And Frankenweenie was his first shot and produced by Disney. Which they are now turning into a feature film.

Yeah I don't see how that's going to work in feature length. Maybe if it's purely directed at kids.

I'm a huge fan of McGee's version of Alice. I've wanted to see this in the cinema for so long - it'd be sooo dark.
And remember... Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see!

I apologise for EVERYTHING.

If this is done right it could prove just as mind numbing as going to a Pink Floyd light show.

So - Depp will most likely be in it, and hopefully Bonham Carter as well. In what parts do we want to see them?

I'm totally thinking he'll be the Mad Hatter and she'll be the Queen of Hearts. That's a little obvious, though...

Then again, this film could've been why I decided to get that Alice-inspired loli dress for myself...

I am concerned about Burton and this film. I want him to stretch a little more ( Sweeney Todd-check) and not do another Shift F1 Hot Topic movie.

Haven't seen the girl act, but from looks alone I'd be happy to see Saorise Ronan as Alice.

Depp as the caterpillar. Tom Waits as the Mad Hatter. Katee Sackhoff as the Cheshire Cat. All good.

I think I don't care about this one at all. I've never been a big fan of Alice in Wonderland. So this is a live action update of the Disney animated version? Do I have that right?

The only reason I'm posting is because of all the talk of favorite adaptations of the story. I'm here to offer mine:

Tom Petty's video for "Don't Come Around Here No More."

Game, set, mizzatch.

I don't remeember that beeing stated explicitely.

I'm sure Danny DeVito would fit into a Burton Version of Alice. Were the studly twins in the Disney version or just in the cartoon series I watched as a kid?

From Cinematical article: Casting Rumors for Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland':
According to the commenter, Ian B: "My brother is working on the movie and he said Alice has been cast. He is a music supervisor for the movie and said there will be a press release about it on July 9th. The role was originally supposed to be Evan Rachel Woods but she backed out. Alice won't be played by a child but a 23 year old. From what I was told it's her first Burton movie, and her first big role in a film that will be released world wide." So who's the lucky gal? Say hello to Ryan Nikole Parker. Parker is not very well known, and other than a few TV credits is a relative newcomer to the business.

Erm, are you sure it wasn't the "American McGee" one? Anyway, here is her IMDB page-

From AICN article: Tim Burton Finds An ALICE To Send To WONDERLAND!!:
Mia Wasikowska will climb into Tim Burton's rabbit hole (wait, that doesn't sound right) as the title character in Burton & Disney's live-action, Digital 3-D adaptation of ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

Figured it was only a matter of time before someone cast her in something. She rocked the shit in HBO's series "In Treatment" (and should have gotten an Emmy nom, in my opinion), although the character is -- I'd imagine, anyway -- very different. It'll be interesting to see how she fares here.

Is this going to be the usual mishmashing together of 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland' and 'Through The Looking Glass' like the Disney film or will it actually adapt the original first novel properly? If it's the former, I couldn't give a shit who's directing and starring - I won't be seeing it.

Tim Burton did do an OK job of adapting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (except for the unnecessary revelations about Wonka's childhood). I think the Alice vibe is right up his alley.

Still wish this movie could've been American McGee's Alice, though,

That depends, I think Burton is calling the shots.

If he could he'd be Double Penetrating Helen with Johnny.

Helena's probably going to end up playing the Queen. Burton's got lovely vision but it's just wearing a bit thin for me. Depp appears in everything he does and he always uses Elfman for the music.

Looks like Helena is getting gangbanged

From AICN: Johnny Depp to host tea party in Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND!
hey folks, Harry here at fantastic fest....

just got a blackberry message from Mr. Beaks, who is currently at the studio's version of Disneyland, where they have just announced that Johnny Depp will be playing the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

Beaks will be back at this spot with more on this story. stay tuned.

From THR.com: Johnny Depp dons another hat for Burton
Will play Mad Hatter in live-action/CG 'Alice in Wonderland'

Johnny Depp will preside over the manic tea party in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" as the Mad Hatter.

Depp and Burton -- who first worked together in 1990's "Edward Scissorhands" and most recently collaborated on "Sweeney Todd" -- have formed one of the longest-running director-actor partnerships in modern Hollywood. And so when Burton committed to filming a new live-action/CG version of "Alice," Depp was touted as the most likely candidate to play the Mad Hatter -- after all, having worked with Burton on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," he's practiced in wearing a top hat.

Disney formally announced the casting Wednesday at a studio presentation.

Mia Wasikowska, the young Australian actress who scored in HBO's "In Treatment," had previously been cast as Alice.

Matt Lucas, who stars in the sketch comedy series "Little Britain USA," which debuts on HBO Sunday, is set to play the dual roles of Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

The Knave of Hearts was originally set to be played by Ewan McGregor, but I don't know the details of why the casting has been changed. Rickman's doing the Caterpillar's voice and Steven Fry is going to be the Cheshire Cat. In the script I read, the Knave of hearts is the just the evil Queen's man servant/crush. The only character design that's left me impressed so far is the Queen of Hearts. She looks like a badass anime character design of Queen Elizabeth gone horribly wrong and her head is literally shaped like a heart, which I think is brilliant. The movie is a very loose adaptation of Through the Looking Glass and is kind of set up as a more mature/loose sequel to the 1950s Disney movie. All the art I've seen so far is in line with the look and feel of Big Fish. It doesn't look like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and it doesn't look like typical Burton morbid goth either.

I am so happy to hear this. I hope its true. I am a bit tired of thinking I have already seen this movie when watching Burton's stuff. I do hope it has dark elements however. Dark doesn't have to mean Goth.

Mia Wasikowska as Alice... Hmmm, Dunno what to think of that. I am not fond of her. Nor do I dislike her. I have to just kinda hope she doesn't suck in this particular role. I am looking forward to seeing this.
