I have intentionally limited my exposure to this outside the trailer, and a few pictures. I have no idea, but this isn't clicking for me. I'll need to see a real trailer, and soon, to make any real sense of this. Superman in handcuffs and being watched by Seal Team Six is an odd way to go for sure. Plus the costume is a bit of a head scratcher. I have a bad feeling that this will bomb terribly and take the Justice League movie with it.

I agree with Al Shut in saying that of all the trailers for big 2013 event movies released in the last week or so (AFTER EARTH, OBLIVION, THE LONE RANGER, STAR TREK IN 2 DARKNESS) this trailer does the best job of feeling epic.

I'm reading the talkback for the trailer for some reason and people are still whining about the John Williams theme.

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS.

He is a fucking nearly invincible alien! He has no reason to mope. And even if he had, do we really need another "waah, my life as a superhero is so difficult" movie? We get it, being a superhero sucks. Now come up with a new take.

Seriously, the best thing I can say about it, is that it lacks the typical Snyder-ish blue box/slow motion style, that I hate so much.

well, if he wants to build up some goodwill, he could start by ending the war in burma. then he could fly over to darfur and stop the genocide there. then maybe he could kidnap obama and boner and fly them up to the fortress of solitude and force them to stay there until they fixed the whole fiscal cliff thing. all things that are totally doable for an invincible bulletproof flying alien, by the way.

at least, it would probably work better than spending all his time in manhattan catching jewel thieves.

I have a strong suspicion that this movie is riffing on Casino Royale.
After a punishing fight with Zod, all that is left of him is his Red Pants. As Supes picks up his trophy, slowly pulling them on, the old familiar Williams theme stirs, and the movie ends with the Red Pant Superman zooming aloft.
...and so forth.

This of course would tie into the earlier scene where Lois Lane says "If the only thing left of you was your Red Pants and your little finger, you'd still be more of a man than anyone I've ever known."

To which Supes would reply, "More of a super-man, you mean."

Angry silence.

That's. Fuckin. Combat.

That's interesting.

For me it seems like the "Malickian" vibe that everyone was joking about after the teaser is definitely intentional, either on Snyder's part or the part of whoever's cutting these trailers (or they're just fucking with us). After watching this last one I could practically picture Supes whisper-shouting "Mother, Father: Always you wrestle inside meeeeeeee!"

Christopher Nolan: Superman Is More Challenging Than Batman
The "Dark Knight" mastermind is producing "Man of Steel" but says the series is in good hands with director Zack Snyder: "I'm just amazed by what he is doing."
Marc Bernardin wrote:Sending Superman aloft again is a tougher task than resurrecting Batman, contends Christopher Nolan, who is producing Warner Bros.' Man of Steel, which director Zack Snyder is readying for a June 14 release.

“Zack was the perfect man to take this on,” Nolan says. "He is unbelievably skilled at creating a coherent, cohesive world -- whether it’s a very stylized world, like 300, or something that’s more challenging, more varied, like he did with Watchmen."

Nolan added: “In my honest appraisal, taking on Superman and creating that world is far more difficult than creating the world of the Dark Knight. He has a lot of finishing to do on the movie -- it has a very long postproduction schedule because, unlike Batman, Superman flies.

"I actually feel guilty talking about it because I’m sitting here having nothing to do to it," he concluded. "I try to be as supportive as I can, and I’m just amazed by what he is doing. It’s not something I would know how to do.”

David S. Goyer Talks About Man of Steel
"I'm really proud of it," he said, "I never thought I would be doing a Superman film, but I think the only possible way to top myself or ourselves on Batman is to tackle Superman whose kind of the Granddaddy of all the superheroes. He's trickier, it's kind of easier doing a dark character who doesn't have any super powers but I'm really proud of what we've done and I can't wait for people to see it. I think the movie is going to be the right movie for the times. I'm happy that movie is coming out in the summer, because I think it's the kind of movie that the world needs right now."

I still can't get over the size of that cape. It's huge! I can't get Edna Mode's "No capes!" speech out of my mind.

Also, he doesn't have the red briefs, so he doesn't have the belt. But he still has what seems to be a vestigial belt buckle. This costume is just weird.
