I'll give Lucas his dues on one thing, he did make very different films as he said, even if 1,2 and 3 were unhinged lunacy.

I think people are trying to stir the pot on this one. Two different quotes, taken out of context, to make it sound like he's going on a tirade. You guys already took Star Wars away from George Lucas and got a fan-service movie in the deal, leave him alone for pete's sake.

yeah but the "white slavers" comment was a bit over the top, even if he meant it as a joke. then again, as TPM demonstrated, lucas has an unusual concept of "slavery": in lucas-land, apparently slavery involves living with your mom in your own house, building and owning your own droids and pod racers, and having plenty of free time to spend hanging out with your alien friends.

Brought in the new year by watching THE PHANTOM MENACE. I'm still pretty sure it's the best prequel by default, but Christ it reeks.

Enlightening video, thanks. At least all but one of those flying stormtroopers were real. But at the end of the day, more CG than we thought. Not TOO much though.

I forgot that I forgot to post in this thread. I've seen Episode 7 three times already, so I think it's fair to say I liked it. Certain elements of the plot are a little dumb, which you can't help but notice after the second viewing or so, but it's a blast nonetheless. I love the idea of a more diverse Star Wars universe, including BB-8, that lovable orange soccer ball, who's just as much of a main character as Finn or Rey. People have complained that large chunks of the story are recycled from the OT, and that's a fair point, but I also think it makes sense to sort of go back to the beginning and re-affirm what the series means for a new generation of fans. I think this is one of those rare cases where I'll like this movie better or worse depending on what comes next. If the whole rest of the trilogy is a vague re-hash of the first one then I'll be pretty disappointed. But if, from Episode 8 on, it goes off in a new direction and does its own thing, I would consider this a more than worthy introduction.
