Yes, there is a Top 100 singles thread

http://zone.aintitcool.com/viewtopic.php?t=3250

However, this is a SONGS-list...so if Jimmy-Crack-Corn is your deal, feel free to throw it down. Plus 100 is alot to ask for. List your personal favorites... your ultimate-mix. It's also a place for those one-hit-wonders, or "the only good song on the album" "I always liked that song on the radio" and guilty-pleasures of course.

Here's a few of mine

Love Comes Tumbling-U2
Down in Splendour-Staightjacket Fits
Timeless Melody-The La's
Friends of P-The Rentals
Galaxie-Blind Melon
Ugly Girl-Fleming and John

"Amphetamines" by Eve 6 is definitely one of those 'shoulda been a single' songs in my opinion.

Best song ever written is You Can't Always Get What You Want by The Rolling Stones.

I'm also partial to Where the Streets Have No Names by U2 and Losing My Religion by REM.

There are many others, but those are easily my top three.

Postby franzenpancake on Fri Jan 13, 2006 10:51 pm

Before you go off... yes, yes, I realize how long it must have taken to compile this and I know how sad that must make me. But few things get me as excited as my end of the year iPod playlist. Here's what I came up with for 2005.

2. Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple
3. Square One by Tom Petty
4. What I’m Looking For by Brendan Benson
5. Going Through the Motions by Aimee Mann
6. I Summon You by Spoon

. . . . .

A few these should count as cheating since some songs (such as The Strokes, Jenny Lewis, et al) weren't yet released in 2005.

Why would we go off on you for compiling a long list? All it says about you that matters is that you cared a lot about what you had to say. Plus, I fucking love long lists. Odds are higher that something I like'll be on there. ;-) Welcome to the Zone.

I like Zombie's 'good cross-section' idea, because that's the only way I can whittle things down. Even so, I'm missing a lot...

XTC - Dear God
The Replacements - Unsatisfied
Thelonious Monk - Well You Needn't
The Killers - Mr. Brightside
Blur - Song 2
Jonathan Edwards - Sometimes
Astrud Gilberto - Fly Me to The Moon
Pearl Jam - Black
Foo Fighters - M.I.A.
Swing Out Sister - Am I the Same Girl?
The Sundays - Love
The Cult - Love Removal Machine
Jellyfish - Brighter Day
The Police - Man In a Suitcase (live version)
Steve Earle - Someday
Lyle Lovett - I Love Everybody
Beastie Boys - Super Disco Breakin
NWA - Respect Yourself
LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out
Stroke 9 - Washin' and Wonderin'
The Clarks - Caroline
Paul Westerberg - Angels Walk
Frou Frou - Psychobabble
Nick Drake - Northern Sky
The Sugarcubes - Birthday
Public Image Limited - Rise
The Cars - Since You're Gone
The Replacements - Can't Hardly Wait

Alright...enough, this is the kind of thing where you could go on forever...

My favorite song, hmm? I usually alternate between "New Sensation" by Lou Reed (the Perfect Night in London live version) and "Temptation" by New Order. Many songs on Nick Drake's catalogue could fit here as well.

Oh I will, I love Henry Rollins. He's a two ton mountain of a man with arms like tree trunks, and he's the best part of any of the terrible movies he's in, plus the William Shatner CD duet thing, but his spoken word is just.. too much.

Henry Rollins fights the entire Wu Tang Clan, who wins?

Henry Rollins.

I have to admit, this song touches me in weird places as well. I listen to it and I feel like Toni Collette in Muriel's Wedding, which I think that I think is a good thing... which happens to scare me a little.
