I do this all the time....
I know I'm not the only one...

Phoebe from Friends did it to Elton John's "Tiny Dancer"

She sang "Hold me close I'm Tony Danza"...

And here is my favorite (I never knew what a pop top was until I moved to the south)

Jimmy Buffett-Margaritaville....

Correct lyrics...."I blew out my flip flop, Stepped on a pop top"

My lyrics... "I blew out my flip flop, stepped on a pop tart"... lol

So....
What do you got???

Not quite the same thing, but a few friends and I in highschool ( i somehow found myself in a posh-ish grammar school with blazers and boardring houses), and occasionally when we would sing hymns, we would all sort of dread/hope that we would get this particular hymn...

Shine, Jesus, Shine

Essentialy, what we did, was to will ourselves into hearing "shite" or "shiting" instead of "light" or "lighting".

Which sounds innocent enough, but when there's a room with several hundred people in it, including your friends, prefects, teachers and so on, continuing to sing it with gusto, and it is inescapable from your ears, it took on an almost literal PAMP level of LASH...

Not least because of the lyrical connotations...

Lord the light of Your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Set us free by the truth
You now bring us Jesus, Light of the world
Shine upon us Shine on me Shine on me Shine
Jesus, shine Blaze, Spirit, blaze, Set our hearts on fire
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Flow, river, flow
Send forth Your Word, Lord
And let there be light Lord,
I come into Your awesome presence
From the shadows into Your radiance
By the blood I may enter Your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me Shine, Jesus, shine Shine on me
Fill this land with the Father's glory Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Fill this land with the Father's glory Shine, Jesus, shine
Send forth Your Word, Lord And let there be light Flow, river, flow
Blaze, Spirit, blaze,
Set our hearts on fire
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your Word, Lord And let there be light

From Manfred Mann's version of "Blinded By The Light" come two of my favorite misheard lyrics:

"Blinded by the light,
Wrapped up like a douche
Another rumor in the night."

and

"Little early birdie
Gave my anus curly-whirly
And asked me if I needed a ride"

The real lyric as written by Bruce Springsteen was "ripped up like a deuce," as in, a Deuce Coupe, like a really ripped, cool car. So Manfred Mann misheard the damn thing too!

The sad thing is that I really don't know the real lyrics to the "Little early birdy" part.

Just knowing that an entire generation has grown up thinking (and singing aloud) that a douche can be either wrapped or revved up brings a smile to my face!

Yes! Its clearly "wrapped up like a douche" as everyone knows it has always been. That's because its a song about Massengil packaging and how it can blind you if it catches the fluorescent drug store lighting just right.

Humor columnist Dave Barry misheard the Beach Boys' "Help Me Rhonda" thus:

I found that hilarious!

Later, comma, in the same song ( Tiny Dancer)

"Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer.
Count the hairlips on the highway......"

Combined with the earlier cockup, one gets:

"Hold me closer, Tony Danza.
Count the hairlips on the highway...."

That Bernie Taupin....

One misheard lyric I fondly remember as a kid:

"Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on"

I heard it as:

"Hang on Snoopy, Snoopy hang on"

My hearing improved later on, unfortunately. Would've been a good song with those lyrics

The Stone Roses, first track off of their self titled, one of the best albums of the 80's debut.

here's what I heard...

"I wanna be a dord."

I kept thinking what the fuck is a dord?
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

Funny, my best friend in high school would be like...

"Dirty Deeds in the jungle jeep." and I'd say, "What the hell are you saying?"

And here's one I heard my buddy say last night. It's on the Metallica cover of "Die, Die My Darling."

The actual lyric is "Don't cry to me, oh baby." and my buddy was saying "Don't cry tomato, baby."

The fact that that line is repeated like 20 times in the song had me laughing for like 5 minutes straight.

Im reading all these laughing my ass off!

I remember when Beverly Hills Cop came out and I heard "Neutron Dance" me and my friends would sing it and say "I'm just burnin doin the NEW TIME DANCE!"

Til Tuesday's Voices Carry became "Hush Hush Keep It Down Now, THIS IS SCARY"

The Beastie Boys' So Whatcha Want, I always thought Mike D sang: "I'm The Long Leaner Victor The Cleaner I'm The Illest Motherfucker Since VINCENT GARDENIA"

The official term for these is "mondegreens", by the way.

My favorite? Pearl Jam. Not any particular song, it's just Eddie Vedder can't enunciate. I thought the chorus to "Jeremy" was "Sara Lee Smoked Ham" for YEARS.

I always hear "wrapped up like a douche"

I therefore conclude the song is about Massengill packaging.

In the last verse of Stairway to Heaven, I used to hear "There's a wino down the road" when Plant was actually singing "And as we wind down the road".

It took listening to it alongside that deleted scene in Almost Famous [where they all sit down in the living room listening to it in its entirety] to finally figure out I was mishearing it.

I still prefer my version, though.

Another one I listened to just now is Tilt by Scott Walker. I guess the whole point of that album is that the words and vocals are supposed to add to the eerie atmosphere...but still, Scott's got some strange as hell enunciation in this one. There's one line in the song Manhattan, in which he is supposedly saying "Chief of Police", but I'd swear on my grandma's grave that he's actually singing "She fucks police".

So I was listening to that Chumbawumba song... I think it's called Tubthumping (?) on the radio. Is the female voice singing "Pissing the night away?"

Considering the theme of the song, it wouldn't be inappropriate!

When I was 5, I thought David Lee Roth was saying "Maxwell Jump" instead of "Might as well Jump!" Feels nice to finally get this off my chest.

Yes, as in "getting pissed" from all those whiskey drinks, vodka drinks, lager drinks and cider drinks.
