"We've sensed it. We've seen The Signs... Now it's Happening"

Apart from The Happening sounding to me like the best possible parody title for a M. Night Shyamalan film... I'll, if a little cautiously, second your intrigue, Fievel.

I wonder if that's just pithy advertising, or there's going to to be some King'essque continuity introduced now...

That would be interesting - the possible continuity. But that's nothing a little water can't take care of. Unless... They're back... and this time they brought raingear! IMDB lists the plot at a "natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity". Maybe it'll have continuity with An Inconvenient Truth instead!... or Armageddon... The Core... Jaws 3-D...

I'm a sucker for an apocalyptic tale, so that's what has my interest piqued right now. The simple shot of cars strewn left and right is cool.

Whatever it's about... IT'S HAPPENING.

Wheter we like it or not, I'm guessing.

I hope by the time it reaches the theatres it hasn't HAPPENED already and we're all somehow saved the enevitable luxury of being dissapointed with it anyway.

How can you be disappointed when you know that there will be a twist AND somewhere M. Night will make an appearance.. because.. you know... he doesn't have an ego or anything.

You have to love how after all that authentic brotherly love, you cut to the credits and...

" Written by Saul Turtletaub and Bernie Orenstein".

Word.

They don't make 'em like they used to...

No, everytime 6th Sense rolls around agaon on TV, I'm always a little annoyed at myself for forgetting how good it actually is, for the most part anyway.

If he did it once, I won't write him off completely. Doing it again, to the same affect, though? Hmm...

But If it's a good film, no matter how kooky or dissapointing the ninny behind the camera, I'll hug it and feed it cookies and rub it's belly like it's my favouritist puppy ever.

I don't know how many times I've been throught it before, but one of the concequences I've come to get used to when anticipating films in the Zone, is half the time the threads are more entertaining the than entertainment they're made for...

Was "From the director of 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Signs'" not good enough for them?

Is it that M.Night has actually travelled to the future and written an accurate account of his next film debut, came back and tried to tout it round hollywood as his new film?

I can see what he's done with this picture and it's actually quite clever for him. It actually makes sense (that's the clever part).

I hope he gets used to it.

Isn't this the one where (spoiler) the planet decides that humanity is a virus and plants start giving off a scent that makes people instantaneously suicidal? Cop shoots himself in the head in Central Park and people keep picking up the gun and doing the same until the bullets finally run out, etc? Or is this a different movie written by other people?

I'll admit it. Sixth Sense final twist got me good.

Since then, Shyamalan has really lost his touch. Now I expect some major "something". I have been able to figure out every film since. And it gets more predictable every time. *yawn*
The Happening had better be Dy-no-mite. Otherwise, Shyamalan won't be seeing another dime from me. Rental or otherwise.

Is is a good trailer? Can't view here at work unfortunately.

The concept was great, the poster was very atmospheric... let's hope the movie lives up to both (even though nowadays, that's almost never the case).

The trailer alone had a really high death count.
Bodies falling, dropping almost randomly, but intentionally.
Because of the trailer, I hope I never find out what "The Happening" actually is before I see the movie.

Yeah I don't know about this guy, he's pulled the Orson Welles of modern filmmakers; I dug 6th sense big time, but it was all downhill from there. His films are alright tho if you don't expect too much. He always manages to capture the tension in the atmosphere, which I think is enough for a rainy sunday afternoon film with the boyfriend.

I have no idea what the film's supposed to be about, but I'm guessing from the teaser that there's an outbreak of suicide (probably in Phillie)?! WTF? That's enough to get me in the movie theater. Let's hope it's a return to form, as in Sixth Sense (I don't think he'll top Unbreakable) form. Right now it looks like it'll be nearer to Signs than anything else, but that's an acceptable compromise.

It's a well done trailer that's creepy and interesting and mysterious enough...

And Marky Mark is a big enough star to draw people in...

The Shyamalan hate runs deep here in the Zone. I remain puzzled by the seemingly endless backlash against him. Were some of you wronged by him personally, or is it just easier to go along with the crowd? :-P
Myself, I like all of his films in varying degrees, with the exception of Lady in the Water, which I haven't seen.

I was so pleasantly surprised with Sixth Sense that expectations were way too high for the rest of them. Seen Unbreakable a couple of times, was quite disappointed tbh, it just left me with a 'meh', and then it sorta went out of hand with the Village and Signs, I didn't buy it really, and the way his films all follow the same pattern kinda took the edge off. After reading the reviews for Lady in the Water I couldn't even be bothered to watch it. But hopefully this will be his big revenge on us all.

I haven't seen Lady either.
I'm just sick of him putting himself in his films.
It was cute the first time.

Other than that, I didn't like The Village. Part of that may have to do with being spoiled before I saw it, but the whole concept just wasn't interesting to me.

The best thing about Signs was the soundtrack (one of my recent favorites). It wasn't a bad movie, just an extremely weak ending (the whole water thing).

Because while Unbreakable was a fascinating piece of film, The Sixth Sense was much ado about nothing (with great actors!) with a "suprise ending" that was way too easy to figure out (He got shot in the beginning and the kid says that dead people sometimes don'T even know that they are dead. How could you not see this coming? [Although I was expecting that his wife was dead too]). Signs had some pretty good jump scares, but no real memorable moment (and of course I can't take movie seriously in which Aliens come to a planet where the substance that kills them is almost everywhere, but they don't even wear protection suits or stuff like that). The Village was at first great, but then...not even watchable and I didn't care for Lady In The Water.
I gotta admit that he is capable of building up strong suspense and is visually talented, but he is a bad writer and I recommend that his next movie should feature somebody elses script.
