Elitism is positing that your taste is equivalent to quality, you hate "Hamlet" does it make it "bad"? If you think so, you're one elite motherfucker.

Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice, It's Alright.

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

"So Cruel" by U2.

The best "I hate that I ever loved you, you crazy bitch" song ever.

Sadly, Bono has never written another song like it.

"I'll Be Watching You" is The Police--I guess it's not quite anti-love, but more "you'll be locking me up soon" kind of love.

Die My Darling was originally recorded by The Misfits, one of the greatest punk/horror bands of all time.

That song was B-Sided by Last Caress which goes a little somethin' like this:

I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesn’t matter much to me
As long as it’s dead

Well I got something to say
I raped your mother today
And it doesn’t matter much to me
As long as she spread

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

Go

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

Well, I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesn’t matter much to me
As long as it’s dead

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death
One last caress

One last caress, sweet death
One last caress, sweet death
They hate you because they wish they could have seen half the things you have...

TRUE TRUE!

"I'm only hanging on....to watch you go down.........My Love"

I know what you mean about there not being another U2 song quite like it. A distant cousin rather than brother/sister however, would be "Until The End of the World"...and its a William hurt flick too...I never saw it. A Fool of a Took I may be...but an honest Fool I remain :D

UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD

Haven`t seen you in quite a while
I was down the hold, just passing time
Last time we met it was a low-lit room
We were as close together as bride and groom
We ate the food, we drank the wine
Everybody having a good time
Except you
You were talking about the end of the world

I took the money, I spiked your drink
You miss too much these days if you stop to think
You led me on with those innocent eyes
And you know I love the element of surprise
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You, you were acting like it was the end of the world

In my dream I was drowning my sorrows
But my sorrows they learned to swim
Surrounding me, going down on me
Spilling over the brim
In waves of regret, waves of joy
I reached out for the one I tried to destroy
You, you said you`d wait until the end of the world
"I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades..."

One of my favorites has to be Shai Hulud's "Love is the Fall of Every Man"...

"I stand on the edge of destruction emotionally ruined
By the warmth I most desire
I will not fall prey to love of a human kind
For love is weakness
Love is the fall of every man
Take this heart you've claimed and as it numbs your hands
Know the flame is dead and will no longer burn
This body will never pain again
This mind knows no wound
Though I am of flesh this flesh will not consume me
As it has destroyed so many before
This body will never pain again
This mind knows no wound
The flame is dead left only with ashes of memories
That renew faith in hate and my faith in myself
Nothing can break me
This heart remains free from the burden of love
Yet this heart will be sustained
No hope
No compassion
I fill my heart with strength "
The whole world's wild at heart and weird on top.

This is a snakeskin jacket. And for me it's a symbol of my individuality, and my belief... in personal freedom.

Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

Has your radio ever spited you? Within seconds of getting in my car after my last break-up, I switched on the radio and "No Regrets" by the Walker Brothers came on. Perfect but also sad. That dude had one helluva tuneful voice tho...:

I know you leave, it's too long overdue
For far too long I've had nothin' new to show to you
Goodbye dry eyes, I watched your plane fade off west of the moon
And it felt so strange to walk away alone

There's no regrets, no tears goodbye
I don't want you back, we'd only cry again
Say goodbye again

The hours that were yours echo like empty rooms
The thoughts we used to share I now keep alone
I woke last night and spoke to you not thinking you were gone
And it felt so strange to lie awake alone

There's no regrets, no tears goodbye
I don't want you back, we'd only cry again
Say goodbye again

Our friends are trying to turn my nights to day
Strange faces on your place can't keep the ghost away
Now just beyond the darkest hour and just behind the dawn
It still feels so strange to lead my life alone

There's no regrets, no tears goodbye
I don't want you back, we'd only cry again
Say goodbye again

There's no regrets, no tears goodbye
I don't want you back, we'd only cry again
Say goodbye again

Love Stinks - the J. Geils Band

You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw - Spooky Tooth

From You to the Gutter Ain't Up - Have no idea who wrote it, but its a groovy title

Pimp - The Tubes

Til Death - Gone Blind

( the above is a bit of a local thing - goes like this:)

I can't belive that you want it this way,
but I don't know...I don't know.
I keep waiting for your face to change
but it don't show...it don't show.

And now you ask me "Are you still here?"
Why should I believe in what you say?
Are you shaking with anger or fear?
If I call your bluff will you ask me to stay?

Now you're telling me I ain't been true,
well that's a lie, just a lie.
You need excuses and any will do
to say goodbye...say goodbye.

You'll never get away from me,
although you think you have to try.
Oh, you know that I'll come after you;
you're mine until the day that you die...

So I come home & find you are gone.
Well, that's alright. That's alright.
I'll grab my keys & the search will on,
I'll start to tonight....start tonight.

You'd better cover up your tracks
cause I'll be running right behind.
I've got some Jack & I've got my axe,
but I haven't got much left of my mind....

I find your trail in this sleazy hotel
your time has come...yes, it's come.
The gunshots rang out just like a church bell -
I thought you'd run...thought you'd run.

You dropped me from behind, you slut.
I never got the chance to tell;
one of these days your time will be up
and I'll be waiting for you in hell....

From a lyric point of view, I think one could easily call Til Death an anti-love song.

Wow. I can be accused of darkness fairly regularly (and accurately)...but I had no idea so many "anti-love" songs involve actually butchering, maiming or downright murdering the ex.

