So I bought X3 today, tempted by all those deleted scenes and alternate endings. Surely, I thought, they would add in Angel's action scenes? More Cyclops? Motivation for Dark Phoenix to join Magneto? Wolverine's magical pants finally come off in the skin-tearing finale?

It is the biggest rip off ever and clear proof that Ratner is a big moron. All the deleted scenes are nothing more than really stupid alternate takes--the Juggy version screams to mind. The alternate endings are nonsensical scenes, such as Wolverine returning to Canada and ordering a beer.

I'm so glad I didn't spend the money on the deluxe Wal-Mart collector edition. Perhaps their double-dip collector edition due later on will contain all the cool missing stuff, but I doubt it. I think it will just be discs of Ratner talking about how awesome he is. He's got enough of my money already with X3, so I'm glad I just went with the el-cheapo version.

Ratner didn't write it, he directed it in six months. Considering the juggernaut that was X3 was already out of control by the time I got on board, is it fair to call him a moron for things out of his hands? ;)

I personally thought X-Men 3 was a solid, fun blockbuster. That it didn't have the character depth of Singer's work shows how far comic book movies have come since the days of Batman And Robin.
I don't get this hatred of Brett Ratner. Granted, the man has never made Citizen Kane, but neither is he McG either. He's brought in and does a decent job.
The fact is no comic book film could ever be perfect- there were plenty of bitchings about the first X-Men movie (though people are right about the rushed ending) and how many people thought Alan Cumming would be such a good Nightcrawler (my fave!)?
My only gripe with X-Men 3 is it needed to be a bit longer, esp. the scenes with Beast (good to add political intrigue to the mix)

X3 Movie/DVD Review

X-Men 3 is a movie that I hold close to my heart. When I interned at Marvel Studios, I spent a great deal of time working on pre-production for the film. It was my first Hollywood movie I actually had something to do with, so to say that I feel attached to the film is an understatement. While Avi Arad and Kevin Feige went after a new director, Jason Miller, myself and two other interns spend hours in comic geek heaven compiling artist renderings, storylines, character profiles, uses of powers, tossing around story ideas about everything and anything X-Men. However, with the return of my all-time favorite character Hal Jordan and the announcement of a Superman movie, my attention shifted drastically from Marvel to DC.
That aside X3: The Last Stand did a fantastic job at the box office amidst doubts over Brett Rattner’s ability to follow Bryan Singer and rumblings that the film could not live up to the previous two. Looking back at the comic book franchise, there haven’t been any #3’s that have been as good as or better than the first 2. Spider-Man 3 may be the first to break this “curse,â€

If you see the endless alternate takes, you'll agree with me.

I'll forgive him for the storyline (and I didn't hate X3, not really) but those "deleted scenes" are just ridiculous.

SPOILER ALERT!

Kp- "Doesn't pose a threat?" She kills off Xavier, what more of a threat do you need? While not a perfectly realised character, you couldn't do the full on space saga stuff.

This is why Fantastic 4 2 (How does that work?) doesn't fill me with glee either. The age of the Marvel crossover films has begun.

There is a relatively plausible connection between the cosmic energy that created the FF and the cosmic energy of SS & Galactus.

Then again FF is a much fluffier franchise. Adding another premise (like aliens) is not so bad.

Meh- it starts off "fluffier", then the rubber nipples come back.

Let's see- a big man in a purple helmet who eats planets. It had better be Brian Blessed or I'm taking my ball home.

I think Xavier lets himself go and you know he's not dead, especially following the credits. I mentioned that I know they couldn't do the space saga... didnt I?

You did, and you're probably also aware (being on the project) that Matthew Vaughan was slated to direct and dropped out. It's a delay which is felt on screen. Then again, if you see the first X-Men again you'll probably similar rips at the seams too.

The two script writers themselves though have been quoted as wanted to do the whole Phoenix thing, so it was not a go at you.

I don't hate Ratner. Nor do I blame him for the less than stellar quality of X3. I honestly believe he did the best he could in the time he had and the fact the movie isn't a steaming pile of shit (despite all of Fox's best efforts) is a testament to the talent Ratner has.

But the script did have problems, the editing was iffy on occasion, and the film was more concerned with spectacle than character. I would have loved to have seen Singer's X3 done properly. Hell, I'd love to have seen Ratner's X3 with another 6 months to tweak the script and do post.

That is the problem. Mind you, it's not as bad as The Mummy Returns, where they clearly got their kid to draw The Rock and put it on top of the scorpion they couldn't be arsed to finish.

You know what - I may be the last person on earth to get this, I feel such a douche. I was watching X2 last night on TV and noticed that during the bit when Cyclops is being controlled and blasts Jean Grey, the energy/power of the blast activates the Phoenix.

Shortly afterwards, when Cyclops, all good again, is helping her to her feet - she looks up and says "something is wrong".

Now, previously I had always thought she had detected the dam breaking, or perhaps even Magneto's shenanigans. But what also works is if THAT is the first time she becomes aware of the Phoenix entity - she is actually talking about herself.

And so finally I understand why she had to stand outside the jet - she was killing herself before The Phoenix took over control completely.

Can someone help me on this one? I got the X Men boxed set which includes the X3 version that says on the BOX '22 DELETED SCENES'. Yet I count about 11 only on Disk 1. Plus instead of 3 alternate endings, I only can find 2 on the Menu also. Are they anywhere secret to be found? - And Fuck the Easter Egg shite, I hate having to search through and through on a DVD to find this hidden shit.

Anyone out there who can help?

Hmm, well that page is all very well and good, but what I need is to figure out a fucking way that Fox can get that Last Stand Disc 1 with the 21/22/whatever deleted scenes to me. I just turned my back on you Zoners who rejected my plea for help and went over to Superherohype who basically told me that there was an actual MISTAKE by Fox, who packaged the 11 Deleted Scene Disk into the DVD boxes that said '22 Deleted Scenes'.

For all other people who have made this mistake or those who weren't aware of it until now, go and do like a dog cocking it's leg up at it's previous owner and running off with a new one, and sod the Zone off and instead, go over to http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252063&page=1 and check it out.

I just did, and now, Man am I Mad!!!!!!!!

Right now, I gotta deal with what I DID see on the deleted scene list so far, and try to get over my shock and heartbreak of seeing SPOILERS... Ellen Page actually give Iceman a peck on the lips in the ice skating scene.

Actually, you might want to change that last part too...

No the difference is that Marvel is making them and DC is barely putting anything out. That and Marvel is making a hell of alot more money on their movies.
