I figured with the Godzilla movie hyping up, we could revisit Puff Daddy's request for a mutual orgasm from the soundtrack of the previous American GODZILLA remake.
I was always a big fan of Puffy's music videos. He invested a lot of money in them and their recognizeable hallmarks made them probably the most widely parodied music videos for the longest time. And this one might actually be his best/silliest. The song itself has some comic value, the lyrics are all over the place with Puffy expressing confused feelings of love/hate/frustration/dominance/betrayal at Godzilla. There's other funny stuff such as Puffy not only attempting rocker vocalizations and failing at the type of "Yeeeooooowwwwww!" thing Steven Tyler would do, but you also get an attempt at full on singing lyrics like "I cry tears of sorrow" in a lullaby voice.
The video is great. It starts with Puffy sleeping while sitting up wearing sunglasses at night indoors alone in his condo and dreaming about a time he had sex (sex was soooo popular in the 90s), only to be woken up by Godzilla who chucks a bus through Puffy's wall. Puffy then starts rapping to the people below on the street until a jet explosion blows him back into a lift. Here comes the best part of the video! Puffy's talent powers the lift to travel at high speeds up the shaft until it explodes out the building and Puffy disintigrates into doves, is reincarnated as Angel Puffy, sings the lullaby while falling through the sky CRANK style, and then lands in Times Square where he begins to face off in his rap battle against Godzilla.
I liked seeing Puffy strike his gangsta poses in Godzilla's face. That's bravado right there, kids. There's a part where Godzilla breathes fire and I wasn't completely sure if the accompanying shakey overexposed shot of Puffy was supposed to communicate that Puffy was being engulfed by flames and his talent also makes him flame retardant, but I'd like to think so.
Seeing this video as kid in post-war is what made me want to become a doctor (I didn't) and I give it my full endorsement.
