Makers of the upcoming James Bond movie "Casino Royale" have cast little-known French actress Eva Green as the next femme fatale to pair up with British agent 007.

This movie really has no star power and I think it will bomb compared to previous films.

i don't know what to think about this Bond movie...
you're right about no star power (at least in the states), but it should still do well at the BO.
are they going for a more 'gritty' realsitic Bond this time around?

PostPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2006 11:55 am
by havocSchultz
but if you think about it - most of the bond films - at least whenever they got a new bond - didn't really have much star power - pierce wasn't a huge name before goldeneye - and what about moore and dalton - it seems that it is usually bond that makes these people stars - the name bond draws them in - not usually who's playing him - at least IMO...but who knows... i'm not a huge martin campbell fan - but i do believe GoldenEye was probably the best of the Bronsan bonds - and at least they're kinda going back to bond's roots by adapting it from a book - even though they seemed to have changed baccarat to texas hold 'em...

by jgraphix
hehe..yeah, that whole poker thing is so lame.

I really don't think that it will do well in the states...Unless the trailers are kick ass and it draws people on that basis alone, but I don't think that the actors will drive the BO numbers in the states.

You guys are batshit if you don't think this will do well. It's James Bond. The last movie wasn't worth my sweet corn, but it made more money than any other Bond film. People will see this BECAUSE it's a new Bond. Seems people love that shit.

Also, I have never read the book, but I don't see how changing something from baccarat to poker makes that big of a difference. And, Havoc, you are kind of right about the star thing. Moore and Brosnan were VERY recognizeable people before they signed on... just just weren't movie stars.

Also, who cares if it doesn't have any big stars? Isn't that what we geeks always hope for? I don't know how many times I have read, "oh I hope they go with an unknown for _________ ". The fact that Jeffrey Wright has signed on to this leads me to believe that the script must be pretty good because so far the guy has been GREAT at picking parts.

True..I do love when they cast unknowns that turn out to be hidden gems...all I'm saying is that the majority of idiot suburban americans wont go because they don't know any of the actors...

Exactly. F'n Bond kicks ass and I'll go see it no matter who plays Bond, the girl, or the bad guys.

Well I guess you must work in the industry. SUIT! Seriously, I just don't by that. First, idiot suburban americans as an archetype doesn't exist in the numbers the Hollywood Marketing Machine would have you to believe, and second, people will go and see a good film as long as its marketed well. Hell, the first Matrix wasn't marketed with shit and only had one MODERATELY bankable lead, and it did great!

And idiot suburban americans watched BBC's The Saint and knew who Roger Moore was? Or saw Timothy Daltry in anything but Flash Gordon?

I think they should have waited a few more years. The last few were so dissapointing that there seems to be no interest in this movie. People will see it and it will make lots of money, but there should be so much more interest in a new James Bond.

No Star Power???

Halle Berry and Denise Richards aren't really what I would call stars, Sean Bean? Robert Carlyle? Robbie Coltraine? Sorry but Bond creates Stars out of it's leads and sometimes it's Bond Women like say Famke Jansen, this girl from the Dreamers is a fantastic actress which shows that the backlash they recieved critically from the abysmal Die another day has been listened too, this cast is looking fantastic and your complaining there aren't enough stars? go and watch you ballroom dancing show if you want stars.

ETA: Yes Berry is a star but she's a pretty shitty one and ruined the last film.

eva green is fantastic - and i hope nobody judges her performance on the abyssmal theatrical cut of Kingdom of heaven - apparentely she actually shines quite a bit in the ridley cut... oh... and The Dreamers...............sorry - i faded away there for a second... but i agree with you Locke... this might be actually the first Bond i see in theatres since GoldenEye... i've hated and loathed and damn near wretched upon every single one after that - the next one always more than the previous...so at least they're finally trying to do something different - and i love Craig as bond...

I've seen the film buddy or are they not from the Dreamers? She's nekkid for about half the film if anyone hasn't seen it, it's okay but despite the nudity it's not as good as some people make out IMO, actually too much nudity and not enough story for me, it does it have it's moments though.

ya - they were just screen caps from the film - i think the film was just a reason to show her naked - and for a soft-core film - it's worth a gander - but that's about it - kinda the same thing with 9 songs - but i digress - but i do believe that eva green has talents - and not just the talents that are popping up all over the internet... so either way - i'm pumped about her casting...

That's dumb. SKYFALL spent the whole movie putting Moneypenny behind the desk, so now they're going to put her back in the field? Make up your fucking minds or you'll end up like those STAR TREK movies that give Kirk a son, then kill him; kill Spock, then bring him back; promote Kirk to Admiral, then demote him back to Captain; blow up the Enterprise, then build a new one.

I also don't know if Penelope Cruz is still happening or if that was just a rumor. But I'll throw in some dreamcasting thoughts.

Antje Traue
I didn't think much of MAN OF STEEL, but this sexy athletic German babe made a strong impression on me and I think she would be right at home in the Bond series.

Image

Ni Ni
I saw this actress in FLOWERS OF WAR opposite Lord Bale and thought she had a really nice old-fashioned elegance and good screen presence.

Image

Olga Kurylenko (again)
I realize QUANTUM was really unpopular, but I would like to see Olga return. I think it would be cool for Bond to need help and call on her and have her come back as somebody he knows he can depend on, maybe even for a small role, like an extended cameo. I know in the Brosnan era they planned to have Michelle Yeoh come back to help out Bond in a cameo in DIE ANOTHER DAY (obviously didn't happen), and I liked that idea a lot.

Roger Deakins won't be shooting the next Bond film. I don't know why.

Honestly, I don't think Sam Mendes brings anything to a movie OTHER than Roger Deakins so I find this pretty annoying since they delayed this movie to fit Mendes's schedule.

10 Contemporary Cinematographers You Should Know
Jason Bailey wrote:Movie lovers around the world were saddened last week by news of the death of Harris Savides, the acclaimed cinematographer best known for his collaborations with Gus Van Sant (on Milk, Elephant, Gerry, Last Days, Restless, and Finding Forrester), but whose credits also included Zodiac, The Game, Somewhere, American Gangster, Whatever Works, and Birth. Savides was a true artist, one who brought a distinctive eye and sense of craft to his work, and merged his unique sensibility with the directors he collaborated with. But the cinematographer is often an underappreciated and overlooked part of the filmmaking process, their gifts and style too often solely attributed to their directors.

In an attempt to acknowledge some of the other true artists in Savides’ field, we put together a brief survey of some of the most important working cinematographers today; in the interest of keeping it manageable, we’ve confined ourselves to those who work primarily in American film, and those who are still prolific in the industry.

BAD:
Has BOND 24’s Script Been Completely Overhauled?
Phil Nobile Jr wrote:Remember when we talked about how Bond 24 was being pushed to December so longtime 007 screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade could “punch up” the script, and we thought it was kind of weird that a mere dialogue polish would push the schedule back so significantly? Well now Daily Mail Bond Boy Baz Bamigboye is saying the rewrites were maybe a bigger overhaul than initially suggested, his sources going so far as to say the new script is “substantially different” than John Logan’s draft, and that Logan’s work has been “politely moved aside.” Yikes! (And yes, we know it's the Daily Mail, but Bamigboye has a reputation for being on point with this stuff, so for now we'll give the benefit of the doubt.)
