Only among the top five living film directors and alongside Jodorowsky and Lynch the most iconoclastic one alive. A truly bold and maverick filmmaker, one of the last of his kind, alas.

Jodo-who-now?
I just looked at Herzog's imdb page and I don't recognize a single film...
If you were to reccomend one of his films, which would it be and why?

That's a hard, hard one. Probably Aguirre, Wrath Of God - set in the 16th century and about a group of Spanish conquistador's searching for El Dorado through the jungles of Peru. Full of extraordinary images, music, storytelling and with a performance to die for by Klaus Kinski, it's a work of wayward genius as well as being probably the most accessible Herzog movie to date. That was my starting point to Herzog's films and I haven't looked back since. Make that journey as soon as you can, So Sorry!

Where's a pic of George Harrison on the Simpsons with a quote bubble saying "It's been done" when you need it?
seppukudkurosawa wrote: The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, which is the one I'd recommend to someone starting out with Herzog, mostly because it's arguably his most narrative driven film, though it still contains some pretty beautiful shots within (a boat drifting across a mercury lake while a swan passes by in the foreground).
It's also totally a film anyone getting high will get into (just as long as they have at least a half-functional attention span), because the idea of a guy suddenly appearing in society after being locked in a basement for the first twenty years of his life is totally like some far-flung stoner fantasy. Though in this case, it's based on a true story.

Where was that? I haven't seen Heart of Glass.
