No surprise with the first award there, Waltz is perhaps a little too gracious

I watched The Blind Side last night, not as bad as I feared but I did find it borderline racist even if it was a true story. Bullock was quite good in it though

They've apparently been told to keep speeches under one minute.

Yet it seems like everyone in attendance has had their own video package intro made for them.

As great as Up is....I do wish Fantastic Mr Fox had won. I think it is the better film.

Also, Pete Doctor looks like the Banking Clan dude from the Star Wars prequels.

So glad they cut the live performances, I would have killed myself if I had to sit through one Randy Newman number, let alone two.

Oh right, I thought it was a bit harsh to disqualify the film. All's good and well then.

I don't think Precious is typical Oscar fare Tange, it looks like it on the surface when you see the trailer or clips but the film is pretty hardcore and very very good.

Oh yes, I don't doubt that it's very good (I want to see it but being abroad for the past 5 months has stopped me from watching anything recent) - what I mean is that the message of the film is something that would be popular among the Academy to encourage... am I wrong?

The slightly positive message at the end is Oscar stuff but the rest... Incest? Rape? Physical Abuse? Not really

That costume chick was a bitch, huh? "I already have two of these." I have a feeling she won't get a 4th. "I dedicate this to those who work as hard as me, but don't get the recognition. But I'm taking this home."

I like the appreciative ones better.

The message of the film, surely?, must be that all of the above are awful but real things and they happen to this Precious chick who then gets through to the other side...? Seems like modern Oscar stuff to me.

The list of those who passed seemed shorter and a lot less emotional this year.
I always feel bad for those who receive no applause. Did no one know them? Were they assholes?

Edit - Yeah Al... now that I think about it, I don't remember so many people not getting any applause at all. There usually seems to be a steady stream of polite applause with the occasional crescendo for popular actors/directors.
