Zach Snyder will direct the follow-up to his "Man of Steel" in 2015 with a tentative plan for "Flash" and "Justice League" movies to follow in 2016 and 2017, sources confirm to THR.

THR 8/19/2015:

Warner Bros.' Chilly Summer Puts Execs in the Hot Seat (Analysis)
Stephen Galloway wrote:While agreeing that the studio's 2015 box office has been disappointing (“If you look at any individual picture, you always want to do better”), Tsujihara says: "We knew this was going to be a transitional year. I went in front of Wall Street in October of last year and talked about our strategic plan around each of the businesses and the big franchises moving forward. And even then I knew that 2015 was going to be challenging, but we were setting up the slate for 2016, 2017 and beyond."

He says this summer would have looked better had Warners not pushed Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice from July to March 2016. "It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015," he says. "But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I’m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it’s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC.”

He considered the obvious comparisons between DC and its ambitious slate of superhero team-ups and standalones to the Marvel Cinematic Universe anchored by the Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Avengers films. The key difference between DC’s Shakespearean superheroes and Marvel’s, he says, is that DC’s are more epic.

“It’s a tricky process, setting up the DC universe, or Justice League,” Snyder said. “The credit goes to [Batman Begins director] Chris Nolan because he set the die for the DC Universe in a great way that I tried to emulate. I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that that’s appropriate for Batman and Superman because they’re the most mythological of our superheroes.”

Steven Spielberg’s recent doomsday prediction that “there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western” got many a fanboy’s spandex in a bunch. Ahead of our chat, in an interview earlier in the day, Snyder responded to Spielberg’s comments—and when I brought it up, he was flabbergasted that the Internet had already jumped all over the brewing debate. “That was this morning!” he exclaimed, before jovially admitting that Spielberg might be right while throwing some playful shade at the competition.

“It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we’re making,” he said. “I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week, "ANT-MAN" —not to be mean, but whatever. What is the next Blank-Man?”

Nah, at this point I'm past being offended or even really surprised when Snyder disses someone else in the press in order to contextualize his own greatness. I do like calling attention to it though.

That said, he is the devil and I will destroy him one day.

What makes it REALLY annoying is, if you believe the internet rumors, this scene is really a bat-dream.

Didn't hate it, but nothing got my juices flowing either. I'd say it started out bad for me with the Luthor bit, ended well with the Wonder Woman bit. So I'm somewhere in between I guess!

some random musings:

I wonder why they decided to continue with the "Bat voice" that Christian Bale did.

Batman really seems like a Struggling Background Artist in this one.

Not sure what Doomsday is, some Kryptonian genetic creation of Luthor's?

I dig the Bat-Ironman-armored-suit.

I like the looks of this Superman. I didn't like the first movie much though, but my distaste had nothing to do with the actor, more the plot and other stuff.

kinda the same. whiny-voiced Luthor doesn't work for me. Batman is gonna spend the whole film getting his ass handed to him, until some other hero with actual superpowers comes to save him. which kinda makes me think Batman can only really work in his own standalone universe, he feels powerful going up against the usual criminals and crazies in gotham, but put him next to superman or wonderwoman or aquaman even, and he feels impotent (maybe that voice is a form of compensation). unless you just put him in the ironbat suit all the time and turn him into their version of iron man, but that's pretty lame.

at least bale used his own voice for the bat-voice instead of a digital effect (affleckt?). guess this proves bale has bigger balls than ben.

i liked the wonder woman bit too. but why is she bringing a sword to an eye-laser fight?

why is it that no one ever made fun of Doomsday looking like a turtle in the comics or animated version? all they did was render him here the same as he has been depicted in those other mediums. it kills me that comic book geeks, and genre fans in general, have a separate, and imo dickish, set of rules when it comes to movies compared to how they judge print and animation. it is a culture of being a dick for being a dick's sake. "hey, look how cool I am for ragging on this big budget production. am i edgy or what?" fucking hipster mentality. if you are unable to create something original, entertaining, or relevant that people want to experience just do what you can to tear down someone else's creation.....

unless Brian Singer makes it, then it is a sloppy love fest :-P

Slightly drunk with a belly full of food in a reclining chair on shady veranda facing the beach with a nice breeze. That describes my level of comfort in skipping this film.

Man, that trailer is terrible. Whenever anybody was talking it was just awful. The rest of the time it was just your stock shots of superpeople making intense faces while striking power poses, and that stuff was all done fine. Whatever happened to that draft that was drifting around the internet where two different Batmen die within the first ten minutes of the movie and most of the other superheroes die in a nuclear explosion during the opening credits? They should've used that script.

Batman just looks all kinds of irrelevant in this conflict even though his name is there in the title on one side of the word 'versus'.

I thought Eisenberg could do something interesting with the Lex Luthor character, but he's decided to play Lex Luthor as Wes Anderson. Yeeesh.

That photo of Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor makes him look like he's about to don a headset and pace around the floor a la TED Talks.

"Picture a world where evil is streamlined. World domination integrated into your everyday lives - with just the touch of a button, the populace quivering at the sight of your stern grimace. Could it be because they hardly fleshed out Superman in 'Man of Steel', and noone's even seen Affleck's Rebootman in action so it's difficult to get interested in the film when the character are already on dangerous ground.

I think another Superman film would have been nice before this to establish the character. Man of Steel felt like it was rushed and I have no idea what Afflecks going to bring to the table so it's not exactly filling me with excitement.

Add to that, that it looks like they've shoehorned in there Wonder woman and Doomday and you get the feeling that they've thrown as much shit at the wall as possible with the hope that something sticks.

I purposefully left out Lex because I think he's the ideal candidate of counterpoint for Bats and Supers and hopefully will work well in the movie. Even though, from everything I've seen so far of Lex, I don't like it.
