VFX Supervisor Joe Letteri On The Most Exciting Thing About Man Of Steel
Brendon Connelly wrote:Letteri didn’t want to talk about the film’s FX, though. He was excited about the story. Here’s what he told me:

I can’t talk too much about Man of Steel yet, and I haven’t seen the whole thing yet, but overall it’s the story that’s most exciting. It’s a nice re-envisioning of the story of Superman leaving his homeworld and coming to this new one.

If you look at what Zack [Snyder] has done you’ll see that they’ve abandoned a lot of the pretense that was in the comics and asked “Can we still make this work?”

They’re sticking to realism as much as possible. Fantastic elements are still there but a lot of it that been trimmed back to make it feel as though this actually happened.

'Man of Steel': Not the familiar Superman (fan)fare
Jennifer Vineyard wrote:(CNN) --
Zimmer said he came to this understanding about director Zack Snyder's take on Superman (which reboots the series, instead of coming in at a later point a la "Superman Returns") because he was questioning how he would score the film and not remind audiences of John Williams' iconic fanfare theme. "Look, that was daunting," Zimmer confessed. "Seriously. He's the greatest film composer out there, without a doubt, and it happens to be one of his iconic pieces of music, so I spent three months just procrastinating and not even getting a start on the thing, because I was so intimidated: 'Oh my God, I'm following in John Williams' footsteps.'"

I have to say, mighty impressed. And we only got short glimpses of the action. This looks like it's going to kick all sorts of ass.

One thing I didn't like about the trailer: Jor-El's cheesy voiceovers. Take that out and it's perfect.

I actually loved the music, and loved the trailer. Costner's little choke-up is fantastic. Michael Shannon is perfectly menacing. Amy Adams intrigues me.
With the exception of a shot of Superman at around 2:08 that just looks weird (could be context), this looks amazing.

I'm happy to see a little "fun" in this trailer. The teaser and all the previous image reveals seemed very very somber and quite frankly depressing.

I'm certainly more intrigued than I was before, although its still not on my "must see" list...

Zack Snyder Promises "Poignancy" Along With Action In MAN OF STEEL
"I wanted the movie to be a big movie-going experience, full of action, full of emotion and full of the biggest super hero in the world. I wanted to give to the cinemas of the world a big, giant 'movie' movie. I've been a big fan of the character my whole life. He is the greatest super hero. There's no competition between super heroes, but if there was, he'd win."

1. He's alive and walking..... he currently owns Reeve's ass. Tasteless, but true.
2. As for the music, it's simple chord progressions with drums layered underneath. Effective.

As for the rest of your brilliant dissertation... you're not quite getting the viewpoint of the film they're taking are you? If, in our real world, an alien who was indestructible... who possessed superhuman strength.... superhuman hearing... could emit freaking lasers out of his eyes.... can move "faster than a speeding bullet"...... oh, and he can fly. If this being suddenly appeared, the world's population wouldn't treat him like a god. They wouldn't treat him like a savior. They wouldn't treat him like a hero. They would FREAK THE FUCK OUT!!!!
That is more along the lines of the angle this version of Superman is apparently taking.

The looks of the new film have me intrigued.

As much as I love Reeves, and he was the perfect looking old generation superman, he did leave the character slightly under developed.

From everything I've seen in the new trailer, and this doesn't mean it's going to kick ass, it looks like they tried to fill in some blanks in Clark's/Cal's personality.

To be fair, I'm looking forward to this more than the new Star Trek - cos that looks like lens flair with a vague plot (so far). There's some meat on the Superman Kebab yet.

Grant Morrison On MAN OF STEEL:
Celebrated comic book writer Grant Morrison touches on Man of Steel while promoting Wonder Woman: Earth One. But before addressing Superman, Morrison comments on the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3.
Mark Julian wrote:Moving on to Man of Steel, Morrison shared that he's actually been in contact with David S. Goyer albeit not specifically about Man of Steel. However, Morrison says that some of the lines in the movie are taken directly from some of his Superman runs.

"I've spoken to [screenwriter] David Goyer, not about the 'Man of Steel,' but I know he's used a couple of my lines from some of my Superman stuff in it. And that's the only involvement I've had. But that's good enough for me. I'm really looking forward to it. There's a very good chance this is going to be the Superman movie that changes the movie perception of Superman."

