanted to cast her as the next XXX in part three. But since Vin is coming back as Xander, I think Michelle is out. That could have been her big action movie break.

I'd see Cobra sequel/remake with Michelle in the title role...maybe go the Shaft route and she's Coberitti's daughter

on the subject of Cobra it still boggles my mind that THAT movie was born out of Beverly Hills Cop

.... aaaaaand no one's even talked about this - why? Poor ol' Butcher has been out collecting scoops for you guys and considering this is Predators I thought you guys would be all over this! Out of desperation or a bit of movie news I checked this review out. Hmmmm.... what to think? I wonder if it's new or revelationary stuff enough to warrant this new film. I feel a lot of this we've seen before, and some we haven't. Toughest most badasses men and women in the Predator's home planet jungle being chased by Predators, Predator hawk and dogs, then SUPER PREDATORS that are meant to be even more terrifying than the ones we've seen before, sort of like a Predator x 10 by the sounds of it. So Predators using humans as hunting game in a jungle theme. OK, so there's some different stuff or creatures we've seen here before, bu at the end of the day it's still humans being hunted in a Jungle. So it's not totally fresh for me.

The script review only reveals so much of a 90 minute script, and I hope that it goes further than the jungle to set the action in the Predator's technology, their city, etc, show more of the Predator's character and culture. Show something more different. Don't just give us a Predator mutt!

So... interested, but mostly to see if there's more newer stuff.

I totally agree with you, it'll be interesting if the Predators go for an almost political angle as to why the humans are there.

The idea of Hawks and Dogs bugs me, I think it's giving them that human-ish edge to hunting. As for the United Colors of Benetton being hunted by the Predators....I personally hope that that isn't a big thing and more so that they are bad ass.

Still, it'll be interesting. That latino reivew has some good footage going over the top which got my intrigued.

I totally agree with you, it'll be interesting if the Predators go for an almost political angle as to why the humans are there.

See I'm down with all this, what will make this movie redeeming and stand out is if we see more of these creatures' character and culture, we find out what makes them tick, apart from seeing a flashback of them getting beaten up in their pram by their Xenemorph stepdad! So please, don't just bullshit us with more action action action, that won't work alone, I want more philosophising on these so called tough martherfarkers. And in just 90 minutes, I don't think there's much room for this.

There wasn't in Aliens. That was longer that 90 minutes, and to be honest, it seems to be the running trend that the poorer films get 90 minutes if Hollywood doesn't care about them.

From Variety:
Brody Leads "Predators" Team for Fox
Mike Fleming wrote:n a surprise development, Adrien Brody has been set by 20th Century Fox to play the heroic mercenary who battles alien hunters in “Predators,” a reboot of the “Predator” franchise that is being creatively spearheaded by Robert Rodriguez.

Brody will star with Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Louiz Ozawa.

Brody_fleming Nimrod Antal is directing a film that is about to get underway on location in Hawaii and at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.

Fox has set the film for release July 9, 2010.

Best known for his Oscar-winning turn in the Roman Polanski-directed “The Pianist,” Brody has an opportunity to reinvent himself as a flat out action hero, playing a character close to the one that Arnold Schwarzenegger portrayed in the 1987 original.

Brody and his Paradigm reps lobbied hard for the role. Fox has high hopes to spring a new franchise, and Brody has signed options to return for future installments, sources said.

Contrary to some of the opinion in here, I don't really want to know jack shit about the Predator's politics and homeland and shit. I want to keep him/them an enigma. It's like explaining why Hannibal Lector eats people or Michael Myers is an unstoppable killing machine. Who cares!? It's scarier if you don't know.

I like it!
Adrien Brody is a good actor and the anti type casting works well enough for me. Finally a Oscar winner takes on a Predator.
He cant be anymore clumsy then Glover in part 2.
The rest of the crew seems to be okay too. and they have a OLEG, so the movie gets a free pass anyway.

Worser news I could not imagine. The nerdiest actor in Hollywood in a remake of one of the manliest movies ever.
Maybe they can convince Bill Gates to play the helicopter pilot and Stephen Hawkings as the General.
