I wear glasses and wearing the 3-D specs over them can be annoying after a while. It adds weight to the bridge of the nose and it also never lines up properly over my specs. I'm constantly fidgeting with them. So for me to willingly go to a 3-D movie, it has to be something I really want to see. I thought about getting contacts, but I get freaked out at the idea of something touching my eye, so I continue to go without.

These Downfall parodies are all brilliant and hilarious (seen the Indy 4 one?), this one included, but I find that Hitler's turn to the dark side a bit sudden in that he starts slagging off the film that he had hopes for, just because his men tell him that the trailer isn't any good. It seems he takes their word for it a bit abruptly and too completely.

Discriminate who and whatever you want. it's just that ANY joke with fake subtitles isn't working if you understand the real text and that there are a million of these "Hitler learns about..." clips outthere, and it's always the same joke without variation. I t just became old one or two years ago.

Yeah, I saw Inglourious Basterds today and saw this trailer and found it pretty shitty. I know they use clips from movies that haven't been finished yet, but man, that CGI did not look any better than any other movie I've seen in the last five years and nowhere near as good as Disctrict 9.

I'll see this, like Hitler, I am trying to remain optimistic.

I think if you go in to this expecting a really cool 3-D animated movie then you will be probably be pleased, but if you expect to be dazzled by a revolutionary new way to experience film the way Cameron and his team have hyped it....I think you will be disappointed

I'm reserving judgment until a more detailed trailer comes out. The one we got was but a tease and the majority of people who saw the 16 minutes of footage really liked it. So obviously there's a disconnect somewhere.

But did they dig it just because they were part of the "experience"? I tend to think that people who are part of the pre-hype (consider knowles vs. american godzilla) are just too excited to be a part of something to be honest critics of what they saw.

It's impossible to know without having seen what they saw. The movie also had favorable buzz coming out of Comic Con where some footage was screened. So I'm thinking there's more to it than what we've seen and Fox just put out a lackluster trailer. If the next trailer doesn't ignite widespread interest, well, then maybe there's a problem.

I'm telling you guys, if the 15-minute preview is any indication, this movie will just be an effects showcase. Story, dialogue and acting seem to be sub-par.

That's what I believe since I saw the 16 minute preview.

I knew next to nothing about the film when I saw the preview so I was pretty fresh. I do think there are people getting swept up in the hype because they want to. It's like the geek version of a group of girls waiting for a pop star, one screams and in increasing circles it ripples out across the whole group of fans.

Plus, guys, it's Sam Worthington in ANOTHER lead role, and we all know what happened the first time - he made Bale go bad.

Sam Worthington is just a freaking, CHAV in a skirt!

But I think that this preview was just to show you the effects part of the movie and that Cameron is leaving the REAL parts that make up this dazzling film, the story and acting and characterisations, to later. Get the superficial stuff out of the way, see what you think, then after this 'tease' he'll go WHAMMY!!!! And show you what the REAL movie is all about. He knows the game he's playing, and you're all playing and falling for it.

Pershonally I think you're all jusht a bucnh of bloody idiotsh.

And if that were the point, it still wasn't spooge worthy. 3D still has it's faults. I would have preferred to see it in 2D really just so I could see 60% of the effects.

I'm not sure you can blame Worthington for Bale's wooden performance in Terminator Salvation or the fact that Kirk is, increasingly, a random assortment of apparently deranged and hysterical nonsense (unless Worthington does wear a skirt in this movie, in which case I apologise). Worthington is in an Australian movie from four or five years ago now called 'Somersault' where he's really very good - he's also not bad in the the croc-horror 'Rogue'. Papa's been off in the Inglourious Basterds thread suggesting that fan-boys should be excused from the conversation, but here he is, going all Bale-Back Mountain to get a few cheap shots in at one of the actors in this movie.

I saw The Final Destination yesterday in 3-D and they showed several 3-D trailers before the movie started, including one for Avatar. Seeing the trailer on the big screen and in 3-D really opened my eyes up to what kind of experience it could be. I noticed detail in the visuals I hadn't noticed before and the 3-D added interesting dimensions to the landscape. The story could still be mundane, but I think it'll still end up being a visual feast.

Avatar and Hitler

Postby Dookert on Fri Oct 23, 2009 1:06 am

Hey fellas,

Now im not really a frequenter of this website so I suppose I can't match your aptitude for speculation and industry hub-bub, but I feel that with respects to James Cameron, Avatar has been unfairly judged by many, with little to judge on . So please hear me out.

Recently I was reading a New Yorker article on Cameron,a very good one by Dana Goodyear, chronicling his life's accomplishments up to and into the production of Avatar; furthermore they mentioned Aint it Cool News' reaction to the teaser trailer release which subsequently led me to write this post. So after reading this sites duplicitous official comment on the trailer release, I figured I'd see what the forums said, thinking at least some guys and gals would be psyched by what they saw. No dice.