Re: MAN OF STEEL DAY

Postby TheButcher on Fri May 24, 2013 1:31 am

DC Entertainment Declares June 12 'Man of Steel' Day at Comic Book Retailers and Bookstores Across the U.S.
In celebration of the summer’s most eagerly anticipated film, DC Entertainment is partnering with comic book retailers and bookstores across America to declare Wednesday, June 12 MAN OF STEEL DAY, ahead of the film’s wide release on Friday, June 14. Sponsored by Sears, those visiting their local comic book retailers on MAN OF STEEL DAY will receive a free copy of ALL STAR SUPERMAN #1 SPECIAL EDITION comic book by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly.

In addition to the free comic, DC Entertainment has partnered with Warner Bros. to provide comic shops with various MAN OF STEEL promotional posters and bags to get fans geared up for the film’s release.

Fans who visit comic stores on MAN OF STEEL DAY can also purchase the first issue of red-hot new comic series, SUPERMAN UNCHAINED, from bestselling creators Scott Snyder and Jim Lee. The series promises to elevate the already high-flying hero to new heights as he faces off against foes familiar and new. SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #1 includes a bonus two-sided, tipped-in poster measuring approximately 11” x 18” that can be easily removed for display.

“Comic fans and moviegoers have made it very clear that they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of MAN OF STEEL in theaters and we’re excited to offer our retailer partners a chance to celebrate the occasion and tap into fan’s enthusiasm,” stated John Cunningham, vice president of marketing, DC Entertainment.

Also available at comic retail locations is DC Collectibles’ all-new line of 12” MAN OF STEEL statues that capture the film’s characters, Superman, Jor El, Zod and Faora, in stunning, highly-realistic likenesses. The line is already a top seller for DC Collectibles, further demonstrating retailer and fan excitement for MAN OF STEEL.

Continuing the celebration around the film’s release, DC Entertainment has partnered with Random House to bring MAN OF STEEL to libraries across the U.S. on Saturday, June 15. More than 1,000 local libraries will offer visitors buttons, bookmarks and Superman comics.

On the digital front, ALL STAR SUPERMAN #1 will also be available for free download, courtesy of Sears, and the “Superman 201” digital comics sale kicks off on June 12 at http://www.readdcentertainment.com, the DC Comics app, and all digital platforms (comiXology, Kindle, iBookstore, Nook). The sale offers hundreds of acclaimed Superman titles like SUPERMAN: SECRET ORIGIN by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, SUPERMAN: FOR TOMORROW by Brian Azzarello and Jim Lee, SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT by Mark Waid and Leinil Yu – all for $.99 each.

I will be going to the first showing on Friday, which is the kind of thing I always avoid because who needs that bullshit, but with this I would be crazy not to.

I'm catching a matinee on Saturday in 3D IMAX. Driving over an hour for the pleasure. Hope it's worth it!

The early RT score indicates a positive initial trend, albeit leaning to the lukewarm side.

i haven't been too interested in this film. i've always thought he was the most boring superhero, and even so, i did love the first two films, and have never been able to imagine a more perfect casting of the role than christopher reeve.

that said, i like a lot of the ideas i'm hearing in that review.
i like the idea that kal-el is the first natural born child on krypton in 1000 years, not genetically engineered, and this is what makes him an 'outlaw' and exiled to earth, and presumably the reason general zod is hunting him

i like the idea that clark kent goes around anonymously saving people, doing superman stuff without being superman, trying to avoid the spotlight... and at some point probably is convinced that he can do even more good by becoming known

i like the idea that lois lane has been tracking down this mysterious stranger, investigating this guy who goes around saving people while hiding his identity

those all sound like elements for a pretty good superman film. the trailers have looked good and suitably epic. i just hope they don't overdo the Punky Power, and forget to put in some humor and charm. we don't need ned beatty slapstick or anything, but i want to see superman have a twinkle in his eye from time to time, kind of like bond was beginning to show in skyfall. that charm is a big part of what was missing from the last attempt at a superman film.

Based on a couple of reviews I've read, it sounds like it could be missing here too.

I just hope they go into detail about how Jor El was killed by lung cancer.

I hope in between his deckhand beard and being cleanshaven, Supes goes through a stage with a Freddie Mercury 'stache.
