Bond Theme Music (Now w/ 007% less Jazz)

Postby sleepflower on Sun Apr 23, 2006 8:06 pm

Now, we had a bit of a chat on this, but im sticking with the great carly simon track, nobody does it better, from the spy who loved me. Although the radiohead cover is also startlingly amazing.

The garbage one and moby doing the theme tune is ok also I guess.

I personally prefer the ones from the sixties; "Goldfinger", "You Only Live Twice", "From Russia With Love"...

Oh, and I like "Moonraker." Hate the film, love the song.

It still pisses me off that the entire reason they won't let John Barry back to do the music is that they won't let him write the title song. He's JOHN FUCKING BARRY!!! He IS Bond music! They couldn't even swallow their pride for "Die Another Day", the big Bond fangasm movie, the bastards.
This comment is in no way meant to insist your opinion is wrong or be considered an edict, solely this poster's opinion. That said, you are still a fool and will kneel before me in supplication.

I liked Goldeneye and Live and Let Die.

But the best Bond music is clearly the theme. Hearing that mofo kick into high gear during an action scene is goosebump-inducing material.

I rememebr seeing him (moby) play it live on TV at glastonbury. He said the film was shit though.

He also covered creep by radiohead, possibly why they started to play it again, to stop him!

He said he did it cos they refused to play the song.

BTW, I seem to mention the oxford band a lot in here, they're not even my favourite band.

On a side note, GNR did a really good cover for Live and let Die.

Gotta be Monty Norman's Bond theme. Of the songs, "For Your Eyes Only," "Nobody Does it Better" and "Goldfinger" are essentials. But nothing beats

I 2nd that, it has the feel of the movies, and the lyrics while not specific to the movie capture Bond's spirit.

Who Should Do the Next Bond Theme?

Postby rusmeister on Wed Nov 05, 2008 10:16 am

After seeing QofS the other day I have been thinking about who should do the next Bond theme and after pondering it quite a bit I would suggest Goldfrapp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldfrapp

For me Alison Goldfrapp has a voice that can be both haunting and uplifting and when coupled with the sound that Goldfrapp produces I think could be the perfect blend for a Bond theme tune.

Any thoughts?

I find it a real shame Amy Winehouse couldn't sober up enough to do the Quantum theme, and that probably means they won't hire her again. I figured when Winehouse bottomed out they'd replace her with Duffy, since she's basically Winehouse Lite, but then they went with Jack White and A. Keys and I can't really say I enjoyed the result.

I guess after Amy Winehouse my next pick would be Bjork. Shivaree could probably do a good job. I liked that song from the Kill Bill soundtrack, it had a kinda Bondy sound to it.

As far as male artist go, I also wouldn't mind Gnarls Barkley.

I generally prefer that oldschool jazzy sound for Bond themes and don't really like the attempts at rock songs like You Know My Name or The Living Daylights. I guess Live and Let Die was an okay song, but it still didn't fit. The World is Not Enough by Garbage was by far my favorite of the modern themes.

which one did faux british Madonna do? That was my least favorite, I didn't mind Garbage's version

although thinking about it the one from A view To a Kill may have been the least memorable

There's a pretty good existing 'Bond themes' thread about here somewheres - perhaps this could join it as the discussion will naturally flow back to the general topic - just a suggestion...

on topic, I gotta agree with Spandau, go a jazzy with a modern sound

and this may sound out in left field, I actually kind of wonder what someone like Outkast (or just Andre 3000) or Mos Def could do with a Bond soundtrack

But if this a discussion for future themes, I think it can exist alongside the best bond music thread.