I guess what I have to say is this: why are 90% of you sh*tting on an entire movie, its plot, special effects, characters, setting, story, et cetera after seeing, at BEST, 15 minutes of footage? Most of you only saw the teaser, which was all of what, 3 minutes? I downloaded the 1080 version and played it on my big screen (46" LCD). It looked Great! The facial expressions of the Na'vi looked fantastic, not to mention the tiny snippet of action you really get to see. Now as far as the plot goes, just from reading the synopsis on IMDb, you can see where the movie's going but, until we see it, we really can't judge the story at all. So why has it been emptied into your collective recycling bins? Everyone has a right to an opinion but I can't really say the substance exists to write this one off. As I said before I was surprised that, from all but a few, the commentary in the forums looked like a FOX News approval poll of Obama. If you hypothetically slapped the original Terminator trailer into a blog on this site(before it came out), I can only ponder the antipathies that would come streaming out of the forums: "Boooring", "Yawwn", "Meh". It sounds so....bratish. Maybe its like Group Think syndrome or something.

And that stupid Hitler parody, based off of Downfall, that has been hijacked by every malcontent nerd across the globe....SHUUUT UP, your making my ears bleed with that pig Latin ! This played out rerun's author references Piranha 2, a low budget T&A screamer produced by ITALIANS who fired Cameron before it was even done, as a precursor to another one of his failures? Then the clip notes Xenogenesis, one of Cameron's student films in the late 70's, to further the claim? Am I getting it right? Maybe I am, maybe not. Is he saying those movies get passes or that they are indicators? Granted Dark Angel sucked balls in my opinion, but that was TV, not the theaters( I've never seen the Terminator series). The Terminator, T2, Aliens, The Abyss, they were all awesome, were they not?! Instant classics in my book. I leave off Titanic because its not Sci-Fi so it doesn't really belong here. He hasn't put out a big budget stinker, not ONE! Go to IMDb, look at who WROTE all four of the movies I just cited. Cameron. Look at who wrote Avatar, Cameron.

The histrionics continue though. The Fuhrer begins ranting about supplanting special effects for story. "Dude can I get your copy of the movie? How'd you get it, I already checked Pirate Bay!". "Whats that?"..."you've reached clairvoyance... and can even see the future!", damn I guess I'll have to wait like everyone else. Hitler goes on to say that he read the script TEN YEARS ago and that it was wishy washy. What are you...a Ri-Tard? Of course it was rain man; whatta you think he just whipped it out of the filing cabinet, blew the dust off, and slapped it on the producers desk? Go count jelly beans in a jar or something.

I guess I'm frustrated at neurotic, over reacting attention getters who have already declared its going to suck and they wont be seeing it; apparently this includes some of the guys postulating "reserved" speculation about the movie, saying they'll hold their fire until they have more frames to sh*t on, and then posting the burnt out Hitler reel. Yeah bro, your objectivity is to be admired.

For those of you who think this movie might just be cool and have not pissed all over it after seeing a 3 minute trailer, I salute you. I'm just venting towards the ignorant morons who think they're "unique" or some kind of aficionados for not being excited about a highly anticipated movie. For the cynics. Just wait til you see it. It looks cool. It looks different. Its not gloomy metalic tunnels, steam vents and slime, mirk and darkness. That sh*ts played out for Cameron. This is something new and I can't wait.

And if it does suck, you can say "I told you so", get started on your very own Hitler movie, and I'll watch it in humble silence.

Hi there.
Welcome to The Zone.

I don't think most of us here are dismissing the film.
We're dismissing the hype.
We would all love to see Cameron deliver a big Jack-in-the-box to our theaters that pops out and violates our corneas, but we aren't going to sit here pissing ourselves (most of us,anyway) in anticipation.
Even if the movie is a visual feast and game changing effects revolution, we have every right to be concerned that the story could become an afterthought. It's happened before.

As for the Downfall thing , well... it was funny.Sure it's been done to death, but that happens to every net craze.

We don't want this to be a colossal disappointment.Especially not just so we can just shout "I told you so" at everyone. We LOVE and always want MORE good movies. In short, the folks here are always going to post their honest feelings. You won't always like or agree with them, but I bet you'd have trouble finding another board with as many reasonable people as we have here. Our code is "No hate, just debate.",and we try hard to stick by it. You'll find that out if you stick around.

My apologies. Couldn't resist.

the hitler thing was funny the first 90795048701945 times, but it's a bit played out now. that said, it seems silly to take offense. after all, if anything, it's making fun of the same people you're complaining about, the ones who are dissing the film before it's even come out, by having hitler parroting their lines.

i'm not very interested in avatar. i've liked cameron's films in the past, though i wouldn't put him in my list of must-see directors. i'm not going to be automatically interested in something just because it's made by him. so my feeling toward the film is disinterest until i see or hear something that grabs my interest. the description of the story didn't grab my interest. the trailer didn't grab my interest. the effects didn't grab my interest. i'm not going to shit all over the film because i have no expectations for it to begin with, but i'm also not going to get excited for it either just because someone tells me i should be or because it gets hyped to death ahead of time.

Round of applause for that man.

I agree, I'm not falling on the hype wagon.

Titanic needed a much better script, no matter how great the film looked at the time.

I've seen the footage and wasn't thoroughly impressed. I was even less impressed with the lack of story or storytelling ability in the footage.

If he showed it for the SFX, then it failed to 95% of the audience who couldn't see it because they weren't sitting in the optimum place to view fast motion 3d. When you can't see the film very well you try to concentrate on the story, but we were left short.

And to be honest, the more people hype this, the less I really want to see it. If I want graphics I can just sit in front of my computer and actually BE emersed in world under my control like Fallout 3.
