BORE NOW GO!!!

Yes, yes, yes, last night got to see one of my favorite bands of all times
again -- the magical, incomparable BOREDOMS -- at the Starlite Ballroom
in Philly; one, and the last, of only 6, count 'em, 6 shows in the US; a
micro-tour which skipped over NYC entirely! Ha ha! Take that, jerks!

Now, for hose of you who don't know the BOREDOMS, run immediately to
your local record shoppe and buy some. They are, hands down, the
most consistentily inventive and free-art psychotic bands ever. Like
CAPTAIN BEEFHEART mixed with STOCKHAUSEN mixed with SUN RA
mixed with SILVER APPLES mixed olde skool 70s anime on acid.

They're new lineup is really interesting; very, very much a modern
primative sun-worshipping affair sounding like an Obon festival on
mushrooms, the BOREDOMS are now a 4 piece -- 3 drummers (Yoshimi
and two other guys) and eYe Yamataka on voice, chants, screams, and
these incredibly cool synths, samplers, and bizarro magical light
movement body synths with which he literally conducted the proceedings
like a buddhist shaman of ancient Nihon, passing through Edo on his way
to enlightenment.

The tour is over now, I think, so, unless you caught one of these dates,
you're out of luck. Suffice it to say I feel just a little bit happier today;
lifted towards the sun and buddhahood by my noisey friends to the east:
the BOREDOMS...

05-20 Camber, England - Camber Sands Holiday Centre (All Tomorrow's
Parties)
05-22 Berlin, Germany - Maria am Ostbahnhof
05-26 Dublin, Ireland - Temple Bar Music Centre
05-29 London, England - Shepherds Bush Empire
06-01 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera Festival
06-24 Chicago, IL - Intonation Music Festival
06-25 St. Paul, MN - Turf Club
06-27 Columbus, OH - Wexner Center
06-28 Cleveland Heights, OH - Grog Shop
06-30 Philadelphia, PA - Starlight Ballroom

I'm surprised at that myself. I figured a West Coast date is a gimme;
especailly for Japanese bands.

Dude, hopefully they will extend it or something; they're really keyed
into something else with this whole new percussion-noise-chanting thing
they've been doing recently. It was really supercool.

yeah, i would love to see them. they are still on my "havent seen em yet" list. i was denied back at lollapalooza 94, when they replaced the bordoms with the much less talented green day *wretch*. and even all of those john zorn projects that yamataka-san plays with sometimes are all east coast only. you know sometimes, for being sort of the entertainment capital of the world, southern california can be really devoid of any substance.

Heres something weird -- they are now officially called "Voordoms"?
With the double "o" actually suposed to be an infinity sign???

News to me. They were billed last night as BOREDOMS.

Check it out; a good article that articulates the latest incarnation well:

the jerks took no more of your gruff, billy goat, 'cuz They played Webster Hall in NYC.

You would think they would hit SF, but I haven't seen a listing yet .

when you're over everything, there's always Boredoms...

Super Roots EP series, 1, 3 & 5, re-released (or maybe just released, 'dunno if any of 'em was available, certainly not readily available) by Vice.

Hearken thee, to "Jungle Taitei".

and that was relatively straight foward for a Boredoms track...

i hope they hit Golden Gate Park for 08/08/08, if only to show the dirty, nostalgic for a time they can never recapture faux-hippies in SF how to REALLY perform a drum circle...
