Thank you, Zoners, for the kindness, tolerance, and enlightenment you've shared with me. It may not have been deserved, but it was greatly appreciated nonetheless. Soupy twist.

The Todd has to throw his HIGH-FIVE into the ring and say that I think Lady Gaga's The Fame and The Fame Monster are two of the best albums I've listen to in a long time. And by "listen to", The Todd means "usually, in my car. Alone. With the windows up and the volume cranked".

I'm pretty addicted to Go-Go music in all its incarnations from across the world (in France it was called Yé-yé, in Japan "group sound," Germany "schlager" and so on). I just love that space lounge music backing and the young female singers' I'm-gonna-die-if-I-don't-finish-this-song-in-two-and-a-half-minutes deliveries. It's what pop's all about. But I'd never, ever in my life play this stuff in the presence of other living people.

Lady Gaga is that kind of horible brain wash music were I first think ugh WTF?, but after TV and Radio played it for 325782 times it doesn't sound bad anymore.

On a different note: Schlager? SCHLAGER???

I too like Lady Gaga, but I haven't had the balls to buy any of her albums (I thought she only had the one)...

I think she's a very interesting pop star, she seems to get a lot of flak because of her weirdness, maybe people are right in saying she is just being weird for weirdness sake. Obviously she has strange tastes, and her image is very calculated, but it's still pretty cool I think and still reflective of her personality. I think she's taking advantage of that aspect of her personality and exploiting it for use in her image rather than just "pretending" to be weird.

Plus her tunes are catchy as fuck.

Pacino, you can pick up the deluxe edition of The Fame Monster (for your niece/sister/mother/gf/fill-in-the-blank) and it's a 2-disc set with both her first album (The Fame) and her second album (The Fame Monster).

The Todd happens to agree with Peven. The Fame is one of the few albums I can put on and listen to the whole thing straight through without skipping a track.

Oh, and The Todd thinks Lady Gaga is hot as shit too.

I don't think there's any shame in finding Lady Gaga kinda interesting - she has built a persona of artifice and intrigue, and although she is still well ensconced musically in the realm in mainstream pop, she certainly a lot more interesting than any of the bimbos stagering around on stage for the last decade like Britney/Cristina/Pink etc. I imagine that I came to listen to her music from a different route to most (as I just don't listen to much radio, and no commerical radio at all) but after seeing both Cartman in Southpark and Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation both take a stab at 'Pokerface', and then seeing the recently reformed Faith No More pull off a pretty hot live cover of the same track on a bootleg video recently, I've taken a listen to her album and caught a few of her media appearances, particualrly on SNL. She is very androgynous and extremely pretentious, in a way we havent seen from a pop star since Bowie and Glam Rock in the 70's. I only hope she doesn't bland out but continues to get stranger.

Me too with the radio thing. I caught her AMA performance and I was like wow... different. Then of course my brother had all of her albums... he is a techno terd, I mean nerd. I like her new song Bad Romance and her videos are very theatrical in a way that I hadn't seen in a while. I'm a chick though so I guess it is ok that I like her but I typically don't like that sort of thing. I also didn't realize that Poker Face was hers until the South Park episode which was a really funny part.

The thing is that most of her songs aren't really artfully weird/weirdly pretentious or interesting in the way you guys are talking about. In fact while I do think she puts on a good show and her freakiness is kind of refreshing in today's pop scene, it also feels a little bit like sleight-of-hand to me, to disguise the fact that, musically, there's not a whole lot going on (even David Bowie's androgyny extended to his lyrics; the closest thing Lady GaGa's got is a song about a disco stick).

Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge her the popularity she's enjoying right now, but even though she wears some pretty entertaining costumes, the only song of hers I actually like is Just Dance. The rest, I can take or leave.

Reminds me of being a kid again, i still like all that stuff, dunno if i'm ashamed of it though.
When i was a young, the charts were what I'd rely on for new music, then, as a teenager i got really into metal & industrial stuff, after that i got really into 80's stuff like New Order, that took me forwards to house music, eurodance & all the rest, now i just like what i like.

So I'm sitting in a proper man's pub lat night with Papa, dunno what he was doing there though. Anyways this song came on and I started bopping my head side to side, I do like this song so much and I want the whole wold to know about it, TAYLOR SWIFT, DARNIT!!!

Then someone came up to my bopping head and blockheaded it through the wall 'cos of it. Oh, that was Lugz's girlfriend hitting me around the house party that happened later on. That's a true story.

I also like the other chick in the song. Look a bit like Stoya, don't you think, JL?
