What do you have against Philly folk???

What its got going for it: Marky Mark. Shyamalan. Edgy.

What its got going against it: suicides, Shyamalan. Asking the normal movie goer to sit thru who knows how many suicides (probably graphic) is asking alot.

My prediction: another modest hit for M Night, but not much more.

I need to work on teh expression skillz, I was being positive!! That was a "WTF" written in pure joy!! I'm a fan of Shyamalan, never thought he was the second coming or anything, but The Happening, title and all, has potential IMO.

Wow, I didn't know that the movie was like that. I'm suprised actually. In a good way of course, because if you can't compare it to a movie that has already been done, then it's already off to a great start.

This looks like Night's best since Signs at least. I really was interested in the trailer. I'm hoping that the film delivers. And an R rating is like the cherry on top.

That trailer could potentially become the new Bombay TV. All you have to do is edit out the "The Happening" screen and add in, say, this picture:

Et voila, comedy gold!

Seconded (or thirded, fourthed, infinitied...). They try to make it work in the teaser ("it will happen"; "what's happening?"; "could this really be happening?"; "THE HAPPENING!"), but it just doesn't.

Cool preview though.

Don't read a book by it's cover...

*snickers*

Seriously I agree, "The Happening", isn't a spetacular title... however, it is generating interest.
Good or bad, we're talking about it, and as far as marketing is concerned that is what really matters.

What was the original title... "The Green Effect" or something along those lines?

The Happening just doesn't exactly role off the tongue but the teaser was pretty spooky.

Just one question, I haven't read it but isn't this the premise for Stephen King's The Cell? Only through a cell phone signal instead of the Earth doing something... right?

In the beginning of The Cell (the best part of the book), people kill each other after getting a signal through their cell phones. Here it looks like they just kill themselves.

M. Night Shyamalan's THE HAPPENING

Postby bastard_robo on Tue Feb 05, 2008 1:08 am

The trailer gave me a bit of a shiver.

When I first read the script review, the premise of the film gave me a chill..

Im hoping that this will be a return to form for M. Night. After the god awful THE VILLAGE and the so so LADY IN THE WATER, the Happening can pull the guy out of the gutter

the village was lame. That blind girl should have started out with sight, but got her yes poked out in the last 20 minutes so that she could go to the real world for help.

I never saw The Village or Lady in the Water. Moriarty's script review put me off the former and the scores of poor reviews and a lackluster trailer put me off the latter.

That being said, this trailer did spark my interest, but I'll probably wait to read some reviews before deciding to go see this.

Even though I know it's a metaphor for pollution and for "going green" and all that hippie crap, I think I'd rather watch a movie called THE HAPPENING instead of "The Green Effect." I mean, that's one step away from eating gluten free buns, wearing birkenstock, and putting Al Gore on speed dial. It's a little overkill, no?

OFFICIAL TRAILER!

Good to see actual dialogue and some story points, as opposed to that psuedo teaser we saw earlier. I try not to get to excited for new M. Night films, but damn does this look cool.

Hope it delivers!

Actually it's saying a lot. I was referring to the hype that Signs brought before it was released (and ultimately squashed by the last third of the movie). That movie looked amazing from the trailers alone. This movie looks even better (again from just the trailers).

I find he has an easy, worldly charisma.

Ahem, and so... the trailer depicts a universe where Mark Wahlberg's character wears cardigans, and within in which he correctly uses the word "whom"?
