Looks like The Green Hornet has died again:

http://tinyurl.com/cgy9b7

Moriarty wrote:...Right now, it looks like "The Green Hornet" is about to collapse again, and if this particular configuration doesn't happen, then I suspect it never will.

Ever since Stephen Chow started to waffle about his participation in the film, I've been hearing rumors that there were major hesitations at Sony. Then at Sundance, I heard several people say that the film was off completely. I spoke this afternoon with a source close to the film, and while they didn't call it completely dead, they did say it is "highly unlikely" that the film will shoot in 2009 at all.
...
I'll continue to look into this, but for now, it looks like "The Green Hornet" has gone onto life-support at Sony, with a good chance the studio's going to kick the plug out any moment now.

GREEN HORNET it ain't dead yet!

My sources around Stephen Chow say, not so fast Moriarty! Sure, the evil professor may have a new assumed identity, but he's still out to thwart Good and the powers of truth and justice... even under his new alias of Drew McWeeny.

It seems Stephen Chow is still attached and moving forward on GREEN HORNET. Meanwhile, long time Asian Film site, MonkeyPeaches which has provided AICN with an awesome array of Asian Film scoops in the past is reporting that Stephen Chow's next foreign film is called JOURNEY TO THE WEST!

How do you respond... Mo... I mean, DREW MCWEENY? IF THAT'S YOUR NAME?!?!? Will you be man enough to admit how you're just an evil doddering ol frigid fool for listening to the Sundance Bitching? Hmmm? I will be watching to see if you do any significant follow up!

From AICN: AHA! Moriarty admits that the HORNET still buzzes!!!
Harry wrote:Hey folks, Harry here... It seems that my calling Moria... um... Drew out on my last GREEN HORNET posting has made him fess up. It takes a big man to admit his old boss was right. Truth be told, the two of us have always had a tenuous relationship. Once, while rehearsing for the Comedy Central AINT IT COOL Pilot - we realized that Drew couldn't appear on camera with me, because... and this is the absolute God-honest truth... When he looked at me, he had endearing affection for me. That's right. He wanted me. This never threatened me, but I think there was something about his love for me, that created this... this... how do I put it. This. Well, frankly I don't wish to embarrass him, but he knows I'm a fan of THE GREEN HORNET, and frankly - it's astonishing to me that he makes the claim that nobody of his Generation or Younger cares about THE GREEN HORNET or could honestly be a huge fan.

Well, Drew was born sometime in the late 50's I believe - so I can't really speak about his generation, but I was born in 1971. Like many kids of the seventies... BRUCE LEE was a big deal. Prior to motion control camera rigs and lazer swords... KUNG FU was the geek thing. Sure, there was STAR TREK... LOGAN'S RUN... That sort of stuff, but really - the cross-platform film thing that was causing mass geeking across cultural barriers was BRUCE LEE. By the time I was 3, the GREEN HORNET movie opened in theaters comprised of footage from various episodes. It's not a great movie, but man... at age 3, I knew ENTER THE DRAGON, FIST OF FURY, CHINESE CONNECTION... My parents were huge honking Bruce Lee geeks.

There were toys. There were posters. There were gum cards. There were Kato masks. And the show was shown on TV from time to time in syndication. I really really like THE GREEN HORNET, much more than I liked the Adam West BATMAN. Now that Drew has spoken with Seth Rogen regarding THE GREEN HORNET. Seth basically confirmed what we said, that it was still happening, and they were currently looking for the director for the project. Personally, I'd love to see James McTeigue take on this project.

I have to admit, in many ways - this script is the script I'm most curious to take a look at in Hollywood right now. Mainly because I don't really have a handle on what they are doing with the film. I'd love McTeigue to make a Green Hornet film that would just shock us. I know that most of you are thinking of Seth Rogen as that pot head porn obsessed goofy guy from KNOCKED UP and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and ZACK & MIRI... but I'm getting a notion that Seth is on a path to transform his image and personality in Hollywood.

I hear that OBSERVE AND REPORT isn't simply a laugh riot. I hear it's actually quite a dark film. And a very good one at that. It won't at all be the drivel of PAUL BLART - and I hear his turn in FUNNY PEOPLE is surprising as well. I've also heard and if you've seen Seth in interviews recently, he's been working the flab off pretty viciously to get prepared for this role. Let's see what this film is. Right now, it might be something very different from what hearing Seth's name means. That definition could be changing.

An MTV EXCLUSIVE: ‘Green Hornet’ Director Announced, Seth Rogen Responds

Larry Carroll wrote:Seth Rogen's high-profile superhero movie has a brand-new director — one of the most distinctive visionaries in Hollywood — and the star can only use three words to describe how he's feeling about it.

"It's f---ing crazy!" he said when we spoke with him Tuesday, accentuating the point with his trademark laugh (which was imitated by Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard backstage at the Oscars).

His new "Green Hornet" collaborator is none other than Michel Gondry, the eye-popping auteur who gave us "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Be Kind Rewind," and too many classic music videos to list here. Capping off an exhaustive search, the "Pineapple Express" funnyman said Gondry is the perfect director for his comedic take on the crime-fighting newspaper publisher who first slipped into his green mask in 1936.

