Fantastic Four 2 in the works...

You guys think they can redeem this film to Batman proportions? I'm very, VERY skeptical :?

is that why it dropped nearly 2/3 of its business in the 2nd week?

well I think the they should call the sequel Fantastic Square-Root-Of-Four... cos the square root of 4 is 2... get it? OK i guess that's dumb.

Movies have a tendency to drop off in their second week. FF had some big competition, but honestly everyone I know who has seen it says they enjoyed it on some level.

You know what that means? It means 100% of American enjoyed it on some level*.

From IGN.com
Fantastic Four Sequel Talk
More villains and more action.
by Stax
July 28, 2005 - MTV chatted with three members of 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four about what they would like to see happen in the proposed sequel to the Marvel hit.

"I'd like to see them move onto the business of being superheroes and facing different arch-villains," said Michael Chiklis, a.k.a. Ben "The Thing" Grimm. "More villains and more action."

Chris Evans, who plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, suggested that in the sequel "we could really start exploring how cool these powers actually are."

Ioan Gruffudd, who stars as Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, said he'd "like to see them in their own environment, as in walking around New York City, using these special powers in everyday life. More of those elements of it — we touched upon that in the movie, for example, Reed Richards walking down the street and he can't quite see where he's going and he stretches up and has a look over the crowd or he's able to hail a cab and get there before anyone else. Just fun little elements like that."

God I hope they do a better job this time.

This is definitely a DVD title for me. One day I actually may rent "Catwoman," just because I feel I must. I can be hard on myself, sometimes.

But, it's got Halle Berry and Benjamin Bratt! And Sharon Stone! It's directed by a pretentious, one-named European!

Surely it's got some camp so-bad-it's-good entertainment? Or is it just so bad it's horrendously awful?

DennisMM, I saw some of it, but I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing. Like, 10 times worse than Gigli. I seriously picked up the phone and tried to call the Kodiak Theater to see if someone there could drive to Halle's house and take away her Oscar.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Okay, seriously though, I've debated this to death in Harry's review TB on the main site and F4 is most definitely not a good movie. I know there are folks who enjoyed it, but everyone I've spoken to who said they did, said they did WITH RESERVATIONS. Everyone admits is could've been better and most say it should've been. I'm hoping they turn it around with a sequel, but I have little hope if Tim Story is on board. He's a notch below even MSJ.

A friend of mine from the old days, a comics shop owner, always said that FF could have been the hottest porno ever. Between Reed's stretching and Sue's force fields, the possibilities are endless. Maybe that was the movie they should have made.

What's a really stupid, punning, dirty title we can derive from Fantastic Four? You know, something like, "Hannah Does Her Sisters" or "Hairy Peter and the Sorceror's Bone"?

Let's be smutty but smart.

Well, in all fairness the standard for a second week drop is 40-60%. Both Fantastic Four and Batman Begins fall into the norm, but you don't here too many people using Batman Begins losing almost half its buisiness by the second week (45%) to say that this is proof BB sucks.

Whedon makes a good point. I liked it, try as I might not to, but it's a very frustrating film. The cast is so damn good with the crap lines they're given, it hurts to think of what they might have done with a Spider-Man level script.

i actually enjoyed FF. It was a lot more fun than Batman Begins, it was just disposable.

But i think Begins was boring. I think FF needs a little more of Begins' seriousness, and Begins could use a little fun of FF

This was up earlier this week:

Latino Review wrote:While at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles I ran into Tim Story, the director of the Fantastic Four and as you know by now he will also be directing the upcoming sequel Fantastic Four 2. Once I saw him I just yelled it out to him "Tim what's up man? We seeing the Puppet Master in Fantastic Four 2?, which of course he laughed it off and just said, "I can't tell you" (Laughs)

I ended up chatting with him for like 5 mintues or so and of course I had to go around the question regarding the Puppet Master like is Kerry Washington going to be in the sequel, "Kerry will have a larger role in the sequel" Story said. So who knows maybe that means that yes we will see the Puppet Master as the villain for the sequel, or maybe we will see more of Kerry Washington as the blind love interest to Ben Grimm's aka THE THING, since that's how they left it off in the first film. Kerry Washington plays Alicia Masters, who is the daughter to the Puppet Master.

Before I hopped on my ride to the airport back to NYC I asked him when does shooting start, Story replies, "August 1st up in Vancouver" And finally I asked Story that towards the end of the first film, it left it wide open that Doom will be back, so will he? "Yes that I can tell you. He will be back in full DOOM, not like we had him in the first film"

Fantastic Four 2 is scheduled to be released in July 4th 2007.

According to Story, it's still Doom.

so what about the concept of stringing some villains and leaving ito on a cliff hanger. maybee some doom scenes to show he is an existing threat ready to strike, then introduce the puppet master as a future possibility but not a current threat (like Dr. Conners in spidey 2) and just let them take on Galactus. That could make it interesting.

maybee.

Okay, that "scoop" is obvious BS. It was mentioned by both Rothman and Arad several times over the past year that Galactus is saved for the Silver Surfer movie, with the possibility of a cross-over at some point (read: probably never.)

Since day one they were saying no Surfer and no Galactus in the Fantastic Four movies. This is fanboy wishmaking and bad reporting.

Plus, casting calls NEVER mention plot info or anything other than the character descriptions of the roles that people are auditioning for. And they sure as hell wouldn't mention something like villains which they always want to keep under wraps until the official announcements.

Well, that's that then, eh?

What about a possible Mole Man story? Or maybe a Skrull invasion?

Ah, I can't wait. Yum.

Edit: Due to glaring mistake Adam so aptly pointed out. Touche, four eyes, touche.

Personally I'd love to see a Krull invasion. Maybe they can have that big castle land in the middle of Manhattan. The FF have to fight the Beast to save Susan, but the only way to get the five pointed bladestar thing is for Reed to stick his hand in some molten lava to get it. But since he's made of rubber his hand keeps melting. That's Gold!!!! :D

Edit: Didn't like the eyerolling smiley. Wasn't dissing, was j/k

You can view the actual "casting call" here.

Basically this is just some site where anyone can register for free and within five minutes they can be posting whatever they want. There's no oversight. Notice that this is posted anonymously with zero contact information given. Notice zero descriptions of what they're casting for or who should apply. Notice the typos. ("productionfor")

This is laughably bad.

Then again look at the marvel trend. From x-men to x2, spidey to spidey 2, bothe franchises have improved. I have a feeling that ff2 will be much better than the first.
