Ida - Lover's Prayer.

While Lover's Prayer will never match the awe inspiring sadcore beauty of I know About You or Ten Small Places. Hell even The Braille Night. Lover's Prayer is another quality record from from one of this intimate melancholic music.

so, partly inspired by Noel Murray's Popless Week One: Bye-eye-eye My Albums, where Noel isn't listening to ANY new albums and, in conjunction, is pruning his massive (30,000+!!!) itunes library - and, necessity being the milf-tastic Mrs. da Vinci, since my 'puter is so full-on packed to the gills with music that if it could burst it would do so in song - I'm on a massive mission of music reduction.

of course, to do so, one needs background music...currently getting the funk brought with the awesome power of The Poets of Rhythm. Hip-hop heads may know 'em as the backing band to Lyrics Born brilliant "welcome to dumpsville, population YOU" (underground hip-hop)classic "I Changed My Mind", but even their formerly damn near impossible to find debut "Practice What you Preach" {now re-issued through funk/soul revival label Daptone} is a flat out funk burner.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly Soundtrack.

specifically, the Dirtbombs scorching blues rock "Chains of Love", Tom Waits husky ballad "All the World is Green", Ultra Orange and Emmanuel's winsome French accented Brit Pop "Don't Kiss Me Goodbye" and the always welcome Joe Strummer (RIP) and the Mescaleros haunting "Ramshackle Day Parade".

really solid use of pop music emotional cues dropped by Schnabel throughout the film...

For some reason I've recently become hooked on two popular club songs...

Timbaland - The Way I Are
Rihanna - Umbrella

Can't explain it, but I'm totally digging these songs. Not usually the kind of music I'm into. This might have to do with my recent trip to Miami, but not quite sure...

M.I.A.'s remix EP for Paper Planes is pretty good. Lots of different versions of the song on it, but the standouts are by Adrock, DFA, and Afrikan Boye w/ Rye Rye. Good stuff. None of them are as as good as the original, though. The 'Pineapple Express' trailer put this song in my head, and there it's stayed for days now. Argh.

Someone sent me it earlier, it kicks all kinds of ass, i've never heard a talkbox used so well.
Sure, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, Frampton, Hendrix & a shit load of others have used them, but it's never sounded as good as this.

Polly Jean Harvey - Who the Fuck? Blasting ass track.

The Shins - Turn A Square - great lyrics "she showed up sharp as knife, wearing tennis shorts made of stripes" - Excelsior.

Suicide - Ghost Rider - 'nuff said

Fischerspooner - 15th Day - great cover

Eartha Kitt - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes - ahh, Eartha Kitt

The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #2 (Laika) - love this track.

Black Mountain - Bastards of Light - It’s like Ride and MBV fucked Sabbath's brains out, and the resulting incubator baby grew up to exact his revenge via music.

New Order - Blue Monday - TITIS!

Television - Torn Curtain

Thee Headcoats - Smile Now (I want to fuck Billy Childish).

White Flight - Superconductor - spacey rock jams for President in 08!

The Velvet Underground - Rock and Roll - um, the best? I love this fucking track. Shakes my ass.

Wire - I am The Fly - This is my personal anthem.

Gang of Four – At Home He’s A Tourist – also shakes my ass.

Okay, late '80's flashback question; how many dinks had the Einsturzende logo drawn on their Hot-Topic leather jackets, or worse still, tattooed on to their pale and oft times STD riddled bodies. Then, upon being asked what the logo/symbol was, they could not give you an answer? Thousands, in my experience. It was always a fun game to play.

Image

Same thing goes for Psychic TV logo. They all had it on their gear or bodies, but had no idea what the hell it was; they just saw some other late 80's punk with it, and decided that to be punk, that tattoo or image was a requisite.

I'd be careful, krunky, I'm getting some serious man-love here. Not only do you know Einsturzende (and can spell their name!) but you also like Psychic TV? Couple that with your pwnsome playlist (Suicide!), and I might have to ask Burl and Minstrel to add me to the Queer Forum that only they've got access to.

she sounds an awful lot like Melanie of "Brand New Key" fame...which is pretty cool 'cuz I love that track. Surprised that amongst the multiple covers on the album they didn't bust that one out. Monsieur Ward is the true star of that album though, brilliant production and arrangements, least for accommodating the somewhat limited vocal range of Zooey.

which show paisan? Her and Ward played more than one...

and I worship at the altar of a Zooey doppelgänger, dammit.
