Personal Jesus - Johnny Cash.
It's on the same album as Hurt
, worth a listen.
Klaxons - It's not over yet.
Im not a huge fan of them, but it's far better than the original (by some mid-90's rave group).
Also, i got Thank You
by Duran Duran
I was listening & thinking "This ain't so bad, they're having fun covering The Furious Five
(of Grand master Flash &...
fame), Sly & The family...
" & then Perfect Day
came on, "Oh, tha- What the fuck is this shit?"
I dunno what's worse, this version or the one BBC put out with about 40 people singing on it.
Fucking awful. I've never been a fan of Lou Reed
, but when he sang the song it had a fucking point. It wasn't easy to listen to, it sounded like pain, the Duran Duran
version is just overproduced elevator music.
Simon -"Hey Nick, the label's getting pissed off, they want the cover album done by the end of the week"
Nick - "Wanna make a bland cover of a chilling classic?"
Simon - "yeah, make sure you dial up the MIDI orchestra patch"
I wouldn't have minded if they'd put their own spin on it, a fucked up new romantic ballad about heroin could've worked (Just look at Bryan Ferry's
80's output for proof).
Sadly, Lou himself said it was "the best cover ever done of one of my songs". But he also liked the BBC version.