"Me and [co-writer] Evan [Goldberg] have always been gigantic fans of [Gondry]," Rogen beamed. "We just like anyone who thinks outside the box, and there's really nobody who thinks more outside the box then he does; he's really a magician in a lot of ways."

Serving as writer, producer and star of the film that begins shooting soon, Rogen admitted that he had always been pulling for Gondry to land the high-profile gig — and even helped the French filmmaker get an inside track. "I've actually been e-mailing with him for a really long time, because he was involved with the project a long time ago," he explained. "With the permission of nobody, I sent him our script ... to get his input and ideally convince the studio to meet with him. They were skeptical of ... I wouldn't say his ability to make a giant budget studio movie, but his willingness to make a giant budget studio movie. But he loved the script, he totally got it, which a lot of [potential directors] just didn't."

Gondry loved the "Green Hornet" script so much, in fact, that he began filming it immediately. "To convince the studio to let him do it, he filmed a fight scene on his own," Rogen marveled. "He just hired stunt men and did it by himself! Just to show some of the stuff he could do, some of the weird filming techniques he has and some of the stuff he can pull off. I mean, this is something he did in two days and it was instantly unlike anything you've ever seen before. It was impossible not to hire him once he presented what he could do for it."

Now, Rogen and Goldberg are looking forward to blending their unique "Superbad" sensibility with a decades-old crime-fighter and a thoroughly modern filmmaker. And while he assured us that the result will prominently feature Gondry's knack for making ordinary things look extraordinary, he was quick to say that the film won't simply be the Gondry we've come to expect.

"My direct quote to [Gondry] right before he met with the studio was, 'You have to convince them they're not gonna show up on set one day and everything is gonna be made out of cardboard,' " laughed Rogen. "And he said, 'I can definitely do that.' "

"["The Green Hornet"] will be a great combination of both of our movies, of both of our styles," Rogen said of the film, which hits theaters June 25, 2010. "It should have the type of conversational tone and comedy that me and Evan have been doing — and some of the action that we have been starting to try to do — along with the wild, visual imagination and funny awkward sensibility that he's been doing."

if they are going to get rid of someone they should ditch Rogen, who is already more than played out as an actor, imo, if you can actually say the guy every really "acted" in the first place, he is the same character in every movie, but then so is Micheal Cera and it seems to be serving him well.......

I like Rogen and Gondry, but to be honest I'm a lot less interested in this movie now that Stephen Chow has nothing to do with it. I was looking forward to seeing him direct, or at least star in, a Hollywood film. Plus I think it's a little shady that he just happened to step down from both, but months apart; it makes it seem like there was some behind-the-scenes drama going on.

this has gone from being a movie i was really looking forward to, when Chow was supposed to star and direct, to a turd i have no interest in. hey hollywood, enough of the Seth Rogen already, the guy isn't that fucking funny or any kind of actor, he just happens to be buddies with the right people, and while Gondry is good at what he does, he doesn't do movies like the Green Hornet

He doesn't do them yet. I know this is very ungeeklike of me, but I'm starting to get a bit tired of Comic Book movies, so putting someone like Gondry at the helm might be just the ticket to shake them up a little.

I'll admit that the movie did seem cooler with Chow directing, though. It still looks fun, but if they Charlie Chan up Kato I'm out.

to go from the whimsical romanticism that Gondry specializes in to The Green Hornet is quite a leap so i don't think my lack of confidence is that out of bounds, and when you combine that with the initial expectation of Chow helming, considering his prior work.......well, it is quite a drop off for me

Jay Chou? This is the closest to Bruce Lee we can come up with? The guy is a piano player. Why didn't we just save some money and get Billy Joel to play Kato. Shit, what kind of side kick is this guy gonna make? Is he going to sooth the movie villains into a false lull as Seth Rogen performs his studly geek schtick? I don't have anything against musicians, it's just they can't Kung Fu.

I hope this movie movie ends up being a Green Hornet farce, like that Sherlock Holmes comedy with Michael Cain (Without A Clue).

I saw Initial D and the movie was boring as eunuch balls; so was Curse of the Golden flower.

Production begins and new cast members revealed.

But now that Michel Gondry is ready to direct, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg's script is a go and production in Los Angeles has started, we've got a complete picture of the film, including some new stars.

Up to now, we knew Seth Rogen was playing the Hornet, Taiwanese actor-pop star Jay Chou is Kato, Nic Cage is talking about being some sort of villain and Cameron Diaz is onboard as the female lead. However, now new casting has come to light:

Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) and Tom Wilkinson (Valkyrie) have been attached to the film.

Burl, you must go rent The Wicker Man remake immediately.
Elitism is positing that your taste is equivalent to quality, you hate "Hamlet" does it make it "bad"? If you think so, you're one elite motherfucker.

Fucking spoilers. But I still want to see Green Hornet for Waltz. He was so damn awesome in Inglourious Basterds.