I'm more of a "Stare-mournfully-out-at-a-bleak-seascape-and-fai l-to-trust-anyone-for-the-next-6-months" kinda guy.

Na not really. You are just intuned enough to know that she aint worth going to jail for.

I fit into the same catagory as you. Thankfully I've been married for over 10 years and don't have to deal with that anymore.

The Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love With Someone You Shouldn't Have/Orgasm Addict. What can be more Anti-Love than the song Orgasm Addict, which is about Howard Devoto's wanking addiction.

Another Smiths track - Bigmouth Strikes Again. That sarcy git Morrissey really knew how to woo the ladies ("Sweetness, I was only joking when I said by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed").

Led Zeppelin (cover of Sonny Boy Williamson???) - I Should Have Quit You.

Magazine - Permafrost. Never heard a better example of a fucked-up love/rape.

The Kinks - Lola. This'll never work, because Lola is a muscular drag-queen and Ray Davies is a straight poet laureate/mod. Although I've heard rumours the guy was in to that kind of thing...

Yeah, that is a great song too. It's supposed to be Judas to Jesus, but all that sexual imagery sends it off into the statosphere of anti-love songs.
Basically, all of Achtung Baby is an anti-love song come to think of it. "Love is Blindness" is my other favorite. It's so hypnotic and sexy, and then it hits the end "Take the money, honey, love is blindness." Oh, so...I'm a whore, terrific, thanks Bono!

That's my favorite line from So Cruel, that and the end. "To stay with you I’d be a fool...Sweetheart, you’re so cruel." It just doesn't get any more cutting than that.

yes, mike patton
while many of the lyrics to his songs deal with scat and other morally questionable fair, (especially the earlier stuff) by no means was this what he was, or is all about.

in addition, there are tomes of legends and tales of patton's fabled on-stage self debaucherizing. but most of them are bullshit. mr. bungle werent even human. they were some kind of super intelligent super race of alien super beings from another planet. and much like the music of the krell, their work will still be ahead of its time in many thousands of years.

ETA:... who absolutely loathed love, and most of thier songs are...um.. anti love rants.... in some way of thinking.

The best "I hate that I ever loved you, you crazy bitch" song ever.

Sadly, Bono has never written another song like it.

I'd never heard that before today...the Judas/Jesus metaphor. Wow, the whole song takes on a new meaning then. AH! Playing the tart in the Garden. Right...I get it. D'oh!

Nah man..don't read me wrong...I liked the dude in FAITH NO MORE. And the stories of him, Big Sick Ugly Jim Martin and the final days of that band make for Rock Legends....

Man, Wife, the Latter - Desparacedios

Pretty much explains it all.

Indubitably my good man! What better way to celebrate a score (and by that I mean hash and not weed like you lucky bastards in the UK and US are rolling in) than by watching Repo Man and trying to listen to Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and post at the same time. I've got to stop living like this...

some good one's, but damn you foolz for not yet mentioning...

You're Breaking My Heart, So Fuck You - Harry Nilsson

best. Antilove. Song. EVAR!!!

Chewing Gum - Annie - "uh-oh, oh-no, you've got it all wrong, you think you're choclate but you're chewing gum". Gotta love poppy diss tracks.

Where Did Our Love Go? & You Just Keep Me Hanging On- Diana Ross and the Supremes

My Michelle - Guns 'N Roses - "You're Daddy works in porno, now that mommy's not around, she used to love her heroin, but now she's underground..." Feel the (anti)love!

Bandages - Hot, Hot, Heat

Serves You Right to Suffer - John Lee Hooker for the mellow, live J. Geils band for the ferocity...

Can't Stand Me Now - The Libertines

Sangre de Stephanie - Lifter-Puller - Craig Finn is the best songwriter in America. Criminally underappreciated Lifter-Puller's best song...

Women's Prison - Loretta Lynn

Broke - Modest Mouse

Nothing Came Out - The Moldy Peaches

These Boots are Made For Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra - 'Nuff said.

Poison - New Edition

Steppin' Out on Me - Paul Revere and the Raiders

Wave of Mutilation (UK Surfer Mix) - The Pixies

Rid of Me - PJ Harvey

Sour Times - Portishead - We've all felt this, so damn heartbreaking, yet I've bumped uglies repeatedly to this ditty...strange, ain't it?

Bang the Drum - Railroad Jerk - 'Nother underappreciated indie band. "Don't say you need me when you're gettin' rid of me/ you know what I know, I saw you with him so..."

House of Jealous Lovers - The Rapture

Hit the Road Jack - Ray Charles

Remember (Walking in the Sand) - The Shangri-La's

Heart Factory - Sleater-Kinney - "Tie me up, I'm not just made of parts/ you can break right through, this box you put me into..." My fave on this list.

Milkshake 'N Honey - Sleater-Kinney - "Took my heart, my BEST JEANS, and left me with payin' the rent..."

The Tears of A Clown & Tracks of My Tears - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles

The Witch - The Sonics

Dry Your Eyes - The Streets - I bawled like a 'lil bitch first time I heard this. Fuck you.

Voices Carry - 'Til Tuesday

Death Letter (Live) - White Stripes - I know it's a cover, but when I saw the peppermint duo way back when and they lit into this, I was in love with them.

Even if You Don't - Ween

I am Trying to Break Your Heart - Wilco

Fuck You Lucy - Atmosphere - Emo rap at it's best.
